Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"I think what brought this down was Chelsea and Man City pulling out. They didn’t need it as they are wealthy and well run clubs ( to achieve regular success). They saw the reaction and obviously said we don’t need this. Once they were out it was dominos . If there is an opportunity the owners of these clubs will try again. We all know the money has gone mostly in the pockets of players, managers and agents. This part of the game is broken and has been for a long time.. it’s broken throughout football and greed is not just an owner thing. Hopefully this will be addressed."

"Lily Hammer 9:51 Wed Apr 21 Were not the Saudis deemed not ""fit and proper owners"" for Newcastle? What aspect of their make-up determined that? In what way was it worse for football than what the ""founding"" (Ha Ha Ha, that still fucking cracks me up) club owners have done?"

"I think the fan power thing is being grossly over-stated. What has brought this thing down is a more robust than anticipated opposition by the PL, FA and UEFA, coupled with universal rejection by the broadcast media. Add in the very real threat of government sanctions and virtually unanimous condemnation by players and they were fucked."

"Maybe we should take a leaf out of some of the more conservative religious zealots practice here and annotate the names of the clubs involved to reflect their links to this scheme. I've seen many religious texts that, whenever the name of Mohammed is mentioned, this is followed by the letters PBUH (Peace Be Upon Him). I have no issue with that, but it offers a simple path to remind all of what these clubs have done, so: Arsenal FC (ESLF) - European Super League Founder, or, Tottenham Hotspur FC (JPMB) - J P Morgan's Bitch. Link the failed project, the teams involved and it's financial backers together. Can probably update your spell checker to auto correct so you don't even have to bother typing it in yourself."

"There is the argument, that I mostly agree with, that the fans and players shouldn't be punished for crimes of the owners. Glasgow Rangers fans may have something to say about that. Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time, is the sage advice. These arrogant billionaire cunts need to hurt from whatever the punishment is, but I suspect whatever the punishment is will be something to which they'll say ""I can do that standing on my head."" And then on to the next grubby scheme."

"So if The Yids get a ban from European competitions next season, and Kane leaves as promised, Levy put the final nail in the coffin himself?"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
We can confirm that we have formally commenced procedures to withdraw from the group developing proposals for a European Super League (ESL). Chairman Daniel Levy said: “We regret the anxiety and upset caused by the ESL proposal. We felt it was important that our club participated in the development of a possible new structure that sought to better ensure financial fair play and financial sustainability whilst delivering significantly increased support for the wider football pyramid. “We believe that we should never stand still and that the sport should constantly review competitions and governance to ensure the game we all love continues to evolve and excite fans around the world. “We should like to thank all those supporters who presented their considered opinions.”

"Maybe now the authorities, media and referees will stop sucking the rich six clubs’ collective cocks. Spread the message that it is okay to support unfashionable clubs and for them to have good players and compete."

"If there is a reluctance to punish those that have shat on you, then expect them to shit on you again. If no bans/fines in place that rules of the game must be modified - without their input - to ensure this can never be allowed to happen again. And no using our Tevez defence legal team in order to save a few bob, either."

"I can't see how UEFA can't get around banning these teams from next season's competitions. If they don't, then they've got away with what they've done, and there is no deterrent laid down for the future."

"Think the 6 got away with murder in the respect that stadiums will still be empty for a few months, giving any bad feeling to ebb away."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Well done to all football fans, they underestimated the power of the fans G Nev and Carra also deserve alot of praise for their efforts Punishments should follow, i hope fans dont forget once we are allowed back and the greedy 6 suffer for a while"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"I am pleased that this is over - for now. A small victory after years of being fucked over and the game I fell in love with being reduced to a shadow of its former self. But let's not delude ourselves. These the loathsome cunts will be back after licking their festering wounds. They will be seething that after coming out with their dicks swinging in a mine-is-bigger-than-yours contest, which they lost in the most humiliating way possible. It turned out that my dick really was bigger than theirs. There's a thing. I think that we have an opportunity here. A small reset. For example, let's get rid of VAR straight away. No one (of any note) likes it. Let's bring back some standing at matches. Redesign the European competitions. Oh, and if GSB are monitoring this site, watch out! The last couple of days have showed the power of what football fans are actually capable of. As an aside, it has been interesting to see a thread where we have had almost universal agreement within the WHO community! Despite a couple of the usual suspects at one point trying to convert it into a political borefest again, I have found myself in agreement with a load of posters with whom I normally disagree. I don't like it."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Of course there won't be any serious repercussions now. Do you really think that Uefa would warn of the consequences of going ahead with the ESL and then punish them anyway when they drop it? Uefa will be happy just to have knocked these clubs down a peg or two. The whole situation will have given these clubs a lot less leverage in all their dealings with Uefa.

"The 6 should have to sell their best 3 players, distribute the proceeds to the football league and be banned from transfers for 2 years :-)"

This feels very calculated. We have super successful billionaires buckling in unison within 48hrs I think they were testing the water. This doesn’t go away.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
There's talk of banning the rich six from European competition next season as punishment. Surely the punishment should be something that affects Arsenal and Tottenham?

"I have a sneaking suspicion that what will come of this is some kind of control/sanity over players wages. At least, it should."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"The punishment I’d like to see is a Europe-wide salary cap. Football leagues would become more competitive, clubs wouldn’t become so indebted, and ticket prices could well drop as player salaries stopped being so absurdly high."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"The punishment MUST match the (potential) crime. They were prepared, on a totally voluntary basis, to forego all CL money for 23 years and deny the CL their presence for the same amount of time. Seems fair to me that figure and status stands. They were prepared to deny each of the other 14 PL teams European football for 23 years - again, they felt that length of time fully appropriate, who am I to argue. No need for any additional fines - not being on the TV screens across China, India, SE Asia for a whole generation will be enough."
