"El Scorchio 3:44 Tue Jan 23 You are dead right. The Sun-Thu-Sun routine takes its toll and Phillips adds strength in depth. Sadly, I have also heard a few rumours that Alvarez injury is worse than is being reported and he could miss alot of the rest of the season. It could be people adding 2 and 2 and getting 5... But its just what I've heard."

"Looks like the Suguwara links now have real traction. Lots of reports that Steidten has laid the groundwork and we are ready to do the deal. Reports also that he may be coming in with Young-woo-Seol. Young, dynamic, athletic players who we are getting for good value and reasonable fees. Could be the start of a new direction that Steidten wants to take the club."

Don't really get it. The one area we have enough cover. So does Alvarez get bumped for him? That would be mental. Create an unhappy player by bringing in someone short term to usurp him who is totally using us as a stepping stone and will then fuck off in the summer. No point in bringing in outrageously expensive cover for Alvarez. (Or the other two) Soucek isn't getting dropped. JWP isn't getting dropped. So are we going to play those four together? That will make us dreary but solid. You could argue it gives us the options to properly rotate with more Thu-Sun-Thu-Sun coming up but the chance is he won;t do that and he'll just flog the same players to death and leave someone out in the cold. Would far rather he looked at cover for the full back positions or a proper centre forward who can tolerate how he insists on playing.

Understand Phillips has 4 more years of his £165k (or £165 million) a week contract at City so dont expect he will be going anywhere permanently any time soon £7m loan fee and paying most/all of his wages wont see anyone take him but guess City will reduce their demands as the deadline approaches .... which might bring some of the European clubs into the picture

"Obviously a useful addition but an expensive one. Phillips also makes us even more defensive cos, as others have said, I can't see Moyes dropping Soucek so presumably it will be Phillips and Alvarez with Soucek more advanced which begs the question who drops out? It will also take Phillips 2-3 games to get up to speed. Makes sense if we have an option to buy but will just mean half the Paqueta money goes on him."

Phillips joining us will be part of the Paquet?° deal to City in the summer *taps nose

"Philips was impressive for Leeds and when I saw him for England in the euros. Since the City move he looked rusty when I've seen him which isn't a surprise. I've always thought of him as a Scott Parker type of player, win the ball and pass it on. Not sure how he would fit into the team but I remember saying that about Alex Song and that first season for us he was superb for us."

"If any truth that Phillips had no desire to move here permanently, you simply don’t sign him. What’s the point? Its not an area we are desperate in. We never (or more accurately, Moyes never) prioritises properly. Sign a forward before anything else. Then a left winger. Maybe a hybrid of the two if you’re shit scared of signing an outright striker because you don’t know how to use one."

Looks like the Philipps deal is happening then. Seems a strange one when taking into account the cost of it all. Where does he fit into the team? Soucek being dropped to the bench has been wishful thinking in the past. Not sure signing Phillips changes that.

"Lee - Ideally I would prefer us to do that but realistically we're not going to. Though could be a good reason behind it, getting a Moyes target in for as long as Moyes is here.. One can dream right.."

"fraser 2:26 Tue Jan 23 What Manuel has said below. If we need a midfielder, then go out and buy another one if he has that attitude. There's loads of others out there. Don't be like Moyes and become fixated on a certain player. The other issue is, if he become so important to the way we play, we basically fuck ourselves for next season searching around for someone like him. Just do that business now instead."

"I think most agree that Phillips will be a good addition, but players coming in on loan with no desire to stay leaves a bit of a bad taste for me, seems like a bit of a kick in the teeth for the other players in that area, and has a bit of a 'I'm doing you a favour' air about it. That said, as said, it's always possible that he could change his mind about staying. I'm not against Broja, think there's a player there, Chelsea are never getting 50 mil for him, but anything sensible I'm not against, I think a left sided player is more likely though."

"First of all happy that the site is back up and running, The Phillipp's issue is the main talking point I see. This has Moyes written all over it and means we will be more defensive IMO. When we need a goal scoring centre forward and left sided midfield and another playmaker like Paqueta apart from a right back we go for Phillipps........... You couldn't make this up, could you? As for the two Korean full backs the Dogs will very nervous in the Est End of London. As for Broja words fail me. Someone wrote on here before the breakdown he's not a footballer. Truest words you''ll here on here for a while."

Broja is never worth £50 million.

"I see every point.. He can carry, pass, tackle and press better than Soucek... That's half a season of upgrade.. We're crying out for some legs in midfield... If we can't get someone permanent why not get a loan or would you rather see us line up as we did Sunday?"

"fraser 1:07 Tue Jan 23 ""Oh and an ITK on ITBS is claiming he has no interest in a permanent move to us"" I see no point in signing him on loan, if that's the case."

I'm not against us signing Broja. But never for £50m. He's has half a decent season almost 3 years ago in the Premier League. That doesn't make you worth £50m.

"Apparently he just doesn't want to relocate permanently. Makes sense if true and puts him in the shop window. Good move for both if it improves us, so why not. Imagine the difference of him picking up the ball from defence, can pass quite we and carry and control the ball, plus there's always the chance he might like it here"

Doesn’t want a perm move? Sounds just like the Lombard loan. Thought he was too good for little West Ham. Phillips is 29 next birthday.? He will be hard pushed to find a rich 5 club after him imo? Perhaps just wants a club to pay him the big bucks he now gets? Or cannot stand us southerners and our shandy drinking ways ;-)

The loan fee apparently. Oh and an ITK on ITBS is claiming he has no interest in a permanent move to us but does want to come for the rest of the season.

"We, or more specifically Moyes, clearly wants Phillips, City say he can go and by all accounts the player is keen to come. So why the hold up? Maybe the wages?"

Is Phillips this years equivalent of Lombard? Moyes does this lovesick spotty teenager routine where he love bombs one player only to suffer rejection. Unrequited love I think they call it?
