"Willtell, I completely agree with your first point and have said similar further down. This summer's window resulted in either a profit or marginal balancing of the books regarding Net Spend so the club are quids in as any money budgeted to be spent on incoming players was not needed thanks to the cash in from exiting players. Logic should tell you that we have that money sat waiting to be deployed along with any other funds earmarked for January. However, I disagree that the board will look to spend to secure Europe. Rewind just two years when we were sat comfortably in the top 4 and going great guns in the Europa League. Had we bought a striker that window we could have secured potential Champions League and certainly given ourselves a much better chance of turning over Frankfurt in the semi and then comfortably beating Rangers in the Final thus getting us into the Champions League that way to. Money stayed securely in their pockets that window with arguably and much greater chance of success and a bigger opportunity/carrot to go after. With that in mind I dont see them rushing to buy players on the off chance that we may get in to the top 6/7 during a season when you've got Villa going brilliantly, a strong Newcastle likely to be in the European places and then the traditional 'big 6' some of whom might not be doing great at the moment but all have the ability to turn it on over a run of games and get themselves in the mix and that is without even talking about Brighton who could also be involved in the scrap for those positions."

"I reckon the board are playing games with fans' expectations by saying we have to sell players before we can buy. Think about it. We sold Rice Scamacca, Vlassic, Masuaku and probably one or two others. I don't believe we spent all the money raised on buying JWP, Alvarez, Mavropanos and Kudus. A decent striker and we are on the verge of becoming a regular top 6 side. The board are not going to risk missing out on the millions European football brings the club imho."

Bernie 12:29 Tue Dec 19 He's also currently out injured for the second time this season. We ain't bringing in a striker. I'd guess it will be another CB because we don't have enough of those. I'd also keep Keher if nothing else for his versatility. I'd also move on Benhama. Liability with no upside.

"Where do people get this logic of not spending money now as we'll keep it set aside for the summer and a new manager will have a larger kitty to go spending. As if our owners run a ledger and say 'seeing as we didnt spend in Jan we've got X amount of money set aside to be added to the summers spend'. You know full well if they dont spend it now they just trouser it and its all forgotten about and never added to the budget for the next window. Dont get me wrong our owners are not tight but they are also not against pulling a fast one given the opportunity NOT to spend. Take this summer for instance. When you factor in all the outgoings including Rice and Scamacca, etc they basically didnt spend much if anything, does that mean that we have an imaginary credit from Summer 2023 burning a hole in our pocket waiting to be added to the next window? No chance. We need a striker, and have done for years, if we can get one we need to do that ASAP regardless of who the manager is at that moment in time or whether its a summer or winter window. A striker makes us better and will result in better results in the league and cups so lets get one."

"Cornet has been given just over 100 minutes and most of that against the pipe fitter / plumber team in the Europa. He’s a left sided forward with pace which obviously we don’t need because the master tactician and coach Moyesiah can see players to convert for that role like Benny, Fornals and Paqueta. Cornet yes over 100 minutes and he only got an assist to win a game in one 10’minute cameo. He’s obviously been given ample opportunity and shown nothing for the manager ? What we have to understand is that this team s built around the generational talent that is Soucek."

Anyone saying we'll buy a striker is talking out of the back of his head. Moyes will say no to anyone Tim suggested because he's obsessed with converting players he already has. I've noticed lately that he talks about Marko Arnaltovic and the way he converted him from a winger to a centre forward LOT. He's also said that if you buy a expensive striker and it doesn't work out the manager usually gets the sack

You can’t have it both ways where you castigate the performance of certain players and simultaneously criticise the manager for not giving them sufficient playing time. And Moyeswill bring in an experienced EPL striker in the new year. For free.

"Oh and Fornals too, ridiculous how little he's been used this season, just another player that Moyes has decided he doesn't like and therefore barely gets a look in"

"The squad is big enough and fit enough to plod through this season now. We've got the likes of Kehrer, Cornet, Benrahma, Ogbonna who are all capable and yet drastically underused. Stick with what we have, and reset in June"

"We're actually fifth favourites behind Liverpool, Leverkusen, Milan and Brighton. We'll joint fifth with Roma and Lens. Leverkusen are very good too"

"Bernie 12:31 Tue Dec 19 I'm no Moyes fan but beat the Mancs on Saturday and we go into Christmas 7th in the league. If we are able to bring in the right striker in Jan there is no reason why we can't get 6th or 7th this season and qualify for Europe via the league. Man U are all over the place, Newcastle are riddled with injuries and Brighton have dropped off their early season pace. Granted that is a big IF though and if he it were solely down to Moyes I wouldn't be holding out much hope but with Steidten doing his stuff in the background it gives me more hope."

"Bernie 12:31 Tue Dec 19 Leverkusen are the favourites for me, unbeaten in 24 in Germany after an unbelievable season last year since Alonso came in. I'll be surprised if them or Liverpool don't win it"

"Bernie 12:31 Tue Dec 19 ''With virtually no chance of winning the EL'' Will be tough, but if somebody can knock Liverpool out then reckon we have a decent chance. Generally agree though, logic is stay quiet in Jan except maybe a loan or two for reasons stated, I don't like the Jan window anyway."

"Do NOT give Moyes any money to spend in Jan, we're in no danger of going down and a european place will be almost impossible with the competition this season. With virtually no chance of winning the EL, this season will just be mid table mediocrity, Moyes will hopefully leave at the end and the new manager can be given a nice pot of cash"

"Manuel 4:43 Mon Dec 18 I was, of course, being facetious. Not sure what his current status is, but it would've been nice to see him play central in a front three when he was with us. But, that's life."

Weren’t we linked with Marcos Leonardo in the summer? He’s brilliant on Football Manager.

If Moyes is now finally going with the 3 up front then he opens up his options for a striker as he doesn't just need to be in the market for a work horse battering ram. Two players I would suggest are Sebstian Haller or Gianluca Scamacca. Both decent strikers.

"He thinks we don’t need a centre forward? Geezer is in la la land, fuck me does he have an issue with strikers or what. Let’s just go the season flogging our best player playing out of his best position shall we. Absolute minimum is a forward & proper centre back."
