EPL Index Report: West Ham Eye Former Star for Imminent Return The Lingard Saga: From City Ground to the Heart of West Ham A Return to West Ham Beckons With the echo of boots at Rush Green training ground, Jesse Lingard’s efforts are attracting attention once more. Following a spell away, West Ham sees promise in the former England international, hinting at a reunion. The anticipation surrounds a possible short-term offer for Lingard during this international hiatus. Yet, like a cautious director of a grand play, manager David Moyes seeks clarity in the script. He yearns for genuine commitment from Lingard before lighting up the stage with a final deal. A Glimpse of the Likely Future The whisper in the corridors suggests an incentivised deal, stretching till season’s end, coupled with an option clause. It comes as no surprise, especially when Moyes’ quest for augmenting the attacking arsenal saw hiccups, with prospective deals for Yuri Alberto and Hugo Ekitike not crossing the finish line. A Journey Filled with Twists Lingard, now without any tether after his Nottingham Forest tenure, carries memories of a year which many might deem forgettable. The stint at City Ground, under Steve Cooper’s guidance, failed to mirror the midfielder’s prior vigour. A barren run of 17 matches without a goal or assist, and just three appearances post-January paints the picture. Yet, it wasn’t Forest’s allure alone that swayed Lingard last summer. A package, rumoured to be worth £200,000 weekly, perhaps played its part. This decision brewed a storm during a match last August at City Ground where Hammers’ faithful expressed their disapproval in a rather dramatic manner. Rekindling Old Flames But before this whirlwind, Lingard once danced on West Ham’s pitch with elegance. Borrowed from Man United in the latter half of the 2020-21 season, he was no less than mesmerising at the London Stadium, with an enviable tally of nine goals and five assists in merely 16 outings. As reported by Daily Mail, if the stars align once again, West Ham might witness the revival of a prodigal talent, hoping for a repeat of past glories.

I hope Moyes reads that article and takes note of the fact that Soucek hardly features. Probably a forlorn hope.

DAILY RECORD Harry Souttar has confessed his time at Leicester City has been "tough" as he addressed the prospect of a loan exit which didn't come to pass before Deadline Day. Swansea City are set to appoint Aberdeen's Gavin Levey as their new head of youth. SCOTTISH SUN Ryan Kent has been challenged to up his game and reclaim his Fenerbahce spot. Sport Witness “I would stay in England” – South American suggests he regrets leaving West Ham Now retired, Walter López is a name few at West Ham United will likely remember, mostly because he only made six appearances for the club during the 2008-09 season. Five of those were in the Premier League, as he came off the bench each time for a total of 19 minutes of football, while final one was a start in the league cup in a 1-0 loss to Watford. The former West Ham defender has been interviewed by Numero Diez in Italy, a country he spent most of his playing career in, where he was asked about his time with the Hammers. He immediately addressed his lack of playing time with the Premier League club, but made it clear that it’s something he would do all over again. López said: “There is no regret for not having found space, because when I arrived at West Ham, I was very young. Indeed, at the end of the season, during the last day of training, Gianfranco Zola and the sporting director Gianluca Nani asked me if I wanted to renew my contract and stay another year. I had expressed to him my desire to go away to play, and for this reason Nani took me to Brescia. “I have always remained on very good terms with both of them, and, in fact, I was lucky enough to make five appearances in the best league in the world. I’m very happy with the path I have taken and I’m very proud of having arrived there, but if I had to make this choice again, I would stay in England. If I had a client who doesn’t play there and asked me for advice, I would tell him to try his luck in the Premier League.” López had arrived at West Ham on a free transfer from River Plate in Uruguay in September of 2008 and left on a free transfer for CA Cerro in his home country for free in July of the next year. He then went on loan to Brescia and FC U Craiova in Romania before transferring to Peñarol, where a loan to Paraguay for Cerro Porteño took place. López then spent most of his time in Italy with Lecce, Benevento, Spezia, Ternana and Salernitana before finishing his career at Triestina in 2022. Everton News Report: Everton ready to challenge West Ham to sign teenage attacker now Everton are targeting Glentoran’s George Feeney. That’s according to the Belfast Telegraph, who have reported that the Toffees are one of six Premier League clubs chasing the teenager. Feeney, who is only 15 years old, has already featured for the club’s senior team after making his debut last week in their County Antrim Shield win over Crusaders. The forward’s impressive cameo led to him making his first league appearance off the bench in their 4-2 win at Newry City at the weekend. Feeney, who is in the Glentoran Academy and Irish FA JD Academy, has attracted plenty of attention from the English top flight and was reportedly watched by a number of scouts at The Glens’ reserve match against Cliftonville last night. The youngster already has a name to live up to at Glentoran as he is the son of manager and former Northern Ireland striker, Warren. Warren Feeney made 46 caps and scored five times for his country, while Warren Senior played for both Glentoran and the national team in 1976 and George’s great grandfather Jimmy played twice for Ireland – meaning the teenager could be the fourth generation of the family to eventually feature at international level. George Feeney has spoken out about potential move amid Everton interest Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph this summer, the youngest Feeney said: “My grandad is my biggest fan and always going on about playing for Northern Ireland so there’s a big family feel to it. I’m really enjoying the training (at the Academy) which is preparing me for a possible move across the water. “As long as I get a cap I will be happy. It will be four generations of the family playing for Northern Ireland and it will be massive and emotional. My dad always goes on about his career so hopefully I can get more caps than him!” Everton will reportedly compete with Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Sheffield United for the 15-year-old’s signature. Premier League How West Ham trio have filled Rice void Adrian Clarke says form of Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Lucas Paqueta means Declan Rice's departure has not been felt West Ham’s brand-new central midfield axis has got off to the perfect start. It was almost impossible for them to replace Declan Rice with one midfielder, but the two players brought in by David Moyes have quickly combined with Lucas Paqueta to great effect, giving the Hammers a dream start to the season While snap judgements should be avoided until a sample size of only 175 minutes together on the pitch grows, Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Lucas Pacqueta have undeniably clicked as a unit. In a 3-1 success at Brighton & Hove Albion, they showcased their defensive responsibilities quite brilliantly throughout, performing with discipline and determination. And last time out in a 2-1 win at Luton Town, a match where West Ham had over 61 per cent of possession, their combined quality on the ball came to the fore. It is a well-balanced trio with athleticism, bite, and high levels of technical skill. Ready for City West Ham produced a top-class counter attacking display against a Brighton side who led the pass count 749-208 at Amex Stadium. Working exceptionally hard to protect their goalkeeper, West Ham enjoyed ideal preparation for a match at home to reigning champions Manchester City. Tactically you would expect Moyes to back his players to repeat that collective effort and he now knows he can trust a midfield of Alvarez, Ward-Prowse and Lucas Paqueta in this type of encounter. As shown on their combined defensive chalkboard from the match, they did an outstanding job from deep inside their own half. If they frustrate City early on at London Stadium, belief will grow that they can hold firm before springing dangerous breaks of their own. Tackles won, recoveries, interceptions, blocks & clearances v Brighton Brazilian star Lucas Paqueta has been in scintillating form. His gorgeous left-footed cross for Jarrod Bowen at Kenilworth Road was one of the best assists of the season so far - and his general play has been brimming with enthusiasm and class. Playing to the left of centre, at times mirroring the position Rice occupied, he is doing his best to make sure their former captain’s presence is not missed. Effectively doubling the number of successful ball recoveries Lucas Paqueta makes per 90 minutes compared to last season, the 26-year-old is working exceptionally hard to show he is a reliable team player. He leads the way for ball recoveries and tackles won in the Premier League so far this season. Settling in Ward-Prowse has taken no time at all to settle into his new surroundings at West Ham following his move from Southampton. He has supplied three assists and a goal already and is always looking to get onto the ball. Averaging 42.4 passes per match, Ward-Prowse is taking a lot of responsibility whenever they have possession and his goal at Brighton in Matchweek 3 typified his all-round qualities. Initially Ward-Prowse made a fine interception inside his own half before picking out Michail Antonio with a long pass to spring a turnover attack. And just seconds later, making a lung-busting run to support his striker, Ward-Prowse broke into the box to score from Antonio’s square pass. Alvarez has added experience and aggression to the base of West Ham's midfield. The Mexico international is excellent at screening the back four, and is not afraid to step in and make challenges. When West Ham have been put under pressure the 25-year-old has also acted as an auxiliary central defender to good effect. Dropping back like team-mate Tomas Soucek does, Alvarez has repelled a lot of early-season attacks. No Premier League midfielder has made more clearances per 90 minutes. It is early days, and the might of Man City will greatly test West Ham’s new midfield this weekend, but the early signs are positive. An area many supporters feared would be weakened by Rice’s departure has actually become stronger.

Thanks Alan. I can’t see anything wrong with a short term incentive contract, with options for longer terms. He was great last time he was with us, so why not give it a go? It’s a cheap gamble and if he does want to get it back, this will suit him and, dare I suggest it, us too.

If anyone else is interested in Lingard, I'd step aside and let him get on with it. I reckon he'll be more trouble than he's worth - he doesn't have the same motivating factors he had last time around, and THIS time, all the London nightlife will be open and available to him...

Why would anyone in their right mind join Man Utd. They are desperatey trying to offload Bailly and van der Beek and have now also cast Sancho aside, not to mention Maguire etc... it really is a graveyard of lost talent. Player for player I can't think of too many Man Utd players I would fit into our starting XI at the moment. Rashford (at the top of his game) ahead of Benny, just, would be about the only one. Very surprised if they finish in the top six this season.
