"Jaan K: you’ve missed my point, mate. If Coufal had been tearing it up, he wouldn’t have been subbed. Manager could then see the difference with AWB’s 20 minute cameo and, I’m sure, has now made up his mind. If Coufal does lose his place - seems likely - he can’t moan that the manger hadn’t given him a chance to retain the shirt. As I said, sound management."

"LAF 3:16 Sun Aug 25 I’d say the opposite. Lopetegui is alarmingly playing the same crap players we have spent a lot on replacing. We were pretty poor for an hour having threatened very little in the final third, and it was AWB coming on that turned the match. He gave Bowen more space to get involved in the match and in a 10 minute spell carved them open twice. Having gone two up, exactly like Moyes’ tactics we then sat back and went 5 at the back inviting pressure. A good result but a fortunate clean sheet and where our best attacks come from counter attacks. So a long way to go in improving how we attack in the final third. That said it’s good to see us playing out from the back more and with Todibo and AWB starting regularly we will look a lot better."

"...""Staying in Menorca with some Frog mates""... Hope you manage to keep your hands off the tadpoles - the government has no need for a ""Maddie 2 - this time it's serious"" story just yet."

"Strong bench yesterday as well, think we will have a good season, someone made an excellent point about Fullkrug's movement for Bowens goal, he also was involved in Soucek's goal before the ball broke to him."

"Agree about the false 9… I too had thought that’s a good way to go against City, Arsenal, Liverpool… can see Summerville, Kudus and Bowen working well in that set up."

"What impresses me about how we’re being managed is the chances Lupi is giving Moyes’ players to keep or surrender their shirt. Two games in and early assessments appear that Coufal and Antonio are looking the most vulnerable. Classy management in providing opportunities to prove themselves, whilst allowing many of the new brigade time to settle in."

I was right about getting rid of Moyes . Bringing that ball out of defence and laying it on for the 2nd goal was a lovely bit of true football.

Very impressive from Kilman for the second goal. Great surge forward and a very good defence splitting pass for Bowen.

That's the best 'sexy football' we've played in a long time. That second goal was a joy to watch.

"threesixty 10:51 Sat Aug 24 I've been thinking the same thing about the false 9. If we're going to play a slower possession game rather than quickly pumping balls up to a CF and our full backs tend to play short passes rather than put crosses in then there's really not much point in having a traditional number 9. With Summerville on the left, Bowen and Kudus could swap positions throughout the game, and then have Fullkrug/Antonio as bench options if we need a plan B."

"Seeing a West Ham CB bringing the ball out of defence like that and setting up Bowen and then AWB rampaging down the flank was a sight to behold. A long way to go still in terms of our best eleven/formation, players settling in and who we can try to get out the door etc, but this win is a much needed shot in the arm and will boost everyone, well nearly everyone :-)"

People question Fullkrug’s relevance but completely overlook his role in Bowen’s goal. His run completely takes the defender out of the game to leave the space for Bowen. It’s the sort of intelligent centre forward play you don’t get from Antonio. He would peel right to make himself available and in doing so nullify Bowen and nake the defenders decision easy.

It's far too early of course to know if Lupi and all the new signings will work out but I have a sneaky feeling we might just surprise a few people this season and get back into Europe

"Disappointed when i saw the line ups, was wanting and hoping for some changes, but fair play to Lopu as although not convincing we got the job done. Good subs and nice to see so many options on the bench, thought Alverez coming on when he did was well timed, that seemed to shore up midfield and they never looked likely to get a goal back after that. Would imagine both he and AWB will start now against Man City. COYI"

"This was funny: 'Headline: https://www.hammers.news/columnist/two-players-should-never-start-for-west-ham-again-after-disgraceful-displays-vs-crystal-palace/' One of the two is Coufal - this Coufal from the same article: 'Vladimir Coufal – 6/10 (Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.5/10): Coufal has been a brilliant servant for the Hammers. But while he didn’t do a lot wrong, Wan-Bissaka showed what a major upgrade he will be within seconds of coming on.' Wankers"

"I think if AWB starts I do wonder whether it’s best not to play a striker or do the false 9 thing? We potentially have 2 ball playing full backs (Emerson, AWB). A front 3 of Summerville, Bowen and Kudus on the right with overlapping creative full backs will be an absolute nightmare for any defence. Just feel that our best formation prob. Doesn’t need a no.9. If Summerville starts to find the net, I do wonder what happens with Fullkreg… You do have to wonder whether Duran was the original plan here, cos I don’t know how fullkreg fits in as a regular player"
