"It's not really rock'n'roll though is it, it's charleston crossed with line dancing......the story is all the same poor people struggling to get food on the table so the women sell their bodies.....add in the Nazi element and we all know already what cunts they were whatever era of them it was......."

"I cant think of many other rise of the nazi sex drugs and rick n roll tv shows. They do subtitles. However, I guess you’re referring to the aesthetics which probably are German. Theres plenty of artistic licence and its definitely driven by the original book’s vision and story. Very interesting time and place though. The end of one era and the start of the next."

"Ham. BB is multilayered slightly slow burn noirish look at the rise of the Nazis through the Berlin vice dept. Its got sex and drugs and rock n roll and violence and intrigue, politics, gangsters and money. Whats not to like?"

"The Wire is a tricky one. I personally loved it but I know it's quite marmite It's very jarring between season 1 and 2, where you expect things to pick up where they left off, but they don't- it just goes straight into the stevedore story but then you get more used to the focus on future seasons being about an aspect of Baltimore intertwined with, rather than strictly police/gangs/drugs. It can be hard to understand some of the dialogue in season 1 as well. As an aside, if anyone enjoyed The Wire and hasn't seen the recent 'We Own This City', then I really recommend it. Fantastic stuff, only 6 eps, and makes sense if you haven't watched The Wire anyway."

Ozark is brilliant also and so is Better Call Saul. I think Top Boy is probably one of the best UK shows and is incredibly gritty and realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and can't wait for the final season to be aired later this year. As mentioned by someone else Boardwalk Empire is also a contender for best of the rest after the list I put up earlier.

"Nurse Ratched 12:05 Fri Mar 31 You're absolutely right about The Shield. NYPD Blue ends very well, but it's the conclusion of a long-running episodic show rather than a clearly-defined story. Ozark is not in the same class as The Shield or NYPD Blue, but has a close to perfect ending. I don't get the love for The Wire at all. A couple of decent characters who come and go as and when the actors can be bothered and a story that fizzles out around the end of Season 2. Many disagree with me on that and that's all good."
