Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"For the players it'll come down to money, if this league goes ahead and they get the revenues they want. Do you want to earn 50 grand a week and play in domestic and UEFA competitions and represent your country, or do you want to earn 500 grand a week and forego all that? They'd essentially be scabs for doing so, but they can comfort themselves with their obscene paychecks. Lots will have some very interesting choices to make."

I wouldn’t want Celtic & Rangers in the Premiership but I would be open to a British domestic Cup to replace the League cup. I think that could bring some extra interest domestically. Especially if the shitty six leave.

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
The CL should go back to it just being the actual champions from each european league. You're not exactly an champion by finishing 4th or 5th.

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Russ of the BML 12:54 Tue Apr 20 Very true Russ. I haven't watched a Champions League game live for a long time not even the Final, same as Europa, no real interest anymore. Same with Euro or World Cup Qualification ow that it's pretty easy qualification with so many teams in it. It's the competition element for the fan as well. USA94 was a prime example. England didn't make it but those two games against Holland were pure drama looking back. Same with 2001, beating Germany away but having to beat Greece at home. Now you can have four of five teams in a group that are a walk in the park so you only really needs to win two games against a half decent opponent. to qualify. The beauty of The European Cup was the exciting knock out format. Didn't Liverpool and Forest meet in the first round one year? However I can understand as time went on it wasn't a money spinner for clubs but it's now gone too far the other way with far too many games. How ever a ESL would be even worse. No qualification/relegation and Man United v Real Madrid or Liverpool v Barcelona will be just another fixture rather than an event that happens say once every few years. Can't remember who said it but someone the other day said if you wanted to restructure the Champions League then make qualification open (in England for instance) to the Champions, FA Cup Winners and League Cup Winners because at least they are all Champions of a Competition. However as we have seen with the greed and closed shop mentality of these clubs it wouldn't work for those ""scavengers"" as Gary Neville describes them if Leicester won the League, West Ham won the FA Cup and Southampton won the League Cup. It would however putting winning a Cup back as an important achievement."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"The PFA's in each retrospective countries must be able to do something, if the players do not wish to leave the leagues they're already in. Could be interesting to see the ""lesser"" clubs sign some of the big named players."

"Crassus 1:21 Tue Apr 20 Agree with that, but the fix is not to replace that disaster with a more efficient version of the same process."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Crassus 1:21 Tue Apr 20 Top post and spot-on. And a permanent birth in the CL has been an absolute curse for Barcelona at least as well. So this ESL really is like pouring petrol on that bonfire of the vanities as you so well put it.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"""No one gives a shit about the money, it’s the removal of the competitive element."" But the money has the effect of removing the competitive element from the domestic leagues as well, because the ESL clubs will have a huge amount of more spending power, and there would never be another Leicester or West Ham in and around the top places. It bothers me a lot more that they'd fuck up the PL than the CL."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"If restrictions are put on players in the ESL, maybe the 'stars' of the future will choose to play in their domestic leagues, and they will be spread around all the clubs. This would lead to evenly matched teams, which would be good for the watching fans."

"FIFA should cancel all player registrations for Judas clubs, making all their players free agents if they wish to leave"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"The CL has been an absolute disaster for football Any success has been polarised around very few, and now mainly broke clubs Cast your eye across Europe and see just how national leagues have been skewed by CL admission. It is even worse in countries with single entrants England to a degree, has been insulated by virtue of the tv revenues, but generally, on all levels the CL has become a bonfire of the vanities that has served no one well"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"I’m not sure some of these sides need the security of being guaranteed Champions league/Super league status, the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona always qualify, its the clubs in Italy and in particular the PL that seem the problem, the PL has 4 spots but there are 6 ""greedy 6 teams"" so at least 2 will miss out, and then throw in every so often a lesser club has the audacity to finish in the top 4 and/or one or more of the greedy 6 is so bad they shoot themselves in the foot (Arsenal this year) they cant even make the Europa spot…."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"The clubs involved should be removed from the PL, the Cups, the CL and fine them. Sadly the players are going to pay for the owners greed, but there's not much you can do which doesn't impact them in some form."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"threesixty wrote... Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !! It would be really funny if the PL decided to allow 6 new clubs into the division in similar locations to ones that have left with new ownership and big investment... I was thinking something similar. The 14 could form a new league with 6 spots for new fan owned incarnations of the scabby 6. e.g. Manchester City FFC (Fans Football Club). Players would probably be able to be free agents if the FA cancel registrations of the players and they can sign for the new clubs. Clubs can ground share somewhere until the old clubs go broke and need to sell the grounds or get the government to compulsory purchase the grounds. It would be crazy times, but any plan that fucks the owners of the scabby 6 and protects the fans and fair competition gets my backing."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Think how many kids will never be able to afford to watch their team play, or will never go to an away game or will never watch a small team host Liverpool in the fa cup. Coz that’s what happens if the 6 leave the PL for the ESL. We might pick up some of their fans though."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"This could work out to be a good thing in the long run. Re-establish the English league with proper clubs with proper fans, West Ham will become one of the new big 4/big 6 and we can slowly watch the demise of those 3 shitty London clubs who have always worried about little old West Ham and bottled it when we hit the top 4."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Its not even the Chapions League. In the end it'll be Real Madrid V Man United A nd B teams in a mini Super League while they loan out all their spare players to the B leagues.

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
What is the total debt of these 15 founding (Pilgrim Fathers) clubs? Is it serviceable in the current climate? Can they re-finance?
