"Not seen this Jota chap play. Had a good season in Scotland then chased the money to Saudi. I get it at 34 in the twilight of your career, not when you're best years are ahead of you if you have real ambition. 200k a week sounds bonkers to me. I'd much rather Jack Clarke of Sunderland. Is the Championship any worse than the SPL? I dont think so. Buying from the championship has served us well in the past."

"MSN West Ham reach agreement with Jota According to journalist Santi Aouna, West Ham and Jota have now reached an agreement over a London Stadium transfer. He adds that the Hammers and Al-Ittihad are holding “positive talks”, with the player waiting to travel to England. Things haven’t exactly gone to plan in Saudi Arabia for the 24-year-old following a big-money transfer from Celtic. In total, he has only made 11 appearances for Al-Ittihad, playing just 511 minutes of action. However, West Ham only have to look at his time in Scotland to see what an impressive player Jota is, with the winger netting 28 times and registering 26 assists in 83 Celtic games. Jota also came in for praise from Alan Hutton while at Celtic, with the former full-back waxing lyrical over the winger. “He’s still developing. He’s probably only going to get better, I think he can get better. What he’s done this season has been incredible, for him to come from his parent club, where he’s not really been playing. Benfica are a big club in their own right but to come to another club where there’s a lot of pressure, to perform at such a young age, he’s stood up to that task. “Jota’s that player fans want to see. He’s exciting, he takes people on, he makes things happen, he scores goals and ticks all the boxes.”"

"Jota vs Osman (based on YT clips I know!): Jota has already played in big games, played for a demanding club in Celtic, scored against Madrid etc. And more importantly, knows where the goals is. Osman looks fast, but on the clips needs work on the final ball, accuracy. I think Bennys problem has always been final ball and accuracy in front of goal. Jota looks a better choice from the clips anyways."

"Manuel 2:41 Tue Jan 30 He does try to get to the back stick when the opposite winger is attacking. Moyes will probably tell him to sit back and defend because we dont want more than two players the halfway line at a time. However running past Scottish cloggers is one thing, running past the likes of Kyle Walker is quite another. His Barnet is so aerodynamically poor it would also be a hindrance."

"We should go for a player who Bournemouth want shot of and is only attracting interest from the Championship? Think we should be aiming higher than that. Haven't seen Jota other than YouTube, but I have to say I'm scratching my head why we're going for a diminutive winger who seems to lack strength. We just need a grafter who's as strong as an ox, that will suit us best under this manager. Apparently Phillips is costing us around half a million a week throughout his loan. Wow! The manager is a seriously lucky man, a squad with 3 superstars in, a top notch Mexican international centre mid and a top notch left back, £100mil worth of centre backs, a keeper on over £100k per week, and now a bonafide England international from Man City. I wonder what excuses will be rolled out when we're still the worst team to watch in the league?"

"Well, if Jota does come we can only hope and pray that he manages to confound all his critics by actually getting himself a decent haircut."

If Jota actually attacks his full back and looks to get into the box then he will be an upgrade on Benny.

"Nagel 2:13 Tue Jan 30 I expect Benny looks pretty good in his YouTube clips too. I've seen a bit of this bloke and he's lightweight, skillful, quick but not overly so. Good right foot. Unforgivably shit Barnet. I honestly dont think he's much better than Benny or Cornet. He may be slightly more effective because he hasn't yet had his career ruined by Moyes. Hasn't played any football though. Unimpressed. Forest want Cornet on loan apparently. Ho ho."

Lee Trundle 1:27 Tue Jan 30 Can he not play on the left? Bowen could.... For me just a better option than Jota if we are losing Benrahma and Cornet. Hope we keep Cornet personally

"From what I've seen of Jota he looks far better than Benrahma. It's not just that he has much more pace, it's that he acts quicker too. When he gets the ball he seems to either run at speed into the dangerous areas and quickly pass it forward or shoot, or else he makes decent long balls from deep to his attacking teammates. Benrahma, on the other hand, tends to dilly dally about for so long that the opposition can park the bus by the time he finally does something with the ball."

"I think Jota is definitely worth a look on loan. If Fornals and Benrahma go, we clearly need someone (anyone!) who can play that position if Paqueta gets injured (not that I think he should be playing there, but he will be). In other news, I saw a tenuous article linking Steidten to Liverpool. Just another reason to move Moyes on if it were a factor for Stiedten leaving"

"Tend to agree with Vexed...don't think Jota gets in our team except as an impact sub at best. His best attribute will be being a threat on the counter with a ball into the channel as he has pace...but against a team sitting back against us (about half the league) would get bullied by defenders I suspect. Having said that, he'd be no less effective than Benrahma, and 4 years younger, so you can see why he's worth the punt on a loan deal. Shift Benrahma and Fornals, keep Cornet and bring in Jota. We clearly with the addition of Phillips won't be seeing Paqueta move back to the middle (Moyes will want at least one of Soucek and JWP in the team, so Paqueta will remain wide left for the forseeable), so whoever comes in for the left wing is only playing in cups, rotations, for the last 15 mins, or to cover injuries. On that basis, Cornet and Jota will do the job fine. Say what you like about Cornet, but when he's on the field he almost always is involved in chances being created (either for him or someone else). Something else...I think Emerson could be utilised centrally in the event we have another competent left winger. Carries the ball well, always looks to come inside rather than go round the outside, shifts the ball well. In Paqueta's absence and with us having no play maker, he's looked more useful up the field in making something happen than any of the other 'candidates'."

"Rossal 1:05 Tue Jan 30 ""David Brooks going on loan to Soton, surely we should of been sniffing at that?"" Brooks would never get in our team. He's a right winger, and there's no chance he'd be shifting Kudus or Bowen from there."

"Stubbo 12:33 Tue Jan 30 ""I'm sad the noise around Sugawara and Brocko has gone quiet...young, pacey full backs is so clearly something we're crying out for."" Me too. Especially Suguwara who to me looks a real talent and a proper player. I spoke to my source at the club yesterday and he said at the start of the window we were very keen on Suguwara and made formal contact. Initial terms were agreed informally but as the window progressed with it looking likely that Johnson wouldn't be moving, the club have said right back / wing back is not a priority in this window. Priority was midfield and attack. However, deal isn't dead and the club are still interested but moving the priority to the next window. You can understand that. All clubs running scared of FFP. And with Coufal and Johnson its not a priority for this window. But it is a real shame. Hopefully it ends up that we do get him as I think he would be a star in the PL. It just feels like the club have not made enough room for new signings. In my opinion Johnson, Cresswell, Antonio, Fornals and Benrahma all should've been moved out in this window."

"Surely they'll still be able to sell Jota after today, same as players can leave the PL when our window is shut. It's the buying teams window that's relevant"

"easthammer 3:38 Tue Jan 30 Regarding his football ambitions, I don't think it's like someone swapping the PL for China. He went from the shitty Scottish league to play alongside the likes of Benzema, Kante and Fabinho, and to play against the likes of Neymar, Mane, Ronaldo, Mahrez, and many more top players, all while earning £200k a week! In any case, you'd hope that we'd only be offering a loan with option to buy, which you'd think that they should accept, given his current situation of being ineligible to play for them."
