Windows January Window

Post Pub Bigot »

I don't often take notice of the windows, mainly because most of the players linked are paper-talk, ITK nonsense or fan speculation, however, there's lots of talk about unsettled players in the side, so we could see several players move on.

Soler, Fullkrug and Rodriques apparently haven't settled in London so I would imagine they'd be looking to move on. It's more difficult in Fullkrug's case as his injury doesn't seem to have a return date, which is a very typical thing to happen.

Apparently the player signing reigns will be taken out of the hands of Steitden, as the power hungry midget blames him for our failed season so far, not himself for employing someone completely until to manage in the PL, and the focus could be on Championship players. To be a little balanced, we have signed some very good players from the second division and it is a gold mine if you know what you're looking for.

Then there's Paqueta. He's having a stinker of a season and he should be moved on if we can, but I doubt there will be any takers until his case is resolved. Is there a confirmed date for his hearing?

More importantly, what do we need? A striker should be a top priority, even if it's a loan with an option to buy. The Big German might not be back again and Antonio is less a cart-horse and more a Jackass and reliably unreliable. Some pace in midfield to support Alvarez or Soucek and a new goalie. Fabianski as good as he is too old to start and Alfie Tits is shit, in my opinion.

I don't watch a great deal of neutral football anymore, so I'm not offering names, but for the TV scouts, bartsoolers and Football Manager aficionados, who's worth the club pursuing?

I just don’t get how you can get the striker situation so wrong. Mind you, we get a lot wrong.

I would think it’s essential to bring in a center forward in Jan with Antonio out.

Need another center half too. Stavros doesn’t cut it, he’s nowhere near Prem quality.

central mid, left back and goalkeeper can wait till the summer.

Dont be surprised if Jan is another Dud though. We could end up with a loan or two and nothing else.

Ferguson on loan could be a good option as we are not getting Ollie Watkins.
Luiz on loan would definitely upgrade our midfield too.
Will either happen? Fuck knows.

I don't really want anyone as the season is done, so what's the point? But I suppose Ferguson could be interesting. Reset in the summer.

As much as I love to see an academy player coming through, Marshall is hardly ripping up trees at Huddersfield with 3 goals in 17, so he's certainly not the answer.

This is where Tim S should be earning his money and uncover a hidden gem, though his recent record has been very disappointing.

A Villa mate reckons that Duran will be their number 1 striker very soon, so maybe a cheeky bid for Watkins.

The January transfer window is coming

Post Full Claret Jacket »

Mods scrap this if their is a similar thread -

The January transfer window is swiftly approaching and rumours are circling of ins and outs.
What are your top priorities to address in this side? Are there any from the Championship worth a shout, who do you think is expendable and needs to go.
Here is my list;
Need:
  • A striker (what a surprise)
  • A mobile midfielder that gets stuck in
  • A left back
  • A replacement for Kudus - more creative player who can shoot, take players on and sees passes.
Heading out:
Aguerd - Not sure on the terms of his loan but if we can sell and get entirely off the books and give us some cash then good

Rodríguez - He was a free and is actually not a bad player but not physical or quick enough for this league. He also hasn't settled so a low fee to cover the signing on fee we paid him is fair enough.

Ings - If we can get anything and shift his wage to allow others to come in that would be good. He isn't the worst player and has made things happen in games but injury prone and not suited to how we set up

Kudus - The one I don't want to go skill wise but it's inevitable someone will trigger his release clause and I'm pretty sure he wants to be playing in Europe. Doesn't seem to be a team player and is ambitious. Fair play to him, he's a talented lad and has no deep connection to our club.

Irving - Pretty sure someone would give him the playing time he deserves at a level suited to his talents. At 24 he's not a kid anymore and wasting his career just watching football each week.

Guilerme - Doesn't get a sniff of game time. I was expecting more given the hype. Needs to go out on loan somewhere. No idea if he's settled in England. Just seems a strange purchase given our need to rebuild a first team.

There is a few others I'm not sure about but you don't totally decimate a team mid season. We still need squad players to fill the spaces left by some of these. I think unless there are very good offers you keep many of these around. I do think part of our lack of cohesion this year is the number of changes we made in the summer with players not used to the league.

End of the day if it's as bad as it looks to be with Striker injuries, on top of the news today regarding Antonio, I can't imagine Huddersfield saying no to an emergency recall under the circumstances. It's not like they haven't already had almost half a season out of him.

And yes, fully aware it's a desperate move to make but then we are in a desperate situation and he would only be expected to come off from the Bench. However we are running out of bodies that can perform that role if Ings is out too.

I also hate seeing our wide Forwards plonked there ill equipped to play the role sufficiently.

Pretty sure we can't recall these players on season long loans. Can only come back if the loaning club and us mutually agree a termination.

Can't see it either way.  Bowen and/or Kudus can play up top and would be favoured over Marshall, with Fullkrug back and Ings not showing signs of anything major.

Plus they'll have to push the boat out now and go get a striker anyway.

Douglas Luiz unhappy at Juve. Possibly available in Jan? Latest rumour.

If he’s the one that played at Villa last 2 seasons we should go all out. He’s got the legs and skill we need in centre mid.  Imo

mind u wont be that cheap so will need Aguerd to be sold if poss. Sullivan will say no unless he’s on Salthouse or Silkmans books?

Exile

My hope is if we did go for him and got him, we could then brainwash him in to staying should he perform. Sure Brighton could ask for too much but if he really enjoyed his time here it would apply pressure on them to sell. I reckon Ferguson would love his time here if that was the case.

Really like the look of Evan Ferguson but there's no way Brighton will let him go on a permanent unless we offer silly money. But a loan would help to resurrect this season and give us time to consider who to go for next summer.

Well he will be spearheading Botafogo front line in the Libertadores final this Saturday. He will be sold off in the Winter. But not for £34 million. And definitely not to us.!

I'm not a fan of comparing players, particularly from way back, all players have their own attributes and personality. what you have described him as you could say about many forwards, and Ashton wasn't that clinical, his goal record wasn't great at all, but then again you can say that about a lot of number 9's, they bring a lot more apart from goals. Ferguson didl ook good a couple of seasons ago, very good in fact, but has had injuries and down the pecking order at Brighton now I believe, so would have risked attached. Anyway, I'll leave it there, as guess what, I doubt we will sign him anyway.

Because he's of a similar stocky build that can hold off defenders bringing others in to play, decent in the air, score with either foot, intelligent, clinical, can score can also score skillful goals at the highest level. Dean Ashtonesque and a player that would do well for us I reckon...

If we did manage to get him in the January window in his early 20s, it would be even more reminiscent of when Ashton rocked up back in January 2006 around a similar age.

Reading that even if the big Kraut is available and over his injury come January, we may well get rid anyway!!!!

We really are jinxed when it comes to strikers arnt we? did Sullivan shoot an Albatross or something?

All those links with Duran, and him by all account keen to come and us not matching the valuation by what was it 2 or 3 million?? Peanuts really at this level but doubt he is available anymore unless it's crazy money.

Oh well Antionio and Ings it is by the looks of things, and then this Brazilian lad, see him on the bench but is he really the goods or not, surely, he has "acclimatized" by now, has he done anything of note with the reserves or is he perhaps not the sensation he was billed as?

Havnt got the foggiest of any available strikers but im not sure i trust Tim the recruitment "expert" that much right now, but keep the faith i suppose, see if he can pull a Rabbit out of his Scarf......

Go get him, Steidten and it'll set us up for a long time to solve the No. 9 position we all want resolving properly....
What the fuck is a Dean Ashton vibe, you weirdo?? Completely different times, different player. Didn't you also say that Delap reminded you of Ashton? Were they ''vibes'' also? All very fucking strange.
