I remember many dead against him arriving and was 1 of those who said he'd pleasantly surprise people and he didn't disappoint with his contribution to the Team that included helping us to win Silverware. It makes sense as 4th choice injury cover safety net to see the season out. No big harm in doing it.

Feels like it's building up to that moment with Clubs preparing the musical chairs for the day. No doubt Sullivan will be the last big kid running around desperately trying to reach any remaining high chair available but we live in hope.

It was pretty much required but not my favourite if I am honest.

But another I have mixed feelings about:

Matt Kemp? on Claret and Hugh mentioned Ismael Kone, on loan as an option from Marseille.
All the talent in the world (see him against France in an international friendly last summer) and great physical profile but worried about his work ethic/relationship with his managers.

I said buy him as one for the future before he went to Watford. Not sure these days.

Not a fan of this.

I did watch him a bit. Canadian Liverpool youth Liam Millar (now out with an ACL at Hull) was at Basel the same time as Cabral.

Cabral dominated in the Swiss League in a lot of ways because of he was physically superior to the opposition. He also benefitted from some, again, dominant, at that level, wing play (Millar who had a really good year with Preston last year, Stocker a Swiss international, and Zhegrova who is now the second best player on the Lille side that is doing so well in the Champions League.)

Not sure he will find either of those benefits with us at a Premier League level and he hasn't covered himself in glory at levels in between.

One of WHO's favourite phrases - hope I am wrong.

3 and a bit days left. Hmmm, a loan for Ferguson with perm signing option in summer in a “play now pay later” deal? Would Brighton entertain that with supposedly Chelsea now making a move? I suppose the player will have a say and we have to hope he sees Potter as being key to getting his career back on track. But still plenty of time for Sullivan to do his “big shot” brinkmanship routine and mess it all up.

At this point though no one would be surprised if we came up empty handed in this window.

Watched him plenty when he played for Fiorentina the season he scored the joint most in the Europa Conference 2023 run to the Final - I'm sure others were paying attention at the time as well. Fergusons still the main Striker target I want out of the two.

I've just been reading a Benfica forum. They agree that selling Cabral for €18M is a bargain. For them. Not us. They're VERY negative about him.

I’ve seen nothing but negative comments about Cabral. Sounds like Benfica fans can’t wait for him to go. I’ve been very underwhelmed when I have watched him (rarely).

I don’t pay any attention to his Basel record. Albian Ajeti has a remarkably similar record there and he was absolutely dreadful.

Have you watched him aplenty? Otherwise I might argue you’re backing the wrong horse again!

Let's face it, if he's playing and scoring loads for a top club in Portugal, he's probably got allot bigger clubs after him.

This is the kind of player you can get a good deal, without wasting too much money if it doesn't work out.

If Potter and his new mate think that he's got what it takes, or think it's worth a risk, then that's good enough for me.

Not many clubs can keep two or three top quality strikers happy. As you say, they thrive on confidence. Scoring breeds that confidence. And not playing means less goals usually and so less confidence.
It would be nice to have one quality goalscorer let alone two!

It was me questioning Cabral’s goalscoring record in the better leagues that he’s played in. I’ll happily admit that I looked only at goals per appearances and it’s not impressive. As you say, if he’s actually only started approximately half of the games that he’s featured in, that possibly indicates a different issue. Why did he start so few of these games?
I won’t say I don’t think we’ll sign him because I have no idea who we are actually looking to sign, if anyone. But it’s underwhelming.
