Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

Couple of journalists on Twitter saying Hearing from a source with knowledge that one of the big six English clubs is now seriously considering pulling out of the Super League They are accusing Liverpool and Manchester United — the 2 clubs leading the breakaway — of lying to them and “f***ing up” Major split in ESL

Q. How many neutrals will be watching Arsenal (14th) v Atletico (15th) in a league with no relegation of promotion or relegation? A. No one. That's how fucking many. If UEFA and the national FAs can expel these clubs from their competitions and cut off significant income streams there will be no financial legs in this. Cue ludicrous US basketball-style play-off system where 16 out of 20 teams qualify.

"The Europa League as it is now is fucking shit. Knocked out teams from the CL automatically go into the EL, that's a bit of a joke for the ""smaller"" clubs who have got into the latter parts of the competition just to get beat by one of the bigger clubs."

Romfordboy 1:33 Tue Apr 20 The government said that they were not having it and would use ALL MEANS to prevent it in it's current form Now it is in the public domain that Chelsea and City were reluctant - could it be as I suggested last night that someone has lent upon their owners? It would not be difficult to imagine how and where that leverage would come from given the geopolitics around Russia and The Gulf

"'Big six' still unified in their position Simon Stone BBC Sport There are lots of rumours swirling around just now in addition to all the strong statements and stated positions against the planned European Super League. But I have just spoken to someone who is close to the clubs concerned and they were adamant there is no weakening of resolve within the six English clubs who have signed up to ESL. In their view, the plans have been thought through and will benefit the game as a whole. The clubs are waiting for the storm to die down."

"The solution to the CL issue is simple Go back to the EC and EUFA cups, knock out and proper draw. There are more territories now, so more champions The EUFA Cup was huge back in the day, go back to it. Scale the entry by coefficient, but knockout after an initial seeding round or two Then as a curtain raiser play a Super Cup match,in some far flung region for branding, between the two previous winners Job done"

Mike Oxsaw 1:08 Tue Apr 20 The combined debt of the dirty dozen is approaching £8 BILLION. An average debt per club of £660 MILLION. However Real Madrid (£900 MILL) and Barcelona (£1.7 BILL) are easily the most indebted. This is an obvious reason for their enthusiasm for this cynical powergrab by a small cabal of club owners. The huge sums on offer will pretty much wipe out their debts.

"Block 1:28 Tue Apr 20 Correct. And that's why I don't get the concept of this ESL because the Champions League has basically become a version of a European League. Too many games, group stages too long, and, generally, most of the fucking clubs going in it are always in the CL anyway. Well, apart from Arsenal as they are now shite."

Is there any possibility that this could blow up in their faces and financially ruin the likes of Tottingham? They seem to be in a vulnerable position with their new stadium and them not being very good.
