Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"daveyg 12:12 Tue Apr 20 Re: Football Super league rumours Bamford talked complete bolllocks. He said that it was disappointing that people are only getting worked up over the loss of revenue instead of getting worked up over racism. No one gives a shit about the money, it’s the removal of the competitive element, and racism isn’t really a problem as it is. So bollocks on both counts. I’ll tell you what though , if people thing online abuse is bad now wait until the little darlings start signing for EPL clubs"

"This is why UEFA make me laugh when spewing accusations of greed. There was fuck all wrong with the European Cup. They ruined the very concept, gave it the moronic name of Champions League, and all in the name of greed. And then when they realised more cash was to be made, they ruined it some more."

From a football point of view I hope they get kicked out of the PL and they go to an 18 team league. Make the cups important again. From a money point of view I can’t see the 14 wanting that. If it were my business I’d be looking to build bridges with the 6 and make this ESL work. The new CL format has similar principles anyway so you can’t avoid it.

"""But in doing this they have created a competition that now lacks proper suspense, jeopardy and excitement until it reaches the 1/4 final stage. And I watched those this year and they weren't great either."" That's the point, though. European football is a nice bonus, but no more than that. It's national football where the real passion, intensity and tribal rivalry is."

It would be really funny if the PL decided to allow 6 new clubs into the division in similar locations to ones that have left with new ownership and big investment... after all its all a brand nowadays.. all the local supporters can just support the new Arsenal or Manchester team and carry on. problem solved!

The current CL format is like left wing education policy. Everybody gets a gold star. Or red star. Belgrade.

Do you really think the CL is a success? The clubs like it because they get a load more wedge but is it a good watch? No. Does the average fan give half a fuck about it? No. The CL is a load of shit.

"What these clubs want is to still play in their domestic league, domestic cups and the European Super League and the UEFA competitions carry on without them. But this is where this can be stopped in one fail swoop. All of the domestic leagues and FA's ban any European Super League team from their domestic league and cups. Then if UEFA ban them from their competitions, you suddenly have a club that is eligible to play in the European Super League only. Not sure if they could make that work financially. They probably could. But surely, as a fan, you would not want your club in this one single competition? Surely not?"

JPM are counting on a ROI through media viewing and advertising revenues. At the moment this aspect is shrouded in mystery and my feeling is that the universally negative response and robust rebuffal from FIFA is going to get them their fingers burnt.

"goose 12:44 Tue Apr 20 This is where the CL is a victim of its own success. I can understand why they have developed it and over time increased the number of teams. They have attempted to bring as many teams in. When it happened many said they are just diluting it and making it less attractive. But their argument was why should the likes of Atalanta, Salzburg, Sparta, Leicester not have a pop and let their fans experience it. And, in some respects, its a fair point. But in doing this they have created a competition that now lacks proper suspense, jeopardy and excitement until it reaches the 1/4 final stage. And I watched those this year and they weren't great either."

"JPM are behind it because they'll have contracts that guarantee a multiple return on the money they're putting up to start things off. If and when this moronic venture fails, these teams will be in debt to the cunts. JPM isn't a charity, they'll e multiple strings attached and it will just add more debt to these parasitic cunts"

They won’t come back. The owners will just relocate. And sell the stadiums and land for a mega profit. This season has proven to them that they can run a successful business without having a stadium full of them pesky fans.!

I want a World League where every professional division in every country is involved and mashed together in one big league structure with 58 divisions and one mega cup that every team in the world will play in. I'd watch that. Have a chew on that carbon footprint Greta Thunberg you 'reflection in the back of a spoon' headed cսnt.

Also this 23 year deal hinges on the fact that these clubs can still play in their domestic leagues which I am guessing they have been guaranteed will still happen If they are thrown out and legally too I’m guessing these contracts are void or can be ripped up

"The only reason those outside of Europe watch the CL is to see Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool etc etc. They don’t give a fuck about Atalanta and Salzburg and Marseille. The ESL gives them that in spades. JPM won’t be backing this without having done their homework."

"Let them go. The economics of this on,y work if they have huge numbers of fans willing to pay a lot of money to support them. For the English teams at least, I don’t think those fans/customers exist. Be great to have a proper competition in England for the year it take for the others to come back economically worse off with their tails between their legs"

Employment law would suggest any employer can employ an employee assuming the national rules are adhered to. I could see these teams doing a bit of a Chelsea and signing a couple of hundred players and loaning them out to smaller clubs like us?

Lee. People coming out saying he should do this or that. I would imagine most of these employees are frightened to tell the time to anyone at the moment. For fear of being in some breach of there contract.
