Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"...""available free on a state of the art streaming platform"". I'd be up for that on the condition that I don't have to register for such a service, They don't need to know who, just how many, are (going to be) using the platform,"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
I am not so happy with UEFA to say no change is needed. The only thing I've read that I thought that would be good is the super league said all games would be available free on a state of the art streaming platform. That is how all football should be.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
The Saudi’s won’t get involved this side of their World Cup. Although the Yanks might banded together and try and go for it. If they can pony up the wedge.? It’s good because it means teams like us will get a bigger bite at the Cherry. I still think the entire top half of the Premiership will all be playing in some kind of European competition mid week. By the turn of the decade

The Premier league will reap what they have sowed When the 6 QUISLING clubs were negotiating behind the leagues back they got fined about £5.50 between them The other 14 should have voted for a penalty for each club of: 50 point deduction £100m fine 3 year transfer ban Something that directs more money to 'big clubs' will happen eventually especially if the Saudi sports washers are paying

"Gaffer58 9:47 Thu Dec 21 ""I hope it goes ahead just to screw FIFA, EUFA etc."" After constantly seeing that slaphead Gianni Infantino with his trout firmly stuck in Saudi Arabia, I'm likely to agree with you. FIFA and UEFA will eventually get what they deserve. And I don't think it would bother if we were part of it anymore. In fact, if it does go ahead, I hope we are."

"Let’s say you took the big clubs out of English football - even ten, though I suppose we’d be leaving then, what you’ve got is English football far more like it used to be. Won’t be the money, but more English players, more genuine fans, more even playing field. Trouble is the big teams won;t want to give that stream of income up, so they’ll just likely have massive squads and soak up every decent player to play both in the domestic league and in England."

"Not sure if its mentioned? (not trawling through the thread!) Apparently, there’s been proposal to reduce the number of teams in the PL, on the surface it might be to reduce match load for players, but it’s really so the big clubs can cut down on games against smaller teams and (no matter what some have said publicly about having nothing to do with it) leave room for more lucrative...........Super League games! If Super League does become a massive financial success, then the importance of domestic league will diminish, just like how the domestic cups are becoming worthless across Europe. Quo"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Sky were saying that Saudi are chummy with FIFA at the moment so won't want to rock the boat but if there is a pound note involved I'm sure they would be up for it. What would be a concern if say the perceived big six jumped the premier league how would that affect the premier leagues finance going forward. Like it or not world TV contracts and the massive money are down to world interest in the likes of Man City, United and Liverpool so a PL without those clubs wouldn't gather the worldwide interest and income it does now."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
I really wish they would just fuck off to a super league and let those left behind get on with it. Leave a much more competitive English league behind where pretty much any side has at least some chance of winning the league. English football is easily strong enough to survive without it. Knowing our luck we’d get invited into the super league and end up at the bottom of the it’s second division.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"The last time when the fans protested FIFA & EUFA thanked them for helping to stop it and said it wouldn’t be forgotten, we’ll the fans from City and Liverpool were well screwed at the champions league finals, even our final in a ground just not big enough, the authorities, whoever they are, even the FA and the Premiership just do not give a shit for the fans, so in some was I hope it goes ahead just to screw FIFA, EUFA etc."

"swindon hammer 1:30 Thu Dec 21 As well as Saudi money, I would not be shocked if some of the Saudi sides are shoehorned into it as well, so the likes of Ronaldo, Neymar and erm...Jordan Henderson can be showcased as part of the new ESL."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
goose. It sounds like they want to replace all the European competitions. The first 2 Groups will contain 16 teams each while the 3rd Group will contain 32 teams. Only 2 teams from the first 2 groups will be relegated each season while in the 3rd Group there will be 20 teams dropping out each season and 20 coming in. So in that respect clubs like us have got a chance of getting in through the back door. It’s basically safeguarding the big clubs so they are guaranteed European football every year and it makes the race for European spots in the domestic league’s almost redundant as you will know most of them will already be playing in them before a ball have even been kicked.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Swindon that sounds like something that would just replace the CL. I’m sure it could be handled midweek and allow the PL to continue. Maybe the ‘big 6’ will step away from domestic cup competition? Whatever it is it will happen if there’s enough money in it.

"They can't ban them from joining but surely as private entities they can take what actions they want as a result, ie throw them out of the domestic leagues and cups"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
I think the English clubs will be a bit wary of doing anything in the short term due to the fan backlash last time but the big Spanish & Italian clubs will be all over this immediately. It’s inevitable that some type of Super League will happen and no doubt there will be Saudi money involved.

That's ended any chance of Manchester City and Chelsea getting punished for breaking FFP regulations...

"https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67783970 Banning clubs from joining a European Super League was unlawful and Uefa and Fifa are ""abusing a dominant position"", the European Court of Justice has said. It comes after a case was brought by the ESL and its backers claiming Uefa and Fifa were breaking competition law by threatening to sanction those who joined the breakaway league. Europe's highest court found against the governing bodies."

"Takashi Miike 2:33 Tue Sep 28 Yeah I noticed that too. Pravda news source for WHU ( C & H ) positioning the ""we had to sell Declan to pay off the debt"" story? Because we are doing well no one wants to ""rock the boat"" and start the protests. I understand that but these owners will slide back into their old ways if given an ""inch"". Problem we have is that in the current climate there is little interest from credible buyers and nothing would happen anyway until the obligation to not sell expires in 2023. We are stuck with them for at least 2 more years. ""The devil we know"" :-("
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Westham67. I agree I hope they do fuck off. They ate banned from ever re-entering their leagues and fifa ban their players from international competition. I am still beyond disgusted with any club involved and I think too many people in this country have forgiven and forgotten thank six's attempt to hold everyone to ransome. Cunts
