"Just be clear about the OTT thing. The issue wasnt that we all thought everyone was going to die. It's quite clear that no diseases we have ever seen is capable of wiping out mankind. (We'll probably do it ourselves with a nuke or something..) However, it's blatantly obvious that without mitigation SOME people would definitely die. And at that point you count the worst case scenario given the data you have (maybe 1% or so). And you take on the crucial fact that you cant reliably tell who will actually die from this because it's a rapidly developing story in its very early stages. Yes the logic was older people (which is pretty much true of any illness) but there were also younger people dying. Doctors and Nurses were dying overseas. Some in their 20s and 30s. Some with no underlying illnesses previously. It had also not been put out there and confirmed it was airborne virus in march/April etc.. Trump knew early doors because the Chinese told him but he decided not to tell anyone in the USA (I believe he didn't want to spook anyone.. ffs!). People were still washing fruit and wearing gloves everywhere in march / April going on original govt advice that it wasnt airborne and it was all about being clean! I suspect the real reason they didn't say its was airborne early on when lots of data was coming out was that they didn't have the PPE available to deal with the demand. The OTT aspect of enforcement etc.. was I understand more about making as many people take it seriously as possible. Because if everyone thought it wasnt a big deal then the whole effort would collapse. It was more psychological than anything in my opinion. Trying to get the R rate down. the fact is, if we all carried on as usual and went to work etc.. squashed up on that tube. A lot more people would have died. It's a fact. And you couldn't tell exactly which one of us would be dead. Even if 99% survived its the unpredictability of that 1% is the main issue. And finally, I imagine if we let it rip, like all viruses it would get weaker and weaker as its most aggressive forms kill people quicker and the weaker strains survive. It's just that no one knew how many people it would take to die and what the time frame was. Which is why the herd immunity thing was forgotten about in most countries. And then it was conceivable that hospitals would be overrun trying to save people without any form of medication that we knew would solve it. I think there were many stupid things done in that 2yrs or so.. but I think the overall premise was correct. I see no logic that dictates otherwise."

"Oh how absolutely beastly of them! Only problem is, most of the questioning was in fact perfectly obvious utter bollocks spread through the arse-end of the internet by a horde of specially dedicated trolls. Other than that, oh dear, what a shame never mind - the government response in the UK, especially as regards international travel at key stages of the pandemic, was nothing short of tragically inept."

"""However, the very thing that was the most disgusting of all, is that if anyone DARED question any of this at the time, they were treated as social pariahs by the scared & ignorant, and worst still, anyone in the public eye wanting to debate it were cancelled."" That appears to still be happening as well, if you listen to the likes of Pickled and 360, who suggest it's crazy to even think the response was OTT."

"Eerie Descent 12:37 Wed Nov 22 Schweetheart, get of your high horse and read what I wrote in full. I agreed with you. The middle and end were handled extremely badly. The lockdown hokey cokey, VARIANTS, PPE, Vaccine effectiveness and mass rollout. All piss poor."

"I would just add, the vulnerable (and those that were just scared - you, Pickle, Captiol They, you know, the strong robust types) should have been protected, stayed indoors for as long as they felt comfortable, taken the jabs etc. As I said though, healthy grown adults and children who were under no serious threat from it should have been allowed to carry on with life after a couple of months. That's not really up for debate now."

"Moncurs Putting Iron 10:51 Wed Nov 22 No, it's not spot on in the slightest. I think MOST people, even if instinct at the time said otherwise, can accept the initial moves made. A brief lockdown, people being sensible, try to understand what really is going on. Note the word BRIEF. However, once it was very fucking clear that 99% of people would be able to shift it on like you would with flu/heavy cold, there was no need for the doubling down. I had it at it's height of severity, around November 2020 I was really fucking bad for a week, but I got over it. So why the fuck should people who know they can get over it, be hidden away? Furthermore, people were forced (yes, people were essentially being forced in one way or another if they wanted to get on with things) to have a jab of something that no one knew the long term effects of, even if they'd had it and got over it? What The Fuck? Worst still, when it was clear children were literally under no threat whatsoever from it, making them have the jab? Really? There was more than enough time for all this to be clear, and to be allowed to have sensible debate about it. However, the very thing that was the most disgusting of all, is that if anyone DARED question any of this at the time, they were treated as social pariahs by the scared & ignorant, and worst still, anyone in the public eye wanting to debate it were cancelled. People losing their fucking livelihoods over questioning something. Wow. For fuck sake man, get off your vanilla coloured ergonomic leather working from home chair and have a walk around your stepford wives 4 bedroom semi-detached, and be honest with yourself. It was a load of fucking bollocks after that initial lockdown, and you know it. The 10 Downing Street party-goers certainly knew it was bollocks."

"To be clear, I was both worried and very unsure early on as there was so little good information. The better info started coming out at the end of March 2020 and grew at an increasing pace. BTW, my mother in law was visited every week by my wife and her sister and she’s now a healthy 100 years old!"

"I don’t think that anyone believed the virus was so deadly it was going to wipe us all out. You’re such a dwama queen, Twundle. But what was obvious from the start is, as a 21st Century developed society, we can’t really afford to have the kind of government that represents wankers like you."

"""The ide of Crisis management is just that, Go worst case and HOPE you need to work back from there."" I agree. But it was really blindingly obvious pretty early on that this wasn't the deadly killer virus that was going to wipe us all out. And if you listen to this inquiry, they're saying we didn't do enough. What a load of shit."

"threesixty 6:32 Tue Nov 21 Re: So, we're not going to even talk about the OUTRAGIOUS covid inquiry Then? Lee But fuck me, it was a one off madness that scared the shit out of everyone. It was unprecedented. You cant say anyone's response was OTT. I mean,.. that's such a crazy thing to say. Sending 7 armed police officers to shut down a gym isn't OTT? https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/gym-owner-fined-1000-armed-22851001 The police forcibly separating a 97 year old woman from her daughter (an NHS worker) who tried to rescue her from dying alone in a care home isn't OTT? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1E390UHzTY I dread to think what people like you would have allowed to happen before all was said and done."

"""You need to be looking at the likes of Fauci, Vallance and Whitty who were advising them. "" To be quite honest I don't thing anybody in government understood the advice they were being given (or possibly didn't like where it was leading) and so fell back on what they felt the population were asking for - but what they didn't (or wouldn't) realise it that it wasn't the population asking, it was MSM ""on behalf of the population"" (to sell more advertising, I assume). What the population didn't really want or need is science presented as the absolute gospel truth (a.k.a. ""The Science""), but, once again, MSM dived in to muddy the waters and attempt to bamboozle the punters. They were worryingly successful at that part of the process."
