"Rossal 4:28 Wed Jan 4 Hmmm, good point. I guess it might be a contract term? Only potential upside to losing tonight which I see as the highly likely outcome. Gold's death has not helped because it may well further intensify Sullivan's procrastination with regards to sacking Moyes."

I suspect the passing of DG guarantees Moyes his job for a couple of days whatever happens tonight. I also suspect his passing makes Moyes demise inevitable.

"Not sure how the players can dig their way out of this when they know the manager is finished and whatsmore, they know the manager knows he's finished. The negativity Moyes exudes must've seeped into their bones by now. The game is up and everyone knows it."

"Given his record against the top 6, you'd think he might see it as worth swinging the bat to try something different rather than write them off. I mean, if you've written them off, what does it matter if you lose 1-0 or 3-0?"

"And only Arsenal have put more than two past us all season. How boring is that! Seriously, a new manager shouldn't have to do too much tweaking to improve performances. Whether they can get the results, but none are coming our way at the mo so what's to lose. Let's see what this evening brings against Leeds which may force a decision, or not!"

"Scorch - totally agree, mate. The thing that defines Moyes is how scared he is of losing. It makes him the most cautious manager. But the paradox is that by being that cautious, he simply invites defeats. Particularly against the so-called 'big' sides (I refuse to believe Tottenham are one!), of whom he runs scared. What a pathetic, cautious middle-manager mindset. He's all about survival - for his teams and himself. There is no glory in that approach - for him, his players or the club's fans. I'd rather do down blazing - life's dull enough as it is without extending a perceived 'bean counter' approach to the football we all pay expensively to watch at weekends. I'm not saying that you go 3-2-5 or anything bonkers like that. Any side would just get thumped. But loosen the reins, put more emphasis on possession and getting on the front foot - and let these players play. In all fairness to Redknapp, who had many flaws, that's something he always did. And before him, Lyall and Greenwood put his trust in players with good techniques and who wanted to get on the front foot. It probably cost them trophy or two, but it won us some silverware and was always enjoyable to watch."

"southbankbornnbred 12:37 Crazy isn't it. You'd think you could completely flip that on it's head and say rather than 'let's just defend and try to keep it 0-0' ,say 'well there's no expectation to get anything here, so why don't we just go for it?'. One win is as good as ekeing out three draws, and I'll be willing to bet that instead of sitting back and handing the impetus to the opposition, actually taking it to them over the long run will yield you more points. Sure you'll probably lose more, but you'll also win more to offset that. Genuinely I don't know why at Liverpool, Man U, Man City, Chelsea away, we don't just adopt a nothing to lose attitude and have a go at them from the off because in those games we have literally nothing to lose."

"southbankbornnbred 12:55 Wed Jan 4 It's not surprising, along with Pearce's comments we also heard Antonio say recently that Moyes doesn't really let the players have a go at the opposition unless they're a goal down with 80 minutes gone. Everything else is about being rigid and not conceding. Moyes' fear of defeat far outweighs his desire to win. which is why he's never won anything."

I remember getting absolutely slaughtered on here for naming Marco Silva as my first choice manager a few years ago. I bet Everton are gutted that they pulled the trigger early with him.

"Still shaking my head. According to Deloitte, we are the 16th or 17th biggest club side in the world by revenue (now likely to have dropped below Newcastle since that table was last updated). Top twenty. In the world. Yet, according to our former assistant manager, we genuinely have a manager who effectively writes off games against the six English sides 'bigger' than us. Only at West Ham could the gap between revenues fuelled by a tsunami of fans etc, and the two-bob Steptoe and Son way the club is managed and led, grow to such a degree."

"southbankbornnbred 12:37 Wed Jan 4 Proves what we all know. Moyes is a run of the mill, average, don't get past your station, cautious and under-whelming lemon. No wonder he looked so ecstatic when he had us playing well and in top seven and in semi final of Europe. I bet the bloke could hardly believe it was happening. And that's why we won fuck all. because, when all said and done, Moyes is a loser. His record tells you that. And when it came to the crunch last season in Europe, FA cup and qualifying for europe via PL we failed. Because the man sets himself low targets and dresses it up as success. A career loser and Mr Average. Setting himself and his players low levels of success so as not to get too carried away. And he has become very rich off the back of it."
