Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"This needs to be kept fresh in every football fan's mind for years to come, in a similar way to the memory of Tevez single-handedly saving us from relegation. There needs to be a clean break between the media and these clubs (communications departments) too, otherwise I'd expect spin to creep in suggesting that it was not the fault of the ""Big 6"" but the ""Little 14"", all along."

"Kaiser, you mean the Chairmen and CEOs? In all businesses the top men rely on experts to help them make decisions. Presumably they would have had to keep these ESL plans to themselves or it would have been leaked a lot sooner."

"""Was it Souness who raised the issue with these clubs representatives having had access to all Premier League information while plotting against them?"" To follow on from that, the websites and SOCIAL MEDIA attached to this Super League project were set up at the start of the season, so not only were they plotting agaisnt the Premier League doing all this, the clubs were probably taking the COVID money they were receiving (ones that needed it) to fund this plot, whilst laying off staff. It's not going to be pretty for them."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"goose 10:40 Wed Apr 21 The rules will change now for sure. UEFA, the domestic leagues and the FA's will now surely have written into rules that clubs will have to express an interest in joining another league two years before they leave. The will have to be transparent and register interest and any communication with anyone about a new league format or competition. They will have to first consult with supporter groups and managers / players before entering into talks and must receive over 50% support from supporter groups before entering discussions. I expect this to be the catalyst for many rule changes with very serious sanctions. These clubs have abused a lack of rules around this and so expect UEFA and all the bodies to quickly legislate this and stop it happening again. Unfortunately, what these clubs have done is the reverse of what they wanted and that is give UEFA even more power. This is a huge win for UEFA. Now that's not particularly a good thing and what makes this whole situation so ironic."

"Russ of the BML 10:37 Wed Apr 21 totally agree, when I first heard about this I thought they were either super confident of their position or really desperate. Turns out it must be the latter because they way they played this out was some of the worst PR I have seen in my life. Some of these clubs must be so fucked financially to try and pull this."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
One of the problems with a highly secretive operation such as this is that the pool of knowledge and expertise is severely reduced. When it mainly involves a bunch of Yank businessmen who know fuck all about football it's going to be doomed to failure.

"SurfaceAgentX2Zero 9:59 Wed Apr 21 You are right. The references to fans is simply a superficial and ridiculously transparent attempt to reconnect with a pissed-off fanbase. Levy can't even bring himself to issue an unqualified 'apology' to his fans. Of course the big six need to be punished for reasons stated. There also needs to be acknowledgement - not least from the sanctimonious Sky Sports including Neville and Carragher - that there is already a two-tier structure operating within the Premier League from which the 'Big Six' benefit. Fans, the media, the football authorities and the political establishment, that has suddenly woken up to the fact that fans also vote, need to ensure that the collapse of the Superleague should be the beginning of the story, not the end."

Was it Souness who raised the issue with these clubs representatives having had access to all Premier League information while plotting against them? That’s a powerful argument to impose severe sanctions on the bottle job six.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Keep an eye out for changes UEFA sneak through to the champions league that benefit the breakaway mob.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"They’ll get away with it for sure - maybe a strong worded reprimand and then we can all go back to normal and pretend this never happened. Until they think up another way to get a bigger share of the £££, maybe the new CL or the next TV deal. UEFA can fuck off taking the morale high ground as well, let’s start talking about the Qatar World Cup shall we??"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
My own personal opinion on punishment is that the owners of all of these clubs are deemed unfit for purpose and given their marching orders. Allow them 6 months to sell up and these clubs then have to bring in proper people that can demonstrate they understand the ethics of fair play and competition.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Historically, various fines have been dished out whether its FFP, Tevez, poaching managers etc, this is much bigger than all of those, the 14 need to stand together and make an example of the ""Big 6"""

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Fucking shambles. If this is an indictment of how these so called business executives prepare and communicate a venture of this magnitude then thank christ it never went ahead. And exactly why a group of the executives for these clubs have now resigned. The whole thing is embarrassing. Obviously they saw the pound notes and they cast such a huge shadow over proceedings they forgot to do some huge pieces of work before announcing this. Things like: Consult with managers and players of clubs before announcing it Consult with supporter groups Lay out a plan of how money generated can be invested in grassroots football. How money generated can be used for community projects like schools, under privileged kids, disabled sports / groups. How this affects the women's game How money generated will be used to assist lower league clubs across Europe What was the ESL's agenda and plan for racism, equality and diversity? ……. I could go on. You start putting stuff like that on the table and people may start taking you seriously. They may have had all this stuff but, if they did, then their communication team need fucking hanging."

"Surely if what they have done hasn't brought game into disrepute then i am stumped. Huge fines wouldn't hurt them, has to be points deductions Well actually a huge fine would hurt Spurs.....so they can get both :-)"

"I haven't spoke to a single football fan, including ones of these clubs, that don't think these teams deserve a harsh punishment, even if that meant relegation for own their team. Watch them get let off."

"ESL statement said this is paused, FFS, there needs to be action against all of them Throw them out of this season's European football and ban them for next season Get them to sign a legally binding contract stating that it won't happen again...or some such wording"

Yeah going back to the status quo - which in itself is fucking shit - will be hugely deflating.

Understood the Newcastle owners were rejected as they couldn't show enough separation between them and the Saudi rulers. Personally I think this action SHOULD be enough for the owners of the 6 to be deemed to not be suitable owners. They should be given 6 months to dispose of their ownership or it will be confiscated. What would YOU pay for Spurs with a £1bn debt and a stadium they cant allow fans into? It goes without saying that the £175m COVID interest free loan Spurs have from the government should be recalled tomorrow.

"The wrong kind of fit and proper, obviously. As there is some good arguments that only people with minds that are at least a bit psychopathic have what it takes to be a multi billionaire with staying power, are there ANY fit and proper charachters that could afford to buy a top level football club?"
