The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
Going back decades. When West Ham played at Chelsea in Oct '67 . It rained all day and even getting to the ground I was soaked through .Standing at the 'shed' end which was open terraces in those days there was no shelter. At least West Ham won3-1 but I was ill for days afterwards.

"Not a West Ham game, but an England match Luxembourg v England 25 years ago, 1998 Euro 2000 qualifier, won 0-3, Owen, Shearer & Southgate scored. Rained the whole game in an open end. We kipped in our car after the game in soaking clothes, was not fun !"

"That Plymouth game was horrendous. I think we only had some of the ground open - lowest attendance I've ever been to at Upton Park (5,409) Plymouth bought 52 supporters. We counted them."

"Cozenza in the Anglo Italian Cup in 1992 - it stopped raining before kick off but by then I was drenched, didn't get properly dried out for days"
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
Not the wettest but the coldest was I think 85/86 although not sure when we were due to play Southampton I think at home and we got to the ground to find out that the game had been called off due to a frozen pitch. No mobiles or google in those days and many others had been caught out so in the queue to get on the tube it was freezing.

Possibly for Nursey and the other ladies - when Redknapp signed Dani in the 90s?
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"I remember brighton away in 89, iirc we were unbeaten up until that match. It absolutely pissed down on that big open crumbling terrace of theirs at the goldstone and we were 0-3 down at half time. To top it off, Brady missed a penalty early second half. Watford away the previous season (i think) was the only match I've turned up to that was then called off (torrential rain)."
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"Not a West Ham game but a curious phenomenon. When son no.2 was about 8/9, he played for a local club. Whenever they had a match I would go and watch as you do. The weather would be OK as you got out of your car, but by the time you reached the touchline, it was always be something like the arctic. The five layers you had on still wouldn't be enough. The coaches were certifiable and would have the boys continue playing even during blizzards when half the team was crying from the cold. Never happier to get back to my car after one of those."

Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"I have 2 coldest games. Plymouth at home in 1989/90 in the full members cup. There was only about 5000 there. It was about -5c that night. I was so cold that I had to sit on the wall to get my feet off the cold concrete. We were losing 2-1 with a minute left, but no one cared. Then Dolan scored the equaliser to muted celebration. The policeman in front of me shouted 'the bastard! We were that close to going home. ' indicating about. 5 inch with gloved fingers. We then scored another 3 that no one remembers.. The other game was v Birmingham in 2010 when the Italian with dreads was with us. It was about -5 again. I caught a bus to Canning Town after. Saw a bloke in pyjamas standing in a shop doorway in Plaistow. Hopefully someone helped him , but I wasn't getting off.."

Grim Newcastle home! Forgot about that one. Wasn’t this game where it had been postponed twice? Recall the rain was torrential and seem to recall we scuppered Newcastles title hopes Think cottee/Dowie scored last minute

"Sunderland's a weird place. One year (forget which), it was a pleasant Spring day in the Town Centre, and bitter Winter at Roker Park"
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"Newcastle at home mid 90s? I lived in East Ham at the time but got caught out and drenched through before I had even crossed the sewer bank. Glad to say the game was called off, next home game everyone was wearing waterproof jackets just in case."

I remember pretty much getting to the ground when they called off a game against Coventry(?) just before kick off due to the cold.
