Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"It's only an ace in the hand if the remaining PL clubs decide that the can't live without the extra ""nice-to-have"" money. If they believe survival without the JPM6 is viable, that ace no longer holds any value. On a separate note, there's been no input from any of our ex-pat posters in what appear to be the target audience area for this new product. Do we still have people in Asia, SE Asia and such? If so, how is this being reported there - if at all?"

"Passerby, I agree. I think that's the ace in hand for the renegade 6. They know they won't be kicked out or have any severe sanctions placed on them as they hold the cards financially and it's the TV rights that are worth the most. Equally so, foreign broadcasters may see the ESL devalue their PL investment, and therefore it's broadcasters that hold all the cards."

"Passerby66 5:18 Tue Apr 20 I'm 100% not suggesting winding up the Premier League. I'm suggesting leaving it with just a membership of 6 to deliver on the contracts it has. It's quite possible to have a third party ""hold"" existing contracts in periods of change."

Mike Oxsaw 5:09 Tue Apr 20 It's a nice idea but winding up the Premier League would null and void all broadcast contracts globally and without the 6 cunts they would be renegotiating from a position of significant weakness.

I actually think that is the most outcome if it comes to chucking the 6 out. As long as the broadcasters are on board creating a new entity will probably be easier that expelling them

"Steady. I think a far better Idea would be to put all the current PL contracts into escrow, then have the 14 ""minnows"" and FA resign en mass from the PL, leaving only the JPM6 with the baby. At the same time, a new entity is set up and incorporated with representatives of the 15 plus the top six from the championship and this takes over the administration of top tier football in England. The relevant contracts are rolled out of escrow and into the new organisation, the rest rolled back to the old 6-strong Premier league. All that is needed then is for UEFA to recognise the new entity and games can commence. ESL have no argument because the 6 can still play in the Premier League - qualification for Europe is not an issue because they are all already there. As there is now no FA representative on the Premier League, the FA Cup is off limits."

"25 point deduction, stick them all in a relegation fight - ironically the thing they are looking to avoid in a closed league."

Seems like the arsenal supporters trust have already met with boris and dowden. Been told they will do everything they can to block the super leagues creation including creating new legislation if the FA is blocked by the courts

As it will be a closed shop with no promotion and relegation i would have thought a referral to the anti competition watchdog would be in order. They are businesses after all.

"Mike - fair enough give them a chance to explain their actions and denounce the super league and that they’ll withdraw from it, 48 hours or it’s the 25 point deduction. No messing about, withdraw or get a massive fine and points deduction."

Our issue with a less valuable PL is going to be our debt. Plenty of other teams will manage with less money but the debt will hold us back. You are also going to have a situation with players on big unsupportable wages which if you can’t flog them to one of the Super Clubs you are going to be stuck with a la Anderson until the end of their contracts when they then leave for free.

I would guess the rules also has remedial actions that the PL also have to follow. I am enjoying the fact it’s still only 12 as other big European teams reject it

"Steady 4:48 Tue Apr 20 For what crime? Even if they have broken the rules they help draft and signed up to, they still need a chance to defend their actions. They can filibuster this to the end of the season, then they don't give a fuck."

"Fo the Communist 4:37 Tue Apr 20 Brand PL is not worthless without the JPM6. Worth less, yes, but not worthless. If the 14 determine they can live with the new lower net worth, then ESL will have lost another bullet. Fuck it! Even I would seriously consider taking out a subscription if next season's PL did not contain the JPM6 but did contain the top nine from the championship as replacements."
