I suspect that the server and therefore this site are on their last legs. The posters are few and far between but it is still very slow. I tried to post on here today and twice it timed out on me then when I finally managed to post it came up three times on the same thread.

As I have said before they are a hosting company and would be very switched to that sort of thing as it is, literally, their business at risk. If it was hackable it already would have been. I work as web developer for a charity and we get drive by attacks on a daily basis even the odd DDOS one. The code is another matter but I doesn't look as though it might be prone to a little Bobby Tables SQL injecton attack. It is defintely the datbase on its last legs and there are a few ways in which MySQL can manifest this sort of behaviour a couple of which are easily fixable. Updating to MariaDB (which is a drop-in replacement) wouold be start as it fixes the broken query optimizer. Without the login credentials we can do nothing."

Wils Yes I've mentioned about re-indexing the DB about a billion times. It seems they don't have the admin rights to access the server or DB. Although I'm sure someone could hack it.

I say that as when it's slow the the DB connection often times out and the site is peppered with Mysql timeout errors. A quick tune up of the DB- a reindex perhaps? - is what is needed."

Does anybody have an idea about roughly when the site started playing up? It can't really be excessive demand on the server as there's only about 3 users left - and 2 of them are my other user names. Maybe site admin switched over to 64k dial-up on the last renewal to save money...

If a copy of the site software is available (without any user details) I could set up a clone on my NAS for those so inclined to have a play with and/or run some updates for others to comment on. It will not serve as a replacement site though as neither my main NAS or it's mirror in Thailand have adequate access bandwidth. I've been meaning to push the request for the software site admin/site owners' way for a few weeks but simply have not had the time.
