Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"As some have mentioned. This is a battle for UEFA's CL format. The big clubs are going nuclear here to own that competition. It all depends on how ""allied"" the domestic leagues are with UEFA and FIFA. One version has the end result of the domestic leagues and FIFA cutting UEFA adrift to save themselves. The other version has them all going to war against the SL. I'd love the latter personally. I'd ban all the clubs today out of their current competitions. Let them not kick a ball till august or whatever. No euro's for any of their players. See how they like them onions.. And the funny thing is, people will still watch the games and the tournament, because people like football. I don't give a fuck if I never see Barca. Man U, Liverpool etc ever again personaly."

"Of course this is a different kettle of fish, but that doesn't take away the fact The Prem League changed the game forever and not in a good way."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Comparisons with the Premier League are erroneous. It's chalk and cheese. The PL still had promotion and relegation. Millions still filtered through from the PL to lower leagues.

"Football was always the working mans game, its disgusting we have got to the stage with the ESL in the background. No wonder so many fans have jacked it in."

"The money involved is astronomical. The consequences have to match that. Russ spelt it out. They need to be confined to the tiny bubble they have created for themselves. Hermetically sealed within it. I don't think that it will provide any sustainable level of entertainment and therefore it won't pay for itself. Let them go, make sure they only get to play each other in future though."

I just wish I'd seen the same level of outrage when the corrupt Premier League was formed.

"Russ of the BML 11:10 Mon Apr 19 You have completely misunderstood me. Fully back what Neville is saying and believe he has morals. Kaiser Zoso 11:19 Mon Apr 19 ‘Money talks, and you can keep all of your bullshit about 'not everyone is greedy'. These clubs will receive an initial amount of £3,000,000,000’ That is ten times more than what they would actually get. It would be 300 million. Not 3 billion."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
One senior executive at a Premier League club outside the big six has told the Guardian he believes the League will move to kick out the clubs involved in the European Super League and that they will continue with their plans regardless.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"I reckon this is being used as a threat to UEFA.....the compromise will be the champions league being re-designed to look more like the proposed model of the ESL. But if they do go then they wont be kicked out from the premier league....they are too valuable and powerful to the premier league brand and tv deals and they know it They will all be remaining in the premier league with even more financial resources than they already have.......no one will be able to compete its a joke biggest winners here are Arsenal, its a mid table side being given a golden ticket back to the big time.....no wonder they didnt sack Arteta as they knew champs league qualification wasnt necessary"

"All of the clubs chairmen have resigned from their cushy roles at UEFA already. If they don't go through with it, they've fucked themselves right up."

"I guess it all depends on the fans reaction to it, all well and good receiving the initial ""joining"" fee, but if the fans boycott it, they'll be fucked."

"kaiser, I've no doubt that's the financial projections that they're predicting but I just don't see how it's sustainable even with the interest from asia. the pay per view costs will be extortionate to facilitate such sums going to each team every season"

"ludo21 10:55 Mon Apr 19 I don't think that much TV revenue will be lost. Sure, in the short-term as the Chinese & South-east Asian markets only want to ""follow"" successful teams, but in such a ""Super"" league, success for these teams will be a much rarer commodity. They will soon get bored at watching ""their"" team get tonked on a regular basis and seek out other games to watch, other teams to make ""theirs"". They, too will see through the hype."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"I’ll be very surprised if this actually a goer, and the legal wrangling will probably make it drag on forever, but I still hope it does happen. They didn’t read the room here, and I’m a bit surprised by the universal condemnation. Nobody likes the teams involved beyond their own fans, and even they are calling this out. Great stuff."

"360 If you are a foreign owner and have bought a EPL club as an investment or a PR exercise, then the local fans who come through the gate are a liability who the owner has zero affiliation with. I don't like Gold or Sullivan, but they at least have ties to the club and are supporters."

"Money talks, and you can keep all of your bullshit about 'not everyone is greedy'. These clubs will receive an initial amount of £3,000,000,000 That is more than six thousand times as big as Chelsea's current turnover. That goes up to a total of £10,000,000,000 over the initial commitment period, whatever that is. Equal to seven thousand times our turnover. These clubs will be able to afford to double triple or quadruple their annual wage bill and it still won't touch the sides."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
UEFA and FIFA can show their commitment to the good of foitball by not allowing any player taking part in this ESL faces an IMMEDIATE and indefinite ban from representing their countries at any level of the sport. Lets see how many players really care.
