Just back from the game and I haven't come away from a 1-3 so happily for a long time. It's great for the armchair generals to say Benrhama this and that but in the ground at the time it looked like a couple of really positive substitutions. Man City are a fucking machine and we put up a good fight against a team that will score 10 against a team this season.

"Losing is always upsetting but I have come away after todays performance feeling positive. At times we played some good football. Paqueta was superb again. Alvarez too as was JWP. kudus looked like he could be a handful, Emerson and Coufal put it solid performances. Overall I like what I see, we have come a long way in 12 months, we are definitely heading in the right direction. A top 6 team is who we are. Happy Days! Looking forward to some cracking games this season. Gonna be great to see it all unfold! COYI’s"

You can’t play Benrahma against city. Whole dynamic changed with that daft move. Fornals on was obvious call but Alvarez injury left moyes/Nolan having to think on the spot which they clearly can’t do

you're looking at it the wrong way around. He'd rather protext Alvarez fitness than Soucek. But both have a role to play in this very effective squad. things are looking up at WH

smartypants 9:05 Sat Sep 16 I was thinking of your post when I read the match report. At least it was a step up from the traditional 5-0 thrashing.

"smartypants 11:36 Fri Sep 15 Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Man City - Official Match Thread - Preview Probably the most predictable game of the season. 1 nil city, then 1-1 and we all start getting excited, then they go 2-1 up on about 75 mins, then cruise to a 3-1 lead at about 85 mins. Sadly.. I wasn‚Äôt far off"

"Can’t fault the effort from any of our players and we looked like we could have got something out of the game once we went ahead, for 10 minutes we took the game to them and we’re creating chances but this constant everyone get into a defensive shape just doesn’t work against better teams, especially when City just want the ball and everyone is comfortable with it. At least we gave them a game and didn’t just fold, but with a bit more bottle or belief in his squad Moyes had the chance to get better out of the game, but his cowardly way of just spoiling the game then chasing it when we’re down pisses me off."

"third time this season areola is man of the match. I'll admit I enjoyed the first hour but yet again, the clown in charge has no idea what subs to make. I agree, he couldn't wait to get alvarez off as soucek looked over like a sad puppy as his number was shown. benrahma did fuck all and I thought we were doing fine, antonio was getting the better of their CBs. he'll continue with this deep shit, and areola will have to keep performing miracles"

"I enjoyed this game, even though we lost. I think we do have something pretty decent building up in the squad now, so much to be pleased with. JWP (incredible signing already), Alvarez fantastic, but so many others who are working the system we now play (Zouma, Antonio, Bowen, Edison was immense). We will beat a third of the Prem easily this season if this continues. Kudus is only jut beginning. Only small / slight gripe is Pacqueta overplaying in the wrong places on the pitch. But look we just lost to arguably the best club team in the World so WTF"

I suspect ?Ålvarez simply sat down to have a rest during the substitution interval. That was used by Moyes to hook him instead of Soucek. Very much seemed like but then I was only watching a stream. Did he hobble off?

It could have been worse and to be fair we did turn up. As most sides who play city this season will be saying: put this one behind us and move on.

"Stowie. Yep Alvarez going off didn't help. Didn't look like an injury, probably cramp and tightness. Played OK and we kept them out in the 1st half but Coufal was always going to lose out to Doku in the end. Ironically Coufal was better attacking today great cross for the goal. We did knock the ball around better but really needed Kudus in from the start to have a better outlet. We can't play against the really top teams like that and expect to hold out, even the other PL teams will be hard.. Areola great reflex saves but could have done better for Silva goal as could Aguerd. Again Ings playing was an error. Don't think he touched the ball. Benrhama poor Mubama a better option but we will have to wait until Lincoln I guess. For once I'm not blaming Moyes entirely but it didn't really add up. Despite our defence we still conceded 15 shots on target."

"A few things we should learn from that:- Bowen as a central striker just doesn't work, any more than Ings does. Kudus should start. Benrahma is not good enough to be a starter, so why not put Kudus there? I know it's not his usual position but I've no doubt he's versatile. Wouldn't mind seeing him tried out in the middle - I reckon he could be a revelation. Soucek was back to his poor form of last season. Moyes needs to get used to the idea that he shouldn't be first choice. Alvarez has to play in all important games - we missed him when he went off today. Give Mavropanos a start on Thursday, partly because Zouma's dodgy knees won't be able to keep up with two games a week, and also because we need to see what he can do. I reckon we might just see him pushing for a regular start."

City are getting more cynical with every season. They're allowed to get away with it and it won't change now. That's ship has sailed Thought we were average. Just as well they had 4 of their best players missing

Rode our luck 1st half. Haaland should have had two there but our goal was very good. I'd have hoped that Antonio would get involved more. Start of the 2nd we had the kick off & went for a hoof ball which just gave them possession straight away. They get the ball straight away & score. Infuriating. 1-0 up... don't give them the ball.... Anyway not much you can do against moneybags Citeh. I can't really get excited about their success with the $$$$ they have behind them & their smug fans (Noel Gallagher et al) are just odious. We look a lot better this year but I really hope we can have the ball a bit more in general.

"Two things: 1. I've watched West Ham since man crawled out of a cave, and we have ALWAYS conceded stupid goals in that five minutes either side of half-time... you'd think we would have sorted it out in the preceding 40 or 50 years. 2. Like others, I am getting racked right off with the cynical fouling by City and sides like them. It needs stamping out - issuing cards much sooner in the game is essential, so that this behaviour is then far more likely to attract a red later in the game. I was reasonably happy today until I went for a piss and came back to see the Tottenham result... bastards."
