Sven-Goran Eriksson has terminal cancer

Post Fauxstralian »

"Cancer really is a cսnt bbc Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson says he has ""best case a year"" to live after being diagnosed with cancer. ""I'm going to resist for as long as I can,"" Eriksson told Swedish Radio P1. ""I have an illness that's serious. Best case a year, I have worst case a lot less. It's impossible to say exactly, so it's better to not think about it."" Eriksson, who had a 42-year career in management, learned of his cancer diagnosis ""almost one year ago"" and stood down from his most recent role as sporting director at Swedish club Karlstad 11 months ago because of health issues. ""I live a totally normal life,"" Eriksson told BBC World Service's Sporting Witness. ""I'm not in hospital, I go now and then for a visit but I live at home and I have friends here. Christmas and New Year, the whole family were here - a lot of people. ""I'm going out to try and exercise as much as possible, which is less than it was one year ago, but I have a normal life. ""When you get a message like that, you appreciate every day and you are happy when you wake up in the morning and you feel OK, so that's what I'm doing. ""I thought I was fully healthy but suddenly I had a small stroke so I fell and my children took me to the hospital. ""After one day of examination they told me I had five small strokes, but said 'no problem, you will recover 100% from that', but worse is they said I have cancer which they can't operate on. ""They said they will give me treatment and medicine to try and live as long as possible. I have that diagnosis and they can't operate, unfortunately."""

"Always thought he was nice enough though. In those World Cups his midfield had the likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Joe Cole, Beckham, Scholes, Hargreaves, Butt, Dyer, Carrick, I mean how do you fit them all in along with strikers Owen, Rooney, Fowler, Sheringham etc?! Blessed with too many is never a good thing."

"Zico - Agreed, he would have kopped a load of stick. A few years ago a mate of mine was adamant Sven should have played a DM type, he wouldn't have it any other way, was totally convinced he was right. He's a Spurs fan though and they're all pricks, a mate or not. Above all else we will never know of course. I quite enjoyed his spell too, 8 years wasn't it, was never convinced he was a top coach though and always thought he was a bit corrupt tbh, or at best dodgy. Seem to remember he lost a few quid in some type of 'nvestment' one time, turned out to be a ponzi scheme, something like that."

"Manuel, hence why Carrick probably didn't get as many games as he could have done. Sven was always on a hiding to nothing from press or the fans when you think about it. Now we can argue about changing shape or leaving out one of Lampard or Gerrard but at the time you can imagine the crap he would have got leaving one of them out. Plus one up top in those days, maybe Rooney could have done it but I think he came in later in Sven's reign,. Could Owen have played as a solo striker? All if's and but's. Enjoyed Sven's years to be honest, that 5-1 against Germany is still a classic and wasn't the brilliant 3-2 friendly win over Argentina under Sven?"

"There has been this theory that he fucked up by not leaving out either Scholes, Lampard or Gerrard or Cole for a more defensive type of player, Nicky Butt or the like. But yea probably fair to say he didn't get the rub of the green in the crunch games."

"We were also cheated in 2004 when we had a perfectly good injury time winner disallowed for no reason. Apart from that, we suffered from being over cautious and timid when it came to the crunch. We took the lead against Brazil, France and Portugal and then sat back and played within ourselves. Injuries to Beckham, Owen and Rooney didn’t help."

He has just revealed that it's pancreatic cancer. You don't want any sort but that's a particularly bastard of a cancer as it's always pretty advanced by the time you get symptoms. I think they only found it by accident as he was in hospital after suffering a series of strokes. Always had a bit of sympathy with Sven for the Golden Generation. He did a really good honest interview on Sky a few years ago. It's easy to say he maybe should have played one up top with five in midfield or something but he had some really good strikers like Owen and Rooney so who do you drop? Even Heskey did a great job alongside a smaller man. Maybe a diamond would have been better but in those days there were so many good midfielders even quality players like Carrick never got much of a chance.

As said fine margins getting beaten by Ronaldinhos 40 yarder and a couple of penalty exits. Plus if Rooney hadnt got injured in 2004 England may well have won the Euros That said he had some good players but needed to pick Gerrard OR Lampard and not mess Scholes about

"Always sad to hear news like this, but he has led a very good life, imagine being Sven for a few years making a living in the game you love, not to mention the fanny he seems to have plundered along the way!!! no doubt due to the fame and fortune football gave him. And its not like he would still have years ahead of him, 75 isn't he? decent if not spectacular innings. He underachieved with England i thought, could have been a whole lot better considering what he had to work with, another appointment the FA got wrong...."

"A year to live? He told Roy Castle he his going to try and do it in 6 months. It is sad of course, but as said he isn't young and has had a great, full life and I doubt if he wants any sympathy, my old man didn't when In a similar position. However, I cant go along with this great coach stance, he totally wasted the 'golden generation' and apart from his Lazio stint can't really remember where he did that well, but no doubt someone will prove me wrong. The last 10 years or so he has just jumped from crap job to crap job just topping up his pension, so for me a vastly overrated coach and a bit of a chancer to boot."

"Always thought we should have made the final in 2002, played not to lose againts Nigeria when a win would have seen England win the group and avoid Brazil. Even in the Brazil game we didnt really have a go at them when they went down to 10 men, the game just petered out. I hope he enjoys what time he has left."

"In the three tournaments he managed England, we lost twice to Portugal on penalties and got knocked out by the Ronaldinho free kick that evaded Seaman. Will always be fondly remembered for demolishing Germany in their own back yard. Was a decent England manager until the News of the World fucked him over"

"A real shame. Always liked him and enjoyed watching England under him for the most part. Hated How Scholes was wasted and FLJ accommodated at all costs though, although that wasn't Sven-specific. Thought Sven dealt well with being the first non-Englishman to manage us, given what we can be like."

Still haven't forgiven him for not taking Harewood to the World Cup and taking Theo fucking Walcott instead.

Far. Many people have been inside 4x4. But we always have Munich.! Don’t forget to put the dishwasher on. Thank you Sven.
