"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

Re: Finance
"Chris Sutton Football is nothing without the fans, Jock Stein once said. The history and tradition of the six clubs, it has been built by the fans and the working classes How are Manchester United and Manchester City fans going to be able to afford to go on these trips? It's only going to be for the middle and higher echelons. The clubs have not read the room very well. How can you call it a European Super League if Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and PSG are not in it? It's a closed shop league and it will be boredom eventually. I get really excited about the Champions League, what's wrong with the structure? People will get bored of Real Madrid v Manchester United if it's every year. If you're an Arsenal fan, you will be finishing bottom every year."

"Hallerinthemorning 9:42 Mon Apr 19 Re: Finance If they offered a Super league 2 that u can get promotion into super league 1 and this was run alongside each countries normal leagues and cups, would you be game? It really is just changing the name of the champions league isn't it? Except that to seed this new super league one does not *Have* to qualify, its by invitation - a total stitch up by entitles clubs like Arse and Spuds who are not qualifying on merit this year and no doubt feeling the pinch"

Re: Finance
"By the way, fuck Gary Neville and any other Man U/Liverpool cսnt who thinks they have the integrity to lecture about the morality of football. Their clubs dominated because they benefited from millions of pounds generated by glory-hunting fans who had absolutely no connection whatsoever to those clubs. They hoovered up talent and resources and broke the connection between communities and their clubs. The roots for what is happening today lie in the glory-hunting fans that follow those two clubs."
Re: Finance
"This is a situation where the Football Lads Alliance could actually be of some use. I don’t quite think these foreign owners are quite aware of the propensity for English football fans to commit mass disorder, that’s how out of touch they are"

Re: Finance
"They want less games. Thats why the PL are pissed off. They want to undermine the PL and create the league that the foreign TV channels want to buy instead of the PL. Thats why the PL cannot allow the ""big 6"" to continue in their league. They will just field shitty teams and devalue it. They big clubs have already devalued the cup competitions, then they'll just devalue the league itself. Ultimately they dont care about fans in stadiums now they have fake crowd noise etc.. They just won't Chinese, Malaysian etc.. viewers to subscribe on PPV. They eventually want a global super league I'd expect. Where they invite whatever ""franchise"" wants to get some of the big money. They are literally using the 100+yrs of history the country has given to these clubs and using it to destroy the competition EVERYONE helped create."

"Even if the TV deal is not broken, the value of any future TV deals will be massively reduced without the historically 'top' clubs taking part in domestic leagues and worlds best players they have signed on show. Even if players taking part are banned from International football then it just devalues International football and its no longer a showcase of the worlds best players or measure of nations."

Re: Finance
Neville hitting the nail on the head again. All about subscription for each club rather than an even (ish) split of TV money. Heard a long while ago that it's why Scudamore left and they struggled to find anyone to take the job. Would imagine the ppv numbers were pretty stark in the experiment last year

Re: Finance
Is 14 (+ the FA) enough votes to disband the PL tomorrow then reconstitute it without the traitors & turncoats? A new legal entity would be immune from whatever the wannaway legal team tried to throw at it.

Re: Finance
"Funny how not one of these ""English"" clubs has an English based owner. Not one... How our govt can allow our premier sports business to be decimated by foreigners is utter madness. I dont think Boris can really let it happen. Labour would have a field day about how he let down the country. I'm not sure if this is going ahead at all really. Its all a bit too much."
