Lower division clubs you like and dislike

Post Nutsin »

"I use to keep an eye on Orient for years but was turned off when they got involved in the Olympic Stadium decision. I like to see Coventry do well, they’ve been through it over recent years. Stoke is one I always hope to see lose. Them and Millwall of course. Who do you keep an eye on?"

"I have soft spot for Morecambe FC as I lived there when I was a student and watched them a few times. There in the depths of the FA structure and are the only team where I have thought ""I could do better than that"" and probably been right. The cricket club was a completely different kettle of fish. First time I watched them Ravi Shastri was the club pro and smashed it all over the place for 150+ and then took a fivefer."

I went to a local game Hendon v Dorchester town on Saturday played in atrocious conditions albeit on an artificial pitch in front of no more than 150 supporters including a dog.

"I don’t like Dagenham much, but Redbridge is quite acceptable. So if I go to Dagenham and Redbridge fc I suppose I’d cheer half the team and boo the rest. If Moyes ever gets the manager’s job there, I will stay away though."

"Paulon Good point, well made, though I think we can all agree that I'll be right about Palace again in a season or two. Arsenal, too, rather more hopefully comma Very poor Googling skills. There's more to life than 1 Wiki entry. The original amateur club was formed in 1861 as the football section of the already existing cricket club founded in 1857. They played in Crystal Palace Park - named after, um, the Crystal Palace. The surrounding area (still not a town or city, even today, just contiguous outskirts of about five other towns) around the park was developed and eventually became similarly named after the nearby building. The club sure as hell isn't named after a town or city and in fact doesn't even share its name with a proper one."

"Crystal Palace is a leafy and hilly area in South London, named after the Crystal Palace Exhibition building which stood in the area from 1854, until it was destroyed by fire in 1936. About 7 miles southeast of Charing Cross, it includes one of the highest points in London, at 367 feet, offering views over the capital. Wikipedia"

Thanks White Pony Yeh York Road is classic. Some funny memories going as a kid. Even reported in the advertiser as hooligans and denied any involvement when questioned by my mother!

"White Pony, I think in the end Maidenhead are staying in York Road and shelved the move to Braywick? It would be shame if they moved as York Riad is the oldest continuously used football stadium in the world."

I keep an eye out for Folkestone Invicta as used to stand on the terraces there when I was a teenager. Also Maidenhead United (where I live now) and Bath City (where I work). Also like Bristol Rovers as used to live there and work at their ground.

Always have a bit of a soft spot for Plymouth Argyle. Used to take the kids to watch them when I was based there in my Navy days. I was determined that they wouldn’t grow up to be Glory Hunters !

Played football manager a few years ago. Affiliated with Mansfield and with the players I loaned them for the seasons they came up through the divisions and into the premier league and for some unknown reason I look out for their results now to see if they've won. Spent most of my childhood down Devon/Cornwall for family holidays and whenever there if Torquay were at home me and the old man would find a way to get to the games so same with them. I hate Bolton. Allardyce and Jay-Jay okocha dancing like baboons that year they sent us down plays a big part in my hatred for them

Shrewsbury have grown on me recently due to picking up a few quid backing them in accas at decent odds. They played some nice football at times last season also..
