Edson ?Ålvarez Signed
"West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of Mexico international Edson ?Ålvarez. The 25-year-old has joined the Hammers on a permanent contract until June 2028 for an undisclosed fee, after the Club fought off strong competition from other top European clubs to bring him to London Stadium. A strong and versatile midfielder, ?Ålvarez moves to English football from Dutch club Ajax, where he won two Eredivisie titles, and less than a month after winning his second CONCACAF Gold Cup with Mexico. Capped 69 times by his country, ?Ålvarez has extensive European experience with Ajax and is now looking forward to playing Premier League and UEFA Europa League football with West Ham. ‚ÄúI am very happy and very proud to be here,‚Äù said ?Ålvarez, who speaks fluent English after learning the language during his four-year stay in Amsterdam. ‚ÄúBeing here in London and seeing London Stadium, it‚Äôs amazing. I can‚Äôt wait to play here in front of the West Ham fans. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs a hugely sentimental moment for me in my career. To join a club like a West Ham is a dream for me and my family. ‚ÄúThe Premier League is a special league, the best league in the world and I think my style will suit it. I now have a responsibility to West Ham and the West Ham family and I will give absolutely everything for the shirt.‚Äù Manager David Moyes is looking forward to working with a player who ranked first in ball carry distance and second in pass attempts in the Eredivisie last season. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre really pleased to add Edson to our squad,‚Äù he said. ‚ÄúThe midfield area was one we were especially keen to strengthen this summer ‚Äì and Edson will complement the other options we have in that department. ‚ÄúHe‚Äôs an experienced international player, who has enjoyed great success for both club and country during his career to date. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre excited about welcoming to West Ham and seeing him play his part in English and European competition for the Club.‚Äù ?Ålvarez will wear the 19 shirt at West Ham United."

Manager David Moyes is looking forward to working with a player who ranked first in ball carry distance Does that mean Moyes is looking forward to nipping his ball carrying skills in the bud

Re: Edson ?Ålvarez Signed
"Just seen that it's been confirmed that Liverpool will pay110M for Caicedo, then what Arsenal have paid for Rice, insane money for a DM but making this deal at around 35M look a steal. Fingers crossed, but he looks a beast (yeah i know Youtube!!) and will do well in the PL."

fraser 7:02 Thu Aug 10 Mass relief at having completed a signing at last - and he seems to be a decent signing though most probably don't know much about him. It's hope.

"Lato 12:54 Fri Aug 11 ''Welcome Edson, big boots to fill !'' No he hasn't. This is not about whether he can do what Rice did, and who knows he might be better, but he's a player in his own right with his own character and style of play. I for one won't be comparing him to Rice. Fuck Rice."

Looking forward to seeing him play. Hopefully got the right character and desire to endear himself to the fans and make an impact. Going to need a few games to find his feet.

"fraser 7:02 Thu Aug 10 Re: Edson ?Ålvarez Signed Everyone seems to be on board with this fella, very un WHO like, site, dogs etc.. ___ I'll give him a couple of games before I start slagging him off as a fancy pants, dego, sombrero wearing, Mariachi band playing, nacho munching waste of space and money. About as good a DM we could have attracted. Hopefully gets a chance to settle in quick and not be held back by Moyes.

"Welcome, Eddie, son. I’ve never seen him play, but the Mexicans are usually quality, certainly if they make the national team. Reading his Wiki page, I really liked how he first used to work for his family’s business, and how he used to make a three hour round trip every day to go to training, spending 70% of his wages on transport. He knows graft and reality, no spoilt PlayStation brat. High hopes for our new amigo. IRONS!"

"This looks to me to be an astute signing. I am impressed with this guy's good grasp of English, which whufc.com states he learned while he was playing in the Netherlands. Shows he is hard working and dedicated. Welcome Edson, son."

Just watched the podcast with the Ginger Pele and I liked what Alvarez had to say. If he can play anywhere near as good he will be a success. Good Luck to him
