I wonder if they factored in governments getting involved, like the threats of windfall taxes, or whether some other key party, like the broadcaster started to get cold feet? They would have had access to the contracts the clubs had with the Premier League so they should have been fully aware of the situation there. I was even surprised that they announced this late on a Sunday without any kind of joint press conference. Either this is one the biggest debacles in Investment banking or something else happened."
