Mike Dean admits he's dodgy...

Post threesixty »

"https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/aug/25/mike-dean-admits-avoiding-var-call-to-spare-referee-more-grief-last-season ""Mike Dean has admitted he failed to correct a mistake in a Chelsea v Tottenham match last season to prevent his friend Anthony Taylor receiving extra “grief”."" Surely, they can't continue having the same group of refs operate VAR as they ones they put on the pitch? Wouldn't it make complete sense to have 2 independent groups, one to oversee the other without any bias etc. For a competition with clubs in it worth billions why do they allow for so much bullshit? The VAR technology is undermined by the people operating it basically. Refs mates calling decisions for them,... it's madness."

I was unlucky enough to catch this rat on the 'new look' soccer Saturday. No wonder Stelling walked.

"there's too much money in the premier league for decisions to be made by refs based on ""didn't want to put a mate in the shit"". it could just doddering incompetance, but when there are millions of pounds riding on every decision, i somehow doubt it. whether it's as conspiritorial as acting under instruction i couldn't say, but they certainly know who butters their bread."

"Rossal 1:29 I would say it's far worse than human error. It's a thought out and calculated decision to ignore an incident that shouldn't have been ignored, based on any imagined implications of not ignoring it."

I don't think VAR is a good thing I just think the officials are now so heavily reliant on it. They know if they don't awards penalty and it's a clear as day they'll get a voice in the ear telling them you need another look. Slow motion replays ruin football more than var. Everything looks worse slowed right down. Also it's rules. The rules need to be rewritten. Handball two years ago is completely different now and is it for the better ?

VAR should be monitored and run by women. They won't have a problem like this one Mike had.

"Its an astonishing admission, although as said he loves being in the spotlight What it does highlight is what i've said for years.... scrap VAR. It was brought in to eliminate human errors from referees yet the issue is to eliminate those errors it goes to a human who shock horror.... makes a human error It will only ever work if a computer applies the same formula/logic to every decision but that won't happen so scrap the whole thing. Get back to refs making decisions on the pitch and get back to the game flowing more and no interruptions. VAR is fucking shit and not made football better one bit"

"The key word is “friend”. He has admitted to cronyism which goes against most ethical codes and conduct. It is astonishing that these cunts are getting away with marking their own homework. VAR should be reviewed by independent and neutral people, or better still, artificial intelligence."

"This comes as no surprise at all. Old mates more concerned with keeping fellow club members happy than doing their job. There’s been admissions similar to this in the past from top referees who have admitting not sending people off because of the teams they played for, the gravitas of the individual games and the need to ‘manage’ a match. Nothing is ever done about it. We all see on a regular basis how decisions play out when they concern the largest clubs."

This is going to be really interesting how this plays out. The admission is top drawer bonkers. But will there be any pressure to deal with the ramifications of such and admission? If there was an independent body to oversee fairness in sport maybe we'd get change. But are the PL ready to make the necessary change to the process here? I feel like they will want to sweep it under the rug and say Mike Dean is no longer with us and everyone else is perfect so shut up. And the media won't do anything either. But they'll ban Trippier for letting his brother know he's moving to another club!

"Absolutely shocking revelation TBH. Completely beings the game into disrepute and shreds the integrity of the officials if they are thinking about any single thing other than an incident in isolation. If he's worried about the grief his mate is going to get then you have to extrapolate that to 'Do they want the hassle that goes with denying big clubs their decisions', 'Do they have a certain like/dislike for teams, players or managers? It makes an absolute mockery of the supposed impartiality of the system. We've all suspected it and moaned about it and here it is in black and white. TBH I'm surprised it's not splashed all over the back page of every newspaper, given the seriousness and implications of the admission."

"The obvious question here is how many other refs have acted this way and how often does it happen, the whole thing needs closing down and starting afresh. And yes, the bloke is a mega cսnt."
