Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Disappointed this has died a death so quickly. A drawn out saga that saw vitriol towards 'the 6' grow and grow would have been my preferred option. Did we all see the Perez interview where he presents his deluded view of how they were going to save football? The man is unhinged.

Hermit Road 11:45 Wed Apr 21 You misunderstand Capitalism and its inherent tendency towards cartels and monopoly - You only have to look at disruptive tech start-ups to see this in action. It has always been the Capitalist way hence the need for regulation.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Super league is there for a long time. The champions league should be a competition consisting of the champions of every european league right? So how does it make sense that a 4th in the pl can become a champion of champions league while not even being the champion of his country? From 2024 onwards it's basically impossible for the ""super teams"" not to qualify for the cl. The super league is there."

"I'm really disappointed by this, was hoping they would all fuck off so we could have a real competitive league! If they want the CL to be more exciting, just go back to straight knock out and fuck the pointless group stages off. They were only introduced to protect the 'big' clubs anyway. It was laughable the 3rd placed in the league went into the Europa."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Has Levy apologized yet? Them being implemented is the best part of all this.

I'm just hoping the 14 are just as vindictive and self righteous as they were about Tevez.

"Welcome back into the European family. So that's it is it. The scousers going on like they had a gun to their heads (apt for that part of the world anyway) and its all OK cos we didn't really mean it, as you were. Bank robber bursts into the foyer of a bank shouting ""Give me all the money"" Unfortunately, two coppers either side of the door grab him before the robbery continues. Bank robber says ""h, sorry if I had known you were there I wouldn't have tried this, this time, obviously I need to plan this better for next time"" The coppers smile and say ""Well off you pop and we are just glad we foiled this attempt, no hard feelings, bye now"" Si niaeve to think they won the war, just won a battle, they will be much better prepared next time. Points deduction is the only thing they will understand, won't happen though"

"Anyone else notice that this has become a 'proposed' ESL rather than the fait accomplis it was on Sunday? The 6 owners are still lying and seeking advantage, in this case by seeking to avoid sanction."

"The acid test will be to see what sanctions UEFA and the Premier League bring upon those teams that took part in the revolution. I suspect that because of the continued power they wield then it will be a token fine and nothing more. Gutless clubs, gutless UEFA and gutless Premier League is my bet!"

"Do you think John Henry went into this 48 hrs ago with the goal of having to post that apology today and to become hated by his fan base? They got this very fucking wrong, and it is quite amusing, not sure it will change much though. We will continue to be mugged off by someone. The players are the ones that make me laugh, if they actually gave a shit they would sack off their fucking agents for a start."

"Liverpool owner John W Henry has apologised to the club's supporters for the ""disruption"" caused by the proposed European Super League (ESL). Henry took sole responsibility for the ""unnecessary negativity"", saying: ""In this endeavour I've let you down."""

Often easier/cheaper to simply kill the competition than try and keep out-performing it.

"As these teams are now ""back in the fold"" I assume they will be able to veto/contest any punishments handed down on them. The owners of these clubs knew exactly what they were doing and exactly where this would lead."

"Yeah, the confidential nature of plotting a coup restricts it to need to know, but the clubs representatives who did know, like Woodward at Man United, should have been able to provide an informed assessment of the likely reaction to the ESL unilaterally plotting to take control of the revenue streams and upping he drawbridge against anyone else joining in?"

"Ôø?Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to the pressure put on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations as was demonstrated today by a court decision to protect the Super League from third party actions.Ôø? If they are that convinced, why the need for a pre-emptive court order?"

"Fo 100% if the clubs won't ensure their own fans aren't getting shafted left right and centre then we have now seen government are prepared to step in, on this so maybe they'd do so for other issues. We don't have a normal customer /business telationship with our clubs and that emotional connection gets exploited time and time again. I'd like to see English clubs start following the German model of ownership. Don't see ut ever happening though."
