"According to Ex, the Phillips fee breaks down as: - 135k per week wages (Until end of June) - Anywhere between 2m and 4m due on top, subject to performance related bonuses. So a total cost of between 5 and 7 million."

The power struggle continues and the team and supporters suffer. Sullivan is to blame for letting this farce happen on his watch.

Jesus Christ. Well that’s almost half an Osman there then. For a four month rental.

"Well, apparently off to Brighton so we'll see. At some point though, Sullivan has to put his belief in the people he's hired to do exactly this stuff rather than cut their nuts of on the say so of one of his dinosaur mates. And is it much more of a risk or a less sensible use of cash than several other buys we've made in the last few years? I'd argue both Kudus and Alvarez were risks for their price. Ings has cost a fucking fortune for virtually nothing. I dread to think of what the actual outlay on Phillips is going to end up being when May rolls around. 5 million fee along with 100k a week in wages was it? If so or similar that's probably 7 million with literally no ROI unless we win a trophy or make it into the Champions League."

"On the subject of loanees, Downes is having an outstanding season at Southampton. Russell Martin saying he is key to the team who havent lost since Sept? Martin says a lot of his work is unnoticed. Ability to press and intercept. Got to be one of our most successful loans ever for the loanee team? Shame Moyes didn’t give him more minutes and wanted him sold saying he didnt do enough in his 10 min cameos or when played out of position. Got Phillips now. Late 20s and out of shape. Touche Moyesie ;-)"

I’m not sure on this one. A 19 year old for €20m when he plays in a small league is an enormous risk.

"Taking that at face value, if Moyes, Noble and Stiedten all wanted Osman and Sullivan disregarded them all in deference to Silkman/someone/himself, then we are lost."

"I agree with your conclusion on Sullivan Sir Alf but it is interesting as to who has what authority at WHU. We know that Moyes current contract gives him the final say on players coming in. Steidten is Technical Director and Noble Sporting Director. I had hoped that this new set up signalled Sullivan's retirement from involvement in football matters. Unfortunately we have to recognise that all Chairmen of companies invariably have the last word on multi-million pound capital expenditures. On Hammers Chat yesterday they said that they had heard that all of Noble, Steidten and Moyes wanted the lad Osman. Sullivan, prompted by his old mate Silkman stopped it happening. Amateurish at best but embarrassing Sullivan is virtually impossible I'd assume given his record of imprisonment and a doubtful personal life history. Another Burnley type protest needs to happen imo..."

"Silkman is not Jota's agent. Jota is with Gestifute, the main Portuguese agency, whose clients include all that country's major players: Ronaldo, Silva, Dias, Nunez, etc. Thing is though, Silkman is one of those wheeler dealers who gets involved with other people's players, acting as intermediary for English clubs getting players in from overseas, so he would have benefitted from any deal he was involved in. Regarding Osman, the story at the time was that another intermediary agent got involved in the deal and wanted loads of money and the players agent complained to the Danish FA about it, which was why the deal got kiboshed. So whether it was down to Silkman or this other intermediary, all we know for sure is that an agent was to blame. I really wish FIFA did something about agents. Players should be able to have their own agent for sponsorship deals, personal appearances, etc. but for anything related to club transfers and contracts it should go through an FA representative who gets no additional fee. He would know the salary of every player in the country and could advise them accordingly of the upper reaches of what they should expect. Other than that it would be down to the player to negotiate himself."

"Its an interesting separate discussion Trundle Director of Football, also known as a Sporting Director or Technical Director, is a senior executive position within a football club responsible for overseeing the club's football operations, both on and off the field. Thats tge wiki definition But you are probably put you’re finger on arguably the biggest issue we currently have. Sullivan has employed an advisor and not empowered him to be more effective? If Sullivan still listens to his crony agents and Moyes on who should be purchased or worse still is still making choices himself its likely to undermine improvements in recruitment and ultimately the success of the football side of his business. Sounds like Steidten will want more automony and maybe that is why he might jump ship? The press talked about conflict between Steidten and Moyes early on which suggested Steidten was more autonomous and could over rule Moyes. Reality is its a mess. classic Sullivan. Neither one thing or another? The little man and his fragile ego continues to hold the club back as it always has"

"If Silkman tried to leverage Sullivan away from Osman to Jota in order to help his client and his own self interests, Sullivan did it, and then we STILL ended up empty handed, then you'd hope that's an end to their business relationship. One can dream"

"Marty, its another mind boggling frustration for me. Is Steidten a Director of Football or not? Because the rumour was Sullivan getting cold feet on the fee after takking to one of his trusted agents Silkman who happened to be Jota’s agent. Sullivan is 76 but is continuing to be the rotten corpse that holds the door shut on progress ?"

Our owners are richer than villas . According to the league table of owners wealth. Which obviously means the square root of fuck all when the one making the decisions is Sullivan.

"In other news, not sure if it's been mentioned but Osman is/will be off to Brighton for 19.5 mill allegedly. I swear to god if the kid turns out to be a proper player and Sullivan was quibbling over a million or two, while throwing a load of money down the toilet on Phillips at the same time, then that's full insanity. Love to know Stiedten's private point of view on that."

Sir Alf 1:23 Those numbers in black and white just make it all the more damning on a number of levels as to how stupid our transfer window just was.

"maverick180 I don't want to fall out mate but you are talking nonsense. For a start we didn't make a profit as you say. We lost money last year. This current year from June to end of May, we'll probably get back into profit. The owners of all football clubs have to make a profit to survive except a few Arab owned ones. The accounts include all income including Sky money. It was published that the Osman transfer was halted by Sullivan on advice from an agent when Steidten, Moyes and Noble all wanted him. Sullivan is the problem but not for the reasons you say."

"""our 5 year net spend is £110million behind Aston Villa’s"" You sure about that? Football365, dated 2 weeks ago, has the 5 year net spend currently as Villa: £-312.8m; West Ham £-247.51m, and that's including the Rice sale, which as I said before, made a big difference to our average net spend. https://www.football365.com/news/transfers-premier-league-five-year-net-spend-man-utd-man-city I'm sure you can dig out some obscure site that backs you up though. Every site gives out different figures for this stuff. Fact is that since moving to the O/S we've spent way more than we used to, comparative to other clubs in the PL. We used to spend about the same as the clubs fighting relegation, now we're spending the same as those expecting to finish 6th-10th. Now, I'm sure there's some who think we should be spending the same as the Champions League clubs, but frankly they're deluded."

"It’s all about spin with Sullivan All we’ve heard about this season are what great signings Kudus, Alvarez and Ward-Prowse have been Yeah great, but what happened to the sky money and the money from the sales of other players? Why haven’t we used it to sign a right back, left winger and a striker as well and had a real go this season I don’t believe it has anything to do with FFP as other clubs that don’t bring in as much revenue as us are still outspending us"
