Re: Fulham vs West Ham United | EPL | Match Thread | 14.9.2024
Disappointing starting line up. Very negative with the 3 DMs, especially with Paqueta and Soler on the bench. First half performance was, quite frankly, a disgrace and was as turgid as anything tossed out under Moyes. As the DM's were slowly withdrawn we looked better and eventually with Paqueta, Soler and Summerville on the pitch we looked like a team that was there to win a game of football. Glad we got the point. But much to ponder on.

On top of that Kudus might be a problem too, not just with the old WHO obsessed argument about a player being played out of position, but he was sulking on Saturday. While he is a very good player, he ain't fucking good enough to sulk, he's achieved nothing in the game, but now thinks he's Mo Salah? I think a bit of good press has gone to his head. Improve your goals/assist ratio, son, improve your final ball/pass, get your head up instead of running into blind alley's, and then you can throw your toys out.

I don't mind some of the players we've bought, as it goes.
But I'm really struggling to see how Fullkrug improves our striker situation, and having a right back fill in to play as a left back rarely works.
It's so frustrating knowing we've needed to do something in those 2 positions but haven't and now it could come back to bite us on the bum.

Yes, it is indeed a huge failure. As I have pointed out many times on this forum, the summer transfer window was an unmitigated disaster.

We've needed a striker and left back for so fucking long that it's blindingly obvious to anyone who has taken a passing interest in us over the last couple of years.
It's a huge failure that we're stuck in the same place especially after spending £150m.

Too right an all considering he's been sitting on £120k a week at 32yo with 1 year left and we were supposed to be getting in a younger and better Striker (which didn't materialise Duran).
Sometimes opportunities arise unexpectedly and its up to that player and manager to make the most of it when it happens.

I think Ings is a good striker if he’s in a side ready to play good football.

It also doesn't help that when we do get a good one we fail to get the best our of them, leave as soon as they arrive before winning a European Cup straight away elsewhere.
The Striker position will always be our achilles heel at this Club under Sullivans reign.
I felt that Mexican Gimenez could have been a good fit for us but didn't seem to go for him.
Fingers crossed Fullkrug comes good for the time he's here.

I'm not against Ings getting a start against Chelsea, but it probably won't work out, then what, give someone else a go for the next game, and on it goes. We still have the same problem with not properly addressing the number 9 role.

Oh, and...
Cresswell is gone (so much so that he'd rather bring on a less than average right back and switch the incumbent as opposed to put him on)
You dont have to be a miracle worker
The same trick that worked well in the Bournemouth win and clean sheet and Wan-Bissaka played well on the left deputising for Cresswell who picked up an injury in that warm-up and Coufal comes on yesterday, helps us to not concede and plays his part in quickly throwing the ball back in to play so Bowen can hit the cross first time for us to equalise as Cresswell has only just returned from injury at 34yo. That bit was actually good management but I agree on the other issues he needs addressing.
The miracle work was clearly about suddenly making us a shit hot Footballing side after having to play anti-football for so long.

Re: Fulham vs West Ham United | EPL | Match Thread | 14.9.2024
I'm hoping to see Danny Ings start in the next match up top. Now he's got himself off the mark, I'd like to see him carry on until he plays himself out the side with Fullkrug to come back in from the bench after his recent injury. I think it would do them both some good, for Ings to continue where he left off at Fulham but also for Fullkrug to watch from the sidelines to get a better feel of the pace and what's needed in the Premier League. I don't want to see him chucked straight back in to the side especially after an injury to his achilles.
Ings does have a wealth of Premier League experience and when in form is a decent Striker sniffing out chances in the box when in form and it was vintage Ings the way he scored his clinical effort late on. He will stretch defences if given the supply. Let Fullkrug have more time to settle in and come off the bench for the next game or so.
Ings clearly believes in himself and probably doesn't feel he got a fair crack of the whip from Moyes, so he seems like he's got a big point to prove he's still got it as a decent Premier League Striker now he chose to stick around.
Antonio has had his chance now and played his way out the Team so can't have any complaints.

Judging by the highlights, the goal was on Mavrapanos. He was way deeper than the rest of the back 4 and played Smith-Rowe onside.

As fans we knew we needed a new left back, a new right back (possibly 2), 2 new CBs (assuming Zouma and Aguerd were going) a commanding midfielder, a left winger and 2 young, fast centre forwards.
We got one right back, no left back, one CB who isn't being played, no midfielder capable of commanding a game, a left winger who isn't getting much game time, a German Danny Ings and a THIRD right winger who isn't even in the matchday squad. I mean, fancy spending £20m+ to buy an untried teenager who plays in the same position as your two best players?
We are the only club that repeatedly spends £100m and looks the fucking sameGood to see that others are finally waking up to what I said all summer. The transfer window was a disaster as we didn't address the gaping holes in the squad. The signing of Fulkrug for £27 million is an absolute piss take.
I tink many fans got hoodwinked by the number of signings and the money spent but didn't criticially analyse the quality of signings. Chelsea have sgown in recent times that spending a fortunate doesn't guarantee success.
'Guru Tim' and 'loser Lop' are frauds in my opinion.
Relegation battle ahead. No one is waking up to your way of thinking you cretin! The squad is infinitely better than when Moyes left....Please someone shut this idiot down... hes clearly on a piss take or some spursy troll....

Re: Fulham vs West Ham United | EPL | Match Thread | 14.9.2024
I put more of the blame on Mavropanos for me failing to close his legs and being far too deep keeping Rowe onside. Smith-Rowe was Mavropanos man to keep a check on playing centrally and he couldn't deal with him at all for the goal. Sooner Todibo is fully integrated in to the side the better.
Re: Fulham vs West Ham United | EPL | Match Thread | 14.9.2024
On a positive note I really like Summerville.
I think he is gonna become a fan favorite, he looks tidy on the ball, makes good decisions, pretty quick too. Glad we got him.
Kilman too is showing his quality, solid defender all round, good at defending corners, looks comfortable with the ball at his feet, doesn’t panick and certatainly Isn’t slow or clumsy. Only criticism is he could be more dominant in the box when we have a corner.
Bassaka has to be the best addition to the team so far. I was calling out for a new RB while most were calling for a striker and a left winger. Glad we finally got ourselves one. He’s a bit too one footed, but he is a presence.
My first impression on Soler is a good one too, looks like he likes to get stuck in, once he acclimates to the pace of the Prem game he will be hard to keep out of the side.
So we have some very good additions, I’m looking forward to watching them play.

Missed the game as I’m in Bologna at the moment (highly recommended).
Sounds like the starting lineup was all wrong again and the performance was flat. I will give it until 10 or so games before making any judgement .

Really no excuse now for not giving both Kudus and Paqueta the freedom to roam behind a proper striker (Fulkrug or Ings) and ahead of Alvarez or Rodriguez.

Re: Fulham vs West Ham United | EPL | Match Thread | 14.9.2024
The worry is the football is still shit despite fortunes being thrown at him, and he's still picking players that should only be squad/bench options. To prefer a player in the key link (10) role that struggles to pass the ball, when he has two far better technical players on the bench is mismanagement. Arguably, he also shouldn't be using two defensive midfielders so we're back to a manager that doesn't trust his players, one of the jock bastard's biggest faults. He could/should also be using Kudus in one of those roles behind the striker rather than being buried on the left wing.
