"he had a similar obsession with felaini. It's the main reason he bought ward prowse, and I've no doubt if carroll hasn't become injury prone he would have continued being the number nine. set piece goals are orgasmic to him"

"Interesting comments on Soucek. The bloke is a complete enigma. He has a very limited skillset, which means that depending on what you're looking for, he can be rated as either very good or very poor. Starting with the positives, he does a lot of valuable work in defence, particularly in the air. In midfield I can't see anything positive at all so will return to this in the negatives. Up front, we all know what he can do, especially with JWP providing the assists. I noticed that someone else mentioned that it's almost tempting to play him as a striker. Yes, he has the traits of a target man and is undoubtedly a decent finisher, but has no pace whatsoever, so forget that idea. So, the negatives. Rossall has pointed out, as many others have done before, that his stats in terms of passes completed and general contribution to the game, are absolutely atrocious. As Fauxstralian said, he's about as much use as a cone. I'm pretty sure I have observed that it's not just that he doesn't get himself into space to receive the ball, but when he does, his teammates tend to avoid passing to him if they've got another option on, for obvious reasons - they know he's likely to lose the ball. Moyes must have some level of awareness of his limitations, so I can understand the dilemma he is in. There is always the chance that he will pop up with a goal, and yes, he could have had a hat trick yesterday. The thing is, if we had a progressive manager like Pep, Poch, De Zerbi or the bloke at Spurs, there's no way he would be playing. But the way Moyes plays and consequently our inability to fashion many chances from open play, Soucek, for all his faults, has an important role to play. So, basically if Moyes goes, Soucek goes."

"Perfect timing for sullivan to make the change. Let moyes go with a positive result and bring the new guy in during the international break. It would be outrageous for moyes to be involved in any way with the January transfer window, get on with it!!"

The hatred of Soucek on here is utterly embarrassing. Some of you should take a long hard look at yourselves.

"I'm obviously in the minority who enjoyed that game. Obviously would have rather it had been more comfortable but for Cooper to say 'we woz robbed' is ridiculous... what did they lead for, 2 mins? Don't think he had the greatest game and by all accounts he is still getting back to his best after a knock but I'd love to see us get Awoniyi in January (or next summer), a real handful with plenty of pace."

"The 2 Czech boys are our biggest weakness in terms of technique and pace for the positions they play. I have been vocal to the point of obsession about Soucek, who is much more of an issue than Coufal btw, it because I want to pick on a player, it’s just an analysis of what he contributes. His effort and Coufals and their attitude are amongst the best in the team but they are not quality Premiership footballers. Well Soucek isn’t. He gets the odd and valuable goal but the trade off is enormous. It is like being a man down in midfield at times. His pressing is so slow it’s inconsequential. In the low block, counter attack model of play ( Moyesball) he can operate more effectively as the play gets squeezed into our half of the pitch and hence less space. But you cannot be playing a bloke who consistently gets less than 20 touches of the ball a game ( often less ) and has passing accuracy stats in the lowest quartile for the league. Of those 20 touches I counted 5 misplaced or passes to no one that surrendered possession. The point here is that if we had a much better quality footballer with mobility, strength and technique in midfield we would have the ability to keep possession far better. That in turn suggests we would control games against lesser opposition ( not the rich 5 ) and thus score more and be less reliant on someone aerially in our penalty area? Of course, it means getting an actual quality striker, and having a coach who knows how to play in possession and play thru the press etc. But even under Moyes having a player that can be in midfield and contribute to the passing and move makes space and means more passing options and better retention of the football. We can then play Paqueta in his correct position. Although the need for a proper wide left option is, along with a central striker, a glaring indictment of Moyes squad building and management. Cornet is supposedly a player that plays out on the left ? His career at West Ham, like Downes, is over before it got started. Great to get 3 points but nothing has changed and our league form will not improve Imo while Moyes is at the helm and he opts for players like Soucek who is a throwback to the more primitive version of the game we watch 25 - 50 years ago. Imho of course :-)"

"And on Soucek.... Bloke is robbing a living, its like playing with 10 men with him on the pitch. When we have the ball, (which frankly is what I care about far more than him being able to head away corners) he just wanders up front, stands next to one or two of their players and just jogs across the pitch. He NEVER..... and i mean NEVER comes looking to get the ball from JWP or Alvarez and link the play or receive on the half turn. Pointed it out to my mate yday then just watched him for a few mins.... could not believe what I was seeing. A premier league CM in a top half side actively not looking to get on the ball. 18 passes yday, for reference JWP did 70 and Alvarez think 50+ and he got subbed. Areola made 18!!! Our CM/CAM made the same amount of passes as our goalkeeper. The bit where he went to pass to his mate Coufal and passed it off the pitch summed him up. Or the pretty easy chance where he missed and hit the bar. Fair play he got the goal at the death, but we can't carry on playing with 10 each week and expect to get anywhere in this league"

"We got the points but it wasn't a lot of fun was it? I wonder how many would have picked Soucek? How many would have played him near Bowen to win headers and get back to defend headers as well? How many would have taken him off and left Alvarez? So Soucek scored the winner and could have scored 2 more. I wouldn't have started him but then that's why Moyes gets £5m a year I suppose... What it showed to me is that Moyes sees the tactical side of the game on a very simple, basic level. He moves Paqueta out to left wing to accommodate a 6'5"" bean pole that can't pass but works very hard doing little except closing down, headed clearances and surprise goals. We will never be a PL force while that is the level the manager works at"

"Good result, nice to get a win going into the int break Thought it was better than some of the recent games but there's still large parts of the game where you are frustrated as fuck watching it First half got the early goal then had to be more ruthless to get 2 ahead, didnt deserve to be 1-1 at HT. Then 2nd half good reaction to get the win from a goal behind but same as the other night the only threat we have really is from their mistakes or set pieces. Or hitting teams on the counter. Teams sit in and are organised we are clueless. Credit to JWP, his deliveries again were outstanding. But from open play etc we are just so boring and flat, Kudus and Bowen give it a go but theres no coaching or styles of play when we go forward at all. No penetration through the middle of the park ever. Its just very boring and one dimensional. We are so obsessed with keeping the ball, not realising that most of the time when they keep it and go backwards it means losing it moments later when we just do a shit punt forward. Try and play through the thirds and attack teams. Especially the likes of Forest at home. Aguerd hit some cracking crossfield balls, but no one in the side every looks to ping it left to Emerson who plays higher than Coufal. Alvarez and Soucek dont get on the ball enough. Kudus is brilliant at taking the ball in tight and riding tackles....beating a man......but the final ball/decision isn't quite there yet. He also doesnt seem to have worked much of an understanding with Coufal. Still plenty to work on, we're still a long way from the likes of Villa and dare i say it an on song Spurs side"

"Turgid bunch of shit, Soucek and Moyes need putting down - pair of useless cunts. Fuck the result I really don’t care anymore. Nothings changed or changing we just got lucky enough to play against a side even worse than us. Best squad we’ve ever had and that’s the performance we muster. What a waste of time and money traipsing over there to watch that shit."

I think Alvarez is carrying a knock. Looked uncomfortable when he came off on Thursday and again yesterday. Hope he's not heading off with Mexico

"you really are one of the thickest cunts to ever post on here. you've admitted in the past you don't watch the games, yet you blindly back that jock dinosaur. if I wanted us to lose, I'd be happy for him to continue for the next ten years. we're winning games despite his shit tactics. soucek's one of the nicest blokes on the planet, but it's like playing with ten men when he starts games, so criticising someone doesn't mean I hate them you braindead wanker"

"Thought the first half was painfully dull; scored early and then just sat and did nothing. Second half was an enjoyable watch, and JWP & Bowen were excellent when we needed them to be. Their goal celebrations for their second were absolutely absurd, you'd have thought they scored a last minute winner in a champions league final the way they carried on."

The usual suspects triggered. Love it. They hate Soucek and they hate Moyes yet still the pair of them keep delivering. It’s a beautiful thing to witness.

"Strange one with Alvarez, I do think he has pedigree, but I think in today's game a DM needs to offer more than just mop up, they have to contribute moving forward too. In the more winnable games you could argue that we could easily leave him out, our creativity through the middle is almost non existent. JWP's deliveries yesterday were world class, but it's depressing that is our best hope of scoring, Moyes was beaming afterwards after scoring two goals from corners."
