What a ridiculous thread. Bloke has barely had an opportunity at a club in disarray under a lame duck manager obsessed with another player at his position which is a big part of the reason we are in this mess in the first place.
To add he obviously WASN'T first second or even third choice for his position given the other players we were linked with and the fact he ended up coming in right at the end of the window, He was the best available cheap(est) option.
But the cսnt needs and deserves a proper chance. Starting games, in a defined role. Not coming on for 20 mins alongside the bloke he's meant to be replacing while the bloke he's meant to be partnering has gone off.
It's an insane situation.

The kids stats for 2024/25 averaged him in top 5 French midfielders. He played Champions League football for Monaco. Their fans were angry at his sale. Everything leans towards him being a very good player. Yet, people are slating him for one sub performance in a shit performance under a coach who is on the brink. I mean, give him a chance.

He doesn't look to know his position, the midfield is overrun. It's why everyone put there looks poor. He does look to have strength and be able to put in a tackle but I think he is caught out with poor anticipation and gets caught ball watching or out of position. Early days for a young player, I don't think you can make judgement when he hasn't played with this team and none of the team are performing.

Potts was the best if our centre mids in pre season and only got 45 mins against Chelsea where we were akresfy 2 or 3 down. He might not ultimately be good enough, we simply dont know, but he needs to be given a chance in a team that is losing every week !!!
Btw from what Ive seen if the U21s the same could apply to Marshall, Fearon, Kante and the best of the lot Earthy. They need a chance

Btw My mate is a Pompey fan.
Can't believe Potts has not got game time. Absolutely raved about him, convinced he could make the big step and be a huge success.

Everybody's pissed with the way things are going, of course. But I don't think digging out a new 21-year-old signing who has barely kicked a ball in England, at this stage, is great.
At least wait until Everton have thrashed us at their amazing new ground, under our old manager, first.

Too early to label him 'shit'.
Needs time. Better manager guidance etc.
However, we need players to hit the ground running, so it's not great.

Give the lad a break, he has to start next game and then we can make a proper assessment.
who does he drop for that to happen ?
yeah exactly..... so he wont start him.

Not written him off yet Feet but what we’ve seen thus far is a tad worrying. He looks one paced. He had superb stars for interceptions in the French lge but the Prem is a lot faster. I read he isnt that strong aerially but he look a yard off the pace today. Agree that he needs a prooer start in games and yes he might just be adjusting but he certainly doesnt look like a young player ready to hit the ground running. We should have loaned in Bissouma and probably will in Jan assuming we gave enough points to make survival an option

I'm shocked at his lack of any pace.
He's miles away from making any sort of contribution to this lack lustre outfit

Lets hope he’s adusting and struggling coming into a poor team but “energy and pace” were supposedly irrntigied by sll and sundry as urgent requurements for central midfield. Magassa from the 40 odd mins we’ve seen aimt addressing that.
Did Macaulay identify this geezer ot wss he 6th on the list and we had to go for him as Sullivan woukdnt allow us to spend until the last week of the window?
Its too esrly to write him off and 2 x 20-30 min cameos is hardly a big data set to judge a player on but so far its not looking good. He simply doesnt look quick enough in movement or thought. Why are West Ham not alliwed to have pace, stamina, strength and physicality in midfield? Are players with that profile too expensive?

Is lack of pace really stood out for me. I was watching him when he first come on and he was running in circles chasing the ball but not getting near it.
Reminded me a lot of that Alou Diarra we had for a period.

He doesnt look very quick and has that languid, lazy look to his running and when he is on the ball. Reminiscent of Kouyate but a tad quicker. No problems physically in terms of strength but can he cover the ground quickly enough? That was Alvarez’s problem and cost him bookings with late challenges.
Obviously need to give him a few games / time and in an 11 man team but my initial reaction is that he will not plug the gap that Rice left. Its amazing that with all these analytics that we cannot seem to get pace in the team. It can only be down to the requirements being specified. If you are not looking for that attribute you dont get it.
He will be an upgrade on Soucek, JWP and Guido but not sure that is a high bar.

Agree that Fernandes looked out of position & seemed Paqueta was being played at centre forward at times
Need Magassa for some physicality with Fernandes central
Earthy is fit now & id have him ahead of JWP
Id have Doris the Tea Lady ahead of JWP but that’s another matter

Hopefully as Feet is intimating, its a rash early judgement and he will learn his role and his pure size and physicality will see him improve us a team in that midfield. I mean Rodri aint super quick either but was and is still one of the best central midfielders in the world.
Fernandes needs to be played in his best position as a number 8 centrally. He has a bit of pace but we really need another athletic central midfielder. Another Rice or Caicedo type or the greatest of them all a Kante type engine getting about the pitch. Another transfer windiw failure along with no younger quick striker, a midget GK and no dominant, pacey, strong CB. Just got to pray Igor surprises us in a good way on the last one.

It's ridiculous to make any kind of judgement after a 25 minute cameo with us being down to ten.
...as the silly spurs cսnt who started this thread knows full well.
