Russell Brand
Dispatches tonight could be about him so he has jumped in first dismissing claims and rumours and saying anything he did in past was consensual. No doubt it will be said that this is The Matrix coming after him due to his opposition to mainstream media.

Re: Russell Brand
"Swiss, Yeah, this is shit for him, especially if he is innocent. But unless he’s convicted of rape, I genuinely don’t think he will be cancelled. Losing YouTube is shit for him, but he makes a large proportion of his money from streaming on Rumble. He’s never being demonitized over there. He wouldn’t make money from iPlayer or Channel 4 online anyway. His hardcore fans will back him to the hilt. They’ll say it’s a hit job by the mainstream media because he knows too much, blah blah. He might lose a few subscribers, but he won’t be cancelled."
Re: Russell Brand
"Debs the actual quote is ""'Meanwhile, the BBC said it had removed some programmes featuring the comedian and actor from its streaming services. It comes after he was accused of rape and sexual assaults between 2006 and 2013. He denies the claims, saying his relationships were ""always consensual"". The BBC said it had removed some content that ""now falls below public expectations"" from iPlayer and BBC Sounds""'"

Re: Russell Brand
Are you sure he has been cancelled from.the iplayer? I can't think of anything he has been that's high profile on the BBC outside of his ill fated radio show with Johnathan Ross and a few appearances on Question.Time which would have probably been deleted off there ages ago.? Has someone just assumed he'd been cancelled because they couldn't find anything with him.in.it on there?

Re: Russell Brand
"I haven't read any of this thread. My views having seen the documentary: a) Brand is a massive prick... actually I thought that anyway. Like endorsing the fires in Hawaii being caused by lasers fired by the government lunatic conspiracy theory. Nothing to do with the documentary b) Some people defending him are suggesting that media outlets should never run stories that haven't gone to court. That's bonkers. We have a free press. We should be able to look for evidence of wrong doing and present it to the public, in our country. c) There is clearly evidence of wrong doing from Brand. Note 'evidence' does not equate to 'proven beyond reasonable doubt'. d) Women regularly don't report abuse for a range of reasons. Just because they haven't reported to the Police doesn't mean this stuff didn't happen. The documentary was reasonable and provided evidence of unacceptable behaviour, in the public interest. Should his current work be suspended whilst investigations take place? Yes. If he is investigated and the allegations are unproven then he should be able to continue in his work. Not sure why everyone seems to think you should take a black and white approach to this."

"Takashi Miike 5:12 Tue Sep 19 Re: Russell Brand Miike - says he‚Äôs not taking it personally, then gets defensive and insults me because he‚Äôs taken it personally. Funny thing is, I wasn‚Äôt even talking about you. I don‚Äôt know if you‚Äôve noticed, but I‚Äôve pretty much ignored all your comments because I find you to be full of shit. You just seem like an angry old man, calling everything and everyone a cսnt, with no real opinion. So I hope this has given you the attention you need and maybe you can calm down a bit. And people think I talk shit. Fine. But I‚Äôm simply responding to comments with examples and opinions. I know I‚Äôm in the minority, but I know what I‚Äôm talking about. It‚Äôs not just me that says Brand is a right winger. I could post countless articles discussing the topic, but I know people will just say it‚Äôs the mainstream woke media so it can‚Äôt be trusted."

Re: Russell Brand
"Eerie Descent 8:59 Tue Sep 19 I’ve never said anything of the sort. I think we should all question things and have a healthy debate. But just because Russell Brand tells you to question the mainstream media, doesn’t mean he doesn’t pander to the right. And this mainstream media fixation bollocks…so many times I’ve heard a personality or comedian tell me they are not allowed to say something because it goes against the mainstream media narrative, or they are being censored - while telling exactly what they are not supposed to say. So what is it? You’re being censored from telling the truth or not? Because I seem to be hearing what a lot of these anti-establishment folk are saying quite a bit. Joe Rogan has 190 MILLION downloads a month, yet he has the cheek to talk about censorship and the mainstream media. He is the fucking mainstream. stewie griffin 9:21 Tue Sep 19 I know exactly the point I’m making. As time has gone on, his thumbnails and posts have become more reactionary to garner clicks. The right love to feel victimized and attacked, so they join in the rage. Read any comment section on any right wing newspaper or post online. It’s all clickbait nonsense. Eerie Descent 9:42 Tue Sep 19 If you don’t watch any of his stuff, why are you even commenting? Most people on here seem to be taking this personally and are trying to shut down my opinion. Almost like the mainstream is trying to censor me for speaking the truth. Ironic that. Lily Hammer 9:45 Tue Sep 19 I think that’s great. I wish more people would start in the middle and make their minds up from there. Unfortunately, that’s not what the majority of people do in today’s society. The culture wars dictate that you must pick a side and everything becomes political. Budweiser, Pride, Films, Ukraine, Disney - you pick a side and that’s that. The right will never debate or even try to see another opinion. So Brand can say we should agree with things on the left and the right all he wants, the truth is, his core audience won't and never will. stewie griffin 10:43 Tue Sep 19 Who said “far” right? I didn’t. I said right wing. But to then list Trump, Carlson, and Elon Musk as not holding far right views, that’s just absurd, because they absolutely do. BRANDED 11:16 Tue Sep 19 Yes, most of his audience is American. The American right are the loudest. And to trot out the old “he’s just asking questions” line is a bit disingenuous. He knows exactly what he’s doing. Sure, he’s questioning the rich and powerful, but he’s also banking on right wing rage by discussing topics such as was 9/11 an inside job, or does the vaccine give you a heart attack, or was the 2020 election stolen. He’s pandering to the right for clicks. Like I said earlier, if Alex Jones and Andrew Tate are coming out of the woodwork to defend you, I don’t think you can classify yourself as a liberal."

Branded. Have you read The New Puritans? It's next on my list after 'A Heretics Manifesto (Brendan O' Neil).

Re: Russell Brand
"Yes. His work is still available but he won't be able to monetise it, I assume until there is some proof of his innocence!!! He's broadly being cancelled across the board and it reminded me of the book The New Puritans ""The New Puritans live in a bifurcated world, divided into sinners and saints. Using simplistic generalizations, they assume the truth of their claims a priori. For them, “no evidence of sin [is required] to detect and denounce the sinners in our midst.” Doyle concludes that these activists now practice what amounts to a religion. By religion, Doyle refers to a particular form of fundamentalism. He is careful to distinguish this group from the traditional notion of Puritanism. The New Puritans have nothing to do with post-Reformation England or the Protestant purification of Roman Catholicism. Nor does the New Puritanism have anything to do with abolishing sports on the Sabbath. It is an analogy Doyle uses to refer to an authoritarian ideology that seeks to engineer society in accordance with progressive beliefs."""

Could you ask Campbell whether his alcohol consumption is due to not being able to sleep at night with a million dead Iraqis on his conscience? Ta.
