"No not him, the Nottingham Panthers Hockey player. The police have arrested someone for suspicion of manslaughter. I thought it was a freak accident and I know of at least one other time it happened in the NHL, so it will be interested to see what unfolds?"

"Hark at all the ""experts"" Well I lived in Minnesota for 20 years home of the original HockeyTown moniker, Warroad and I am NOT an expert despite seeing quite a few hockey games by the Minnesota North Stars of the NHL and Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team, I have seen a few high sticks but I don't think I have ever seen a high leg as in the video depicted. It does look deliberate. In any case I think the only expert on here is ironsofcanada wherever he is now?"

"Yes, if it’s a dangerous sport. As it is down to the players to limit the danger where possible. This was possible."

"As said, no chance, or extremely unlikely, he thought to himself I'm going to try to kill this bloke, but if he set out to intentionally harm him (likely) and due to that he subsequently died, then anywhere away from the field of sport it would be manslaughter. The big debate here I suppose will be should we be going down that path on the field of play?"

I play ice hockey. I also know everything about everything. He lashed out on purpose. He didn’t mean to cut his throat. He will be found not guilty.

"It was deliberate violent behavior, and highly likely manslaughter."

"I've seen the video and there's no way it's accidental. His leg is higher than his head. I can't imagine he thought I'm going to kill him here, but he definitely put his leg up to do some damage."

"I've been to over two Romford Raiders games AND a Toronto Maple Leafs game, so I'm probably the foremost expert on WHO. When I saw the video on Twitter it did look a little unnatural, but sometimes a spectacular fall can look odd so I tried not to judge. However, there were quite a lot of people on Twitter who were saying that it was deliberate as people just don't fall that way in ice hockey."

"How could you think it's a freak accident, unless you have not seen the video?"

"The way I saw it, it looked like he collided with another player and as he was falling his leg lifted up and caught the guy in the neck. Freak accident On second viewing you can see him slightly change direction, isn't colliding with another player and sticks his leg up to catch him. The video is only about 15 seconds long and from a bad angle really but it shows enough to suggest it was deliberate and has probably been a big part of the charges bought against him."

"Stevethehammer 10:52 Interesting. I've not seen the video but I did think on the face of it, it was very odd someone was arrested. If it looked like it was deliberate then the bloke could well be in a lot of trouble."

"I saw the video and on first viewing it looked innocent and a freak accident, only after watching it back a few times, I realised that he literally kicks out at him and it doesn't look like an accident at all. Surprised more hasn't been made out of it to be honest."

"Three of my boys all played Ice hockey in the EIHA leagues, although neck guards were not mandatory all the players in the leagues did wear them In senior professional hockey neck guards are not used and like Cough said they are very very sharp, although accidents like this are rare, it's a very frightening prospect for one of those blades to go anywhere near your neck"

"Ice skates can get pretty sharp from the ice like razor blades. They want to introduce neck guards now. I remember when the NHL made it mandatory to wear helmets for new players, current players could wear them if they wanted to."

Must confess I was surprised that there wasn't a thread when this happened. Absolutely horrific. Playing football for 25 years I never saw someone lose their balance and end up kicking someone in the throat but grass isn't ice and I have no experience with Ice Hockey. When I saw it it looked to me like he was trying to block him with his leg but got it horribly horribly wrong. Seems the guy arrested is a pretty dirty player by all accounts.

I think Happy Golmore did it as he was the only guy to ever take off his skate and try to stab somebody.
