Re: Can a mod reboot the server?
I suspect that the server and therefore this site are on their last legs. The posters are few and far between but it is still very slow. I tried to post on here today and twice it timed out on me then when I finally managed to post it came up three times on the same thread.

"I suspect the best that can be done from the outside is to front-end the domain/server with a ""leaky bucket"" which can be optimised to send requests to the server at a speed that prevents the repeated crashes and log-outs."

"I never knew about ITBS either, a quick google search brings you to this however.. ''I've been a member here for a while now and all i can say is this is the most boring west ham forum i have ever been on. Both Westhamonline and KUMB have there wankers on it who know nothing about anything but at least they comment at a frequent rate. I really cannot believe how poor this forum is and it could be so much better if they just made a few small changes. Please use this topic as a way of saying what changes you would like to make on ITBS.''"
Re: Can a mod reboot the server?
I’ve hacked it and used it as a back door into all your phones and watched you all sat there having a shit. I may have masturbated
Re: Can a mod reboot the server?
"""Although I'm sure someone could hack it."" I very much doubt that. As I have said before they are a hosting company and would be very switched to that sort of thing as it is, literally, their business at risk. If it was hackable it already would have been. I work as web developer for a charity and we get drive by attacks on a daily basis even the odd DDOS one. The code is another matter but I doesn't look as though it might be prone to a little Bobby Tables SQL injecton attack. It is defintely the datbase on its last legs and there are a few ways in which MySQL can manifest this sort of behaviour a couple of which are easily fixable. Updating to MariaDB (which is a drop-in replacement) wouold be start as it fixes the broken query optimizer. Without the login credentials we can do nothing."

"If North Bank is paying for it, I assume his email address is stored with the ISP (easyspace?). So it's likely that the IsP can just reset the control panel username and password with the right email address. Alternatively, wait till the domain runs out next year and start afresh on a new provider."

Re: Can a mod reboot the server?
Until I read this thread last week I had no idea there was another West Ham forum called ITBS. Searched for it and it’s still going albeit with not much traffic it seems.
Re: Can a mod reboot the server?
Wils Yes I've mentioned about re-indexing the DB about a billion times. It seems they don't have the admin rights to access the server or DB. Although I'm sure someone could hack it.
Re: Can a mod reboot the server?
"""Does anybody have an idea about roughly when the site started playing up? It can't really be excessive demand on the server"" I suspect it's to do withe size of the DB. I say that as when it's slow the the DB connection often times out and the site is peppered with Mysql timeout errors. A quick tune up of the DB- a reindex perhaps? - is what is needed."

Re: Can a mod reboot the server?
Does anybody have an idea about roughly when the site started playing up? It can't really be excessive demand on the server as there's only about 3 users left - and 2 of them are my other user names. Maybe site admin switched over to 64k dial-up on the last renewal to save money...

Re: Can a mod reboot the server?
If a copy of the site software is available (without any user details) I could set up a clone on my NAS for those so inclined to have a play with and/or run some updates for others to comment on. It will not serve as a replacement site though as neither my main NAS or it's mirror in Thailand have adequate access bandwidth. I've been meaning to push the request for the software site admin/site owners' way for a few weeks but simply have not had the time.

"""I see most sites these days have an s, https:// rather than the old http:// that WHO still has."" The 's' is for 'secure'. It won't speed up the site by making it secure, if anything the opposite. But you should not use the same password as you do for banking. As it's very easy for people to see your password when you log in over insecure http."

"I see most sites these days have an s, https:// rather than the old http:// that WHO still has. Not sure what that is about, but can we get an s and would that help? I only have problem on match days, all other times WHO is generally fine for me."
