Nuno In
Welcome, Nuno son.
Not my first choice, wish we were more forward looking and all that. But he's here, and to be honest, he's probably what we need given everything we all know is wrong with the club and the team at present.
Positives are he was a goalkeeper, so he'll surely make the best decision on that front going forward. Hermansen has looked shocking, but those that had watched him regularly all rated him, so who knows, maybe in a different set up he might not be so bad, but expect Areloa to be first choice.
Brought Kilman into the Wolves team, and built him into a player we were stupid enough to pay £40mil for. Can't see if myself, but maybe he'll make him look competent, whatever way, the defence will improve under him. It can't not. And set pieces against us won't feel like penalty's.
He favours attacking fullbacks who get forward, and ours are suited to that. JWP won't start from now. The biggest positive of this appointment. He loves wingers, and we have one of the best in the league in Bowen, a rapid one in Summerville, and Guilherme will hopefully get some game time as back up in a style that will suit him. Fullkrug can maybe be our Chris Wood. Probably not, but lets hope so.
Ovbviously he's a counter attacking manager, but I don't think he's from the last 2 years of Moyes playbook. Hopefully it'll be the early version of Moyes, with quicker pressing and faster counter attacking. Let's fucking hope so. I remember Forest beating someone 7-0, and they scored loads of goals throughout the season.
The main problem remains, but fucking hell, this change was needed.

Re: Nuno IN
Possession is overrated, especially if you do nothing with the ball.
That's when it gets boring for me.
The decent season we had in 20/21 where we played this style under Moyes, we finished 6th with the 6th worst possession STATS in the league. The football we played that season was exciting, I'm sure we'd all agree.

Yep Iberian Moyes (Portugal isn't in the Med)
BBC saying the same
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/arti ... q5w0rp8n1o
Good read, sounds like Nuno is better than Moyes at player relations, playing them in their best position to get the best out of them. I like that. But playing style sounds like a Moyes copy.
Just hope he can keep it entertaining and doesn't end up boring us like Moyes.

Re: Nuno IN
Guess its the best 'freebie' we could have got. I certainly have a bit more hope of staying up now. It will probably spell the end of JWP aswell after he sent him back to us last season so thats a huge bonus.
My main worries are that our squad doesnt have the players to effectively play the counter attacking style he had with Forest and that he doesnt seem to give a fuck about playing youth players. Can't think of any that came through at Spurs or Forest.
If he keeps us up great, but if our youngsters don't get developed then its another clanger from the dildo dwarf

Re: Nuno IN
The Mediterranean Moyes.
I like him. Seems a good guy and has experience. Did well at Wolves in providing them with the foundation to see where the 'Portugal' project got them. Think they were knocking on the door of European places one season. Totally bombed at Spurs as they just wasn't having his style and he wasn't given time. Took a while to get going at Forest but eventually got them into Europe.
But I am not sure he is the answer. We had the low block counter attack style with Moyes and it worked to a point but when it didn't it was awful. Forest averaged 35% possession last season - Are we happy to do that again? I must admit, I got very bored of watching the likes of Brentford, Everton, and Fulham passing the ball around for 90% of a match while we sit in. My daughter got bored of it too.
I mean, I just don't know anymore - When you have an owner that only employs out of work coaches you are so limited to who you get and what you can achieve.
Having said all that - He will be an improvement on Potter - So that's a positive, although its setting the bar low. I think he will get us competitive at home at least and I think he will keep us in the PL. Beyond that, who knows?

Re: Nuno IN
Smashing Brighton 7-0 last season with Forest is proof Nuno can take the handbrake off and go for the kill. Be nice to see some of that once the Team settles down understanding what he wants from them.
Re: Nuno IN
A lot of us naturally assuming that Nuno will improve things since set pieces and box defending account for half our goals conceded. Nuno’s teams do tend to be like Moyes compact, solid although we wont include Moyes last season where we conceded 80 goals was it? We womt gave the ball much again but should expect Bowen and Summerville to profit from counter attscks and running into space.
A word or two of caution though, this “mish mash” of a West Ham squad lacks a dominant keeper and only one real physical defender in Mavropanos. Kilman will be sat deeper with the team as a whole though so that should better suit him and his lack of pace. Todibo will likely be looking for another club soon as Nuno not a lover of ball playing CBs who are not very physical and crap in the air. This latter trait may also mean Igor staying on the bench as he has poor aerial ability according to his stats. Even AWB isnt kniwn for his anility in thr air but has played as a CB if we get injuries to Mavro or Kilman
Up top there is no Chris Wood outlet. Fullkrug aint tyat goid aerially and in physical hold up play. So not sure how Nuno will solve that?
But overall just got to hope Nuno can get a few points on the board. There wont be a huge turnaround is my thinking but hopefully enough to get up a few places in the league until Jan when a striker, CB and even another central midfielder may be needed.

He'll probably go with...
Areola
------ Wan Bissaka Mavro Kilman ------
Walker-Peters Hadji-Diouf
Soucek
Fernandes Paqueta
Bowen Fullkrug Summerville
I had a feeling Nuno would be a wily old cat, going for the old 12 man formation...
Ha! Well I fucked that up!
I was probably thinking drop Soucek and when we get the deep lying midfielder (Locatelli?) then it's one less centre back in exchange for that DM role. The basic gist though is I'm sort of in the right ball park minus 1 of course...

Re: Nuno IN
I don't mind Nuno at all...He is certainly a capable, well organized manager. He's got his work cut out with our badly recruited, disjointed squad but will certainly make a big difference defence-wise.
We'll be back to the low block Moyes style again but when he gets the team into a rhythm doing the right things at the right time keeping the lines tight and hitting on the counter, I think we will look a lot better.
For the life of me I struggled to see what the Potter masterplan was other than to expect players who are second or third rate to be as tactically adaptable as a first class superstar - which isn't going to happen with our squad.
We'll have Bowen and Summerville to provide the pace on the break...we possibly need another deep lying midfield general (we're linked with Manuel Locatelli at Juventus) to allow Fernandes and Paqueta to shine with maybe Potts coming on regularly as a sub...but as usual we need to address the mobility issues in there as well as the perennial striker conundrum which remains unresolved under our illustrious ownership.
He'll probably go with...

Failing that, he might well give Igor Julio a go in defence so Wan Bissaka and Walker Peters will juggle the wing back in that case.
If Todibo's professionalism issues are anything to go by Nuno will have him in his cross-hairs from day one...mark my words.

Re: Nuno IN
Speaks well (like they usually do) in his 1st interview here. I especially like the line about acknowledging it's about time the Team produced something for the Fans to get behind and when that happens the Fans will look after the Team. The Fans have done their bit on too many occasions and it's good that Nuno realises that already. He might have 2nd thoughts about what hell looks like when managing inside the Shithole but it's an encouraging start...

Re: Nuno IN
He also hasn't been badly scarred like the rest of our PTSD suffering Defenders so would bring a different mentality in to it. Potter idiotically ignored him for 2 games left on the Bench and he'd been here for 3 weeks and recently played in a 6-0 win in the Cup for Brighton. That's Potter logic for you.

Re: Nuno IN
I can see the point: Soucek can actually win headers and has the bottle to get in the way of shots blasted at goal. Apart from that I can't see him being anything but an absolute liability in that position, given the way he tackles and the fact that he turns like a truck. Any attacker with a bit of pace or skill would make a monkey out of him.

Re: Nuno IN
Here's a little prediction.. I reckon Soucek might be deployed at centre back.
The only thing he lacks there is pace, but if we're going to be a low block team, its not vital, and he's probably quicker than Kilman anyway.
Would be a warrior there. The new Dawson. Or our version of Milenkovic.

To be honest there is not a single department in the Team that doesn't need urgent attention first. That's how bad the mess left behind is.
Keepers - A fucking catastrophe
Defence - A fucking catastrophe
Midfield - A fucking catastrophe
Attack - A fucking catastrophe
We haven't done well in any part of the pitch, it's a total shitshow wherever you look.
One tiny positive from that though is it can't get much worse, so Nuno has that to build on. People did say it couldn't get much worse under Potter taking over and yet we sit 2nd bottom which was a different kettle of fish.

Re: Nuno IN
They've been discussing Nunu of Five Live and everyone spoke very highly of him, particularly Conner Coady who played under him at Wolves, saying that he improved him as both a person and a footballer. "You win everything with width" is his mantra.
I was left very encouraged.

Re: Nuno IN
Sullivan will have wanted a 12 month contract but no doubt Nuno has his terms and forced his hand (good for him). Best of the out of work bunch, would rather have had Silva but Sullivan dosen't do contract buy-outs under any circumstances. Our trajectory will be unchanged until Sullivan sells up. This is just another reactionary band aid and lets hope Nuno at least injects some passion, unlike Potter who looked every bit a man sitting comfortably on his hefty chelsea payout.

Re: Nuno IN
I thought it was fine to give Potter the summer transfer window and start of another season. Then you could say he only really dropped points to Sunderland, so a game or 2 wouldn’t have been crazy. Probably the pressure of the fans got Sullivan to act sooner. Will the protests continue? They should to keep pressure on SnB.
On the whole it was pretty awful and I’m happy to see what Nuno does.
