No one is ever good enough for us. Despite the fact we have no strikers and apparently the shittest squad in premier league history.

Villa signed two of their best players in January Rogers and Duran.. Can be done.. We signed Bowen
I will re-position it as no team in a top league will let their best players go.
Ajax will let this fella go for a reason.

Brobbey is having a sub-par season by his own standards and wanted to leave in the Summer. There's been a managerial change to a manager that doesn't play so much to his strengths and prefers to play Weghorst. Ajax have a policy of cashing in on their best players at the peak of their value. So they have a young striker who doesn't want to be there having an off season after an exceptional one....they're just gambling that now is the moment to get their best return.

No guarantee he succeeds for us, but their allowing him to leave doesn't mean he's useless.
He may well turn out to be a perfect fit, i really hope so.
two questions for me are:
1. Is he better than Ings?
2. What is the deal structure?

answer to 1 is more than like. Two, I just hope we’re not locked into an expensive obligation for a short sighted solution.

The fact Ajax are insisting it’s an obligation rather than option to buy says it all

Mr Brobbey sounds awful, 1 goal in 17, Ajax and their fans can’t get rid of him quick enough
He's 22 and scored  1 in 2 before that, a big unit who has some pace.. Yep I'm in.

Agree LJC Im definitely all over the place. I always put up the worst scenario as I despise Sullican so much and his record of incompetence makes my doomsday predictions feasible unfortunately.  Just treat me like a harmless fool and try to indulge me 😂 Its what my missus has done for over 40 years 👍

Again only playing devil’s advocate. I’d love us to sign a player of this ilk. Show intent. I’m just a bloody pessimist re WHU.

Sir Alf" wrote: 25 Jan 2025, 04:42 We will see “The Sullivan Effect” if we, as I expect, sign Silva a 29 year old has been as opposed to 22 year old Brobby.  Short termism and repeating incompetent, disjointed thinking of the last 15 years.  Will also very likely depend on who is brokering the deals.  That, not the player fit or profile, determines who we get. Sullivan is a malignent tumour for the club that has just come out of remission
Alf you spent ages telling us Lop was here for the season and going nowhere. I think your last post on here said we are signing no one and now you are saying we will sign Silva! It’s a bit all over the place!! If Silva comes in for six months with no obligation because Potter wants to take time to choose his striker in the summer then I totally understand it.

If he does go there it just goes to show we (and Steidten) dragged our heels in wasting the opportunity and an achievable value to get him in the Summer when wasting too much time on Duran and ending up with the German Carthorse instead. Had we done so, our season would have looked a lot different than it is now.

That’s assuming he would actually sign for us though.
Recent European Conference Cup winners (his current Club Feyenoord runners up season before us), offer big wages, Premier League Football, playing in front of regularly sold out crowds at the Olympic Stadium, London, play alongside other quality Forwards like Bowen, Paqueta and Kudus, as well as his mexican mate Alvarez. I reckon there would have been a decent chance of getting him in the Summer if we seriously tried.

It would be nice to think that we could attract that type of talent. I just doubt we can. We might be mentioned now but it seems the player has already agreed terms with Milan, so too late. Unless a Todibo situation arises! We can but hope.

Maybe. The point really is we weren't talked about even being in the discussion to try and get him which we appear to be now. It's not always a Clubs fault for failing to get a new decent player in, but I do blame them for not at least seriously trying.

Or he might have decided he wanted Champions League football, challenge for league titles etc. We don’t know. Maybe we did enquire and got told there was no chance of him coming to us. Just playing devil’s advocate here.
