But this 53-year-old white man arrested is increasingly looking like it wasn't the driver but was arrested for something else. I could be wrong.

If that is the case and the police have deliberately mislead everyone (along with most of the media who are currently blazoning that detail on their front pages) it's going to badly affect trust which is already not good.

If that’s the case there will be some sort of CCTV to back that up. I know that area well and would assume it’ll have cameras there which will corroborate whether there was an incident beforehand. However, why I don’t think that’s likely is the footage I’ve seen he ploughs into one group, turns and then speeds up and hits more people.

I am sure he knows why they do it. The question is, is that right? It makes the police seem politicised at a time when there are accusations that they are ‘two tier’ in their approach: lenient on minorities and tough on native whites.
