I think it's appeal was in the fact that it was completely and utterly ridiculous. It's all about finding different ways to kill people. Fight between proctors chap and the fit Indian bird in series 3 (?) was quality.

"Dont know if anyone has mentioned this, but The Americans is fucking awesome TV. Gone a bit under the radar here, but its an excellent drama about Russian spies in the USA during the 80's. The sense of the period is superb as is that writing and acting. Well worth viewing."
