Tim Steidten - Confirmed
"OS Tim Steidten appointed West Ham United Technical Director West Ham United is delighted to announce the appointment of Tim Steidten as the Club’s Technical Director. Steidten will be responsible for the Club's overarching player recruitment strategy and scouting department, working closely with Manager David Moyes and Sporting Director Mark Noble. The Technical Director role has been implemented as part of the Club’s continued growth strategy and comes at a key moment in West Ham United’s history, with the Hammers’ victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League earlier this month securing a third successive season in European competition. One of the game’s most-admired football administrators, 44-year-old Steidten brings his own added experience of European football to East London, having previously fulfilled a similar role with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in his native Germany, at a time when the Hammers are enjoying a sustained period of success at both first team and Academy level. Arriving at Leverkusen from Werder Bremen in June 2019, Steidten was responsible for overseeing a pivotal period in the Club’s history, with his data-led approach to scouting yielding some immediate positive results in the transfer market, recruiting a number of unheralded gems, before nurturing them into highly-coveted stars. His arrival is set to complement the strong existing UEFA Europa Conference League winning squad on and off the pitch, with further significant experience and expertise. Moyes said: “On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to welcome Tim to the West Ham United family. He has a strong track record in elite level football and we’re really looking forward to working with him.” Joint-Chair David Sullivan said: “Our goal when we became custodians of West Ham United and moved to London Stadium was to bring silverware to this incredible Club and to regularly compete in European football. We’ve enjoyed some fantastic times in recent seasons, and we aim to continue to grow and evolve across all areas of the Club. Tim’s appointment is key to our wider plans to drive our football strategy forward. We are delighted to welcome such a well-respected name in the game to the Club.” Steidten said: “I am extremely proud to be joining West Ham United, at such an exciting time in this Club’s incredible history. Building on the Club’s recent European success, there is already a fantastic team in place, but also so much ambition – from the Board, the Manager, his staff and the players – to continue succeeding, developing and growing. I cannot wait to play a key part in that. Come on you Irons!”"

"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
Well he isn’t far off with 5 goals and 6 assists I would also say he has only really come alive half of the season so next season could well get 10 and 10
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"""When Moyes first signed Paqueta, he admits that he intended on using him as the attacking midfielder, but has altered things recently to allow him to play in his preferred deeper role, where he often frequents for Brazil’s national team. “When we bought Lucas, we looked at him as more of a No 10. We tried to bring in someone who could give us a link between the midfield and forward players and I still think it may be,” said Moyes. “But his feeling is, if you look at where he's played for Brazil, it's tended to be Casemiro and Paqueta (in midfield) and Neymar getting the No 10 role. Lucas Paqueta was slightly deeper. So we've tried to give him the opportunity to play slightly deeper where he's played for Brazil. “I'll be honest, we brought him for eight to ten goals, for eight to ten assists. But if you're asking me how he's doing, he's settling in much better, he's playing better in games. We're playing him more like a No 8 if you want to call it that, alongside Dec. But the fact is, yeah, we hoped he would get us goals or add assists.”"
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"""There’s little doubt that Paqueta came up as a potential signing only after bids had gone in for Raphina, Phillips and Onana"" Raphina & Phillips bids were in January and of course Leeds weren't going to sell then. The Paqueta thing could well have been going on for months, just because it isn't on your fav website doesnt mean nothing has happened. They'll have been sounding out everyone on the list for months. He'd have been scouted multiple times and watched on tapes endlessly. I would wager Moyes has watched him hundreds of times. as for this: ""Moyes even commented on it being a surprise to him."" did he??"
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"Moyes the summer after his return here, on having the final say on transfers: ""I wouldn’t do the job if I didn’t have the final say. I’m too experienced. I wouldn’t be in a situation where if I wasn’t going to get that opportunity. I wouldn’t do it. ""We lose our jobs by our decisions and I want it to be that way where if I don’t do the job well enough I want it to be because of my decisions, that’s the way I want it."""
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"Of course Moyes had seen Paqueta play because he would have seen him when we played them last season. But there’s a huge difference between watching our side beat opponents and noticing what position someone of no interest at the time plays in. There’s little doubt that Paqueta came up as a potential signing only after bids had gone in for Raphina, Phillips and Onana. There’s also no doubt that Moyes tried Paqueta in a deeper role months after playing him as a creative midfielder and that Moyes even commented on it being a surprise to him."
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"you think David Moyes had never seen Lucas Paqueta play before or had any idea of where/how he plays? the same David Moyes who said this back in september : “I’ve been really pleased with what we’ve done - we’ve added some really good players,” he said. “We need to give them time of gel but, on paper, they look good signings. They are hungry players that I’m hoping will improve.”"
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
It seems incredible to me that after years of blaming Sullivan for making poor signings we now blame Moyes entirely. HammersChat have made the point that Moyes 1st choices were Nunez and Broja for striker but we got Scamacca. Raphina and Phillips from Leeds then when that failed Onana who got a better offer from Everton. We ended up with a Brazilian creative that Moyes was surprised to find out was a DM. Plus we’ve signed 2 strikers that didn’t suit Moyes game plan and a left wingback as our LB’s successor. Seems to me it has Sullivan’s fingerprints all over the last windows. Might also be why Sullivan didn’t sack Moyes earlier this year if it’s Sullivan’s fault we have poorly planned squad…
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"Oh and a Brand Ambassador in the Media, i.e. our Roy Keane, Micah Richards, Alan Shearer etc. I would go for Joe Cole or Jimmy Bullard."
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
We need: - A Director of Football - A Head of Recruitment - A Sporting Director - A Head of the Academy / Player Development - A CEO / VP to replace Brady - to drive commercial supremacy

"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
Saw a rumour noble might move from sporting director to player/academy liaison Maybe there is a whole structure change this summer
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"It's well known that Moyes insists on having the final say on transfers, and he's admitted to ignoring recommendations from Newman (eg Julian Alvarez), so I don't know why anyone would need to ask where the responsibility lies. You might blame Newman for Paqueta and Scamacca, who really don't fit in with the way Moyes likes to play, but I could see that from watching 10 minute clips of them both before they came, so I don't see how Moyes couldn't. Seems more likely that they were bought because Moyes wanted to play a different way, as the counter-attacking style was no longer working, but in the end he didn't know how to change things up. Would be interesting to know if Newman is actually involved in transfer fee and player salary negotiations, because I don't think he did a great job there, if so."
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"Be good to see a Job Description. Who has been responsible for recruitment this past twelve months, Moyes, Newman or the master manipulator sullivan? If the latter and he intends to remain then little point in bringing anyone else in but certainly get shot of Newman who failed whatever his role was. Until sullivan puts his toys away and steps back (or preferably leaves) then whoever else comes in will have little or no chance of sorting recruitment."

They could always kick Moyes upstairs where he can do less damage.

"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
Lee dykes of Brentford apparently been spoken to… Atleast we are casting the net wide and talking to some decent candidates
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
One we have been linked with… https://www.foottheball.com/news/who-is-paul-mitchell-sporting-director-football-monaco-career-recruitment/ Apparently been watching games recently with Noble.
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"A director of football and a sporting director are basically the same thing under different titles and both mainly oversee the transfers process. According to the article Rob Newman is leaving. It seems him and Moyes have a very good relationship but unfortunately fucked up the transfers in the summer. It seems that the director of football will be coming in to help nurture Noble as, although he has settled well, he is inexperienced. Noble is by all accounts going to be more involved in the youth set up. This would all indicate that responsibility for transfers is being taken away from Moyes and I guess we have to wait to see if that means he is on his way out or will retract one of his conditions for coming back."

"We have a manager, a sporting director, this Rob Newman as recruitment and scouting director and now we are going to have a director of football? I know what the manager does, and would have thought he also has a hand in recruiting and scouting but call me a thick cսnt as I‚Äôm scratching my head as to what the sporting (Noble) and the director of football actually do day to day?"

"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
Agree. Sullivan will still be pulling the strings and meddling when he sees fit
"Re: Director of football, anyone?"
"We can get all sorts of different people in with different titles, but nothing will change until David Sullivan leaves. The very last signing we made was a 'gift' from the owner to the manager that doesn't fit into our style whatsoever"
