Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation

Post Phall Throw »

"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

"Takashi Miike 7:51 Fucking knew it. So predictable. Literally a like for like change that will do nothing to address any of the issues other than TAA being shit. Moyes levels of pragmatism and imagination. Continues to waste and starve Foden on the left wing for the sake of being structured in the middle. It's clear to see a rigid structured approach doesn't cut it when you look at the best teams. Free flowing and fluid with players switching positions. They will pass it right through our statues and easily snuff out our predictable attack. Such a cruel and shocking waste of some real talent. He's got a team with four £100 million players in the front six, and we play like disciplined workmen. Total embarrassment and disgrace. This gamble of taking only an injured Shaw for left back has really worked out well too, huh?"

Yep if we don't win today it's all Moyes fault FFS!

"Danny Murphy in particular seemed quite gutted Italy equalised. Pretty poor if you ask me to let emotions get the better of you in a game where he should be neutral. Sure I get Modric is a legend of the game and that was likely it for him and a bunch of other players who have had really good international careers having no right to achieve all they did, but we don't need the sombre wake of a post match."

"you can't beat a last minute heart breaking goal, I wonder if all those BBC pundits cry-wanked the evening away over Modric. anyway, the Swiss look a decent side so Saturday will be tough, we look toothless at the moment. however, the footballing brain of Barella, Jorginho and the two centre backs is something else. Just watch how they move into space to keep possession - something England need to learn. The last minute goal came from a centre back carrying to ball 30 yards. on to England tonight, Gallagher for TAA won't solve anything."

"I had sympathy for Croatia for about 2 seconds, then remembered what dirty bunch of cunts they are. Especially Perisic, who came on against us for tottenham season before last and almost immediately assaulted two of our players, probably out of anger that he only got few minutes towards the end of the match. Yes I have an astute memory."

"Croatia got Scotlanded. Really felt for Modric but fair play to Italy for just pulling it out of the bag. Was a sweet strike to equalise. Two really dramatic finishes to both groups so far. Great stuff. Would prefer it a bit more straightforward in group C later with England just winning please. Dead curious about what Southgate is going to do. Knowing how stubborn he is, I wouldn't 100% write off bloody TAA starting again or at least coming on late in the game. Hoping for Rice Bellingham Foden because that needs to be given a chance, but I feel like he doesn't know what to do with Foden which is unbelievable. Bellingham at 10 is 'safe' like repeatedly picking Mount was, because (although far more talented than Mount could dream of being) he's got discipline. Which he craves. Which is entirely what's wrong with England. Too pragmatic, rigid and disciplined. Foden for me is the essential creative spark and should be in and around the box creating and causing mayhem. What a waste. He could do for us everything Griezmann does for France in a floating role. So I think predictably he just swaps out TAA for Gallagher or Wharton and just carries on stubbornly with the same approach because he doesn;t know how to do it any other way. We will carry on just solely trying to get the ball to Saka and Walker as directly as possible so they can get it into the box for Kane and Bellingham from the right. While carrying zero threat down the left due to a right footed left back and a player stuck out there that doesn't want to be there and isn't particularly effective there. Anyway..... Here's hoping for a massive turnaround and the bloke throwing caution to the wind for once."

"Southgate is fraud who has been bigger up by the press. Stripped down to the facts it’s not such a great record. 2018 WC had a very fortunate draw and lost to the only decent team we played Croatia. 2020/1,euros . Played all but one game a home. Beat a very poor Germany but again lost to the only decent team we played Italy. 2022 ditto above but France . Truth is our record against the top teams is very poor. To win a major tournament you need to beat at least 2 top teams . England have never been up to it."

"Was really tough on Croatia, old Slav must have been beside himself. Personally, assuming England wake up I'd rather play Italy in the QF, a game against Croatia or the Swiss would have been a bit underwhelming, that said the Swiss def have a chance against Italy."

"Luka Modric take a bow. It's probably the last we'll see of him on the international stage. Heartbreak for Croatia, maybe a slim chance of R16 but over the 3 games they dont look like they deserve to go through."

"The reason media outlets say such cretinous things as VAR didn't look at it is because the highly paid pundits don't understand how it works, so the myth gets propagated. They look at everything. They try to determine whether or not a mistake has been made without interrupting play. Sometimes (or if you're a cսnt at Stockley Park, often) they have to ask the ref to hold up play while they come to their conclusion"

"Massive Attack 4:06 Mon Jun 24 Such a prick. Half the country. What a cսnt. I don't know anyone that called for TAA to be playing in midfield for England. Why would they? We have Rice, Bellingham and Foden. We don't play a traditional flat four, if we did them maybe TAA would be a right midfield option.... But we don't. Where the fuck did people expect him to play? Nobody I know wanted TAA to play. It's a fucking vanity project which has gone horribly wrong because England don't play like Liverpool with players pushing on and turning the opponent around. We play boring tik a taka which is easy to defend and so TAA is nullified as he can't drop balls into space. Sadly, Southgate is a weasel and so he is covering his shitty mistakes by telling the players we are all going mental back home. Reality is, we aren't, just raising sensible and reasonable concerns with totally obvious mistakes. To say half the country wanted TAA is a fucking kop out and a cowards answer."

"Oh dear, it's Rice's turn today to prove he's just as thick as pig shit and thin skinned as Bowen was in his press conference. https://x.com/itvfootball/status/1805134429070799322 Half the Country?? I for one don't rate Arnold, think he's vastly overrated and a one trick pony who's a jack of all trades, master of none. This precious Squad is starting to lose it, if biting this much on what reasonable criticisms are made about their performances so far, for all the talent we have to call upon."
