Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

Imagine losing our top players to these clubs who suddenly have £350 million more to spend than anyone else.

"I expect they will get there way. That gravy train won't exist for long though bacause clubs not in the cսnt six will never be able to compete with them and their only ambition will be to not get relegated and they will end up getting less of the PL pot too. The only way to save football is to stop this one way or another. Imagine a game where there isn't any chance of us having another season like this, where you can't even dream of it."

Seems like the gov is going to take a heavy handed approach to this... and get cross eu support. I think this is going to be taken out of the other 14 hands anyway

"Kick the 6 out, bring in Celtic & Rangers, promote 4 from below, would be fun. Doesn’t help Scottish football tho unfortunately."

"Haz 9:19 Tue Apr 20 PSG's owner also happens to own beIN Media, who would either have to pay more money for these Super League rights or lose out to a rival TV company."

"I agree with goose, I am fully expecting a fudge from the PL meeting today. I'm hoping for these teams to be expelled, but I reckon they will be playing PL next season. The fans, pundits and media reaction has been encouraging so far, though. Maybe we need a national supporters opposition movement to coordinate protests."

The only way to put a stop to this is by UEFA And FIFA banning any players from international competition. That will be enough to put the cat amongst the pigeons.

"Plus, don't forget, if they get away with it this time, they'll just be back in a couple of years to squeeze even more out of the game for themselves. West Ham will never, ever be one of ""they"" what's doing the squeezing."

I know why the German teams aren't in this but can anyone tell me why PSG don't want to be part of it?

"goose 9:09 Tue Apr 20 They will not be on ""that"" gravy train. There's not even standing room only on that one, and the last one has made it's final journey. We, and the 13 other clubs will be left with The Titfield Thunderbolt - with ""Tit"" being descriptive of both destination and passengers."

Do you think the other 14 chairmen care about: A) the history & tradition of English football and its supporters Or B) Money ???

"You know that if this went ahead then the top 6 in England would be sown up. That would see a massive drop in the potential value of buying a club like West Ham. Seeing as Dave would rightfully see this as the end of his dreams of selling the club at a huge profit then I think he'd vote against that, don't you? Premier League clubs would adjust and manage with reduced TV income. It's the lower league clubs having to make do on lowered solidarity payments who'd be fucked."

"Maybe if this Stupor League can be set up as something to ridicule (on social media?) and the teams in it only there by dint of ""tokenism"" - to tick a few boxes? I think the damage has been done though. The ""Big 6"" have shown their hand and must now be shown the PL door. Could do with a wordsmith or six throwing together some chants for when fans get back into the stadia. ""In without winning, you got right in without winning!"" ""In without wi-i-i-i-i-i-inning, you got right in without winning!"" ""Hey! Ta-ra, Ta-ra!"" ""You've got your own league, own league,"" ""It's driven by greed, by greed,"" ""So, Ta-ra, Ta-ra."""

"If this is allowed do happen, it destroys the domestic game permanently and across the whole of Europe If it is stopped or they fuck off, it's hugely damaged but can be repaired. It's easily the lessor of 2 evils"
