"One of the things that gets me about VAR is that when the ref is called to look at the monitor he is often shown only certain angles. For the Phillips penalty, on TV they had one angle from behind the goal that clearly showed there was no chance that Phillips could have been aware of Gordon and stopped himself from hitting him when he swung his foot. The ref wasn't shown that angle at all, only ones from the side which made it look more like a 50/50. I've seen this sort of thing happen many times now. Don't know if it's a unconscious bias on the VAR's part or what."

I only saw the second haff live. Just brought myself to watch the highlights and both penalties were fouls on the West Ham players. How many Saudi Riyals does that kind of service cost? Or have they changed the rules to say if you foul a defender in the box you get a free goal?

"A Villa fan commented on one of our YouTube channels, said at half time last week we were all over them. Said as soon s second half began they all couldn't believe as we changed tactics and sat back and invited them on as they were on the ropes at half time. Said he was watching the Newcastle game and couldn't believe it when we did exactly the same again. A Newcastle fan agreed with him said they were dead and buried heads were down then we handed them the initiative, both agreed we deserved better than Moyes"

Same old cowardly tactics from Moyes cost us 3 points. Bringing on Cornet or Ings for Antonio would have finished them off instead Moyes brings on Philips to shut up shop. Deserved what we got regardless of iffy decisions.

"Re MOTD - on BBC 5 Live, Stephen Warnock said Moyes was a bit naive when taking Antonio off for Phillips, as it changed the dynamic of the game. As near to criticism in the media as I can find. But he didn't repeat it during his MOTD analysis."

fraser 1:06 Sun Mar 31 VAR can check for red cards so should have checked the Burn foul as it was probably a goal scoring opportunity.

Moyes's cowardly substitutions and handing the initiative to Newcastle was the reason we lost... they had a totally different defence following a number of injuries which shouldve motivated Moyes to batter them but just as he did against Burnley and Villa Moyes lets the opposition off the hook and we lose or inevitably drop points... its just so frustrating... this league is really poor this season the mid-tablers are beating each other... how we are still seventh is a miracle but with other teams with games in hand it wont last... Moyes over and out...

3-1 up so Moyes replaces Anttonio with Calamity Phillips and hands the initiative back Ings had an excellent 10 mins v Burnley where he could have had a hat-trick so has played a couple of minutes since Moyes is nothing but consistent in his negativity and timidity. 3 more points thrown away Looks like we will crawl to a midtable finish & anything but a hiding by Leverkusen home and away would be a surprise. A MASSIVE surprise

"Bottom line is that our midfield of Soucek and Prowse is very weak, any decent side will just cut through us they did. The defence is the same, too slow old Zouma is finished like a geriatric embarrassing. Coufal too old slow defending ok going forward although rare playing Moyesball. Agerd constant errors hopeless, same with Philips. Yes we have Bowen and Kudus always good for a goal or 2, but Spurs, Leverkusen et al will score for fun against us. Paqueta will be off in summer Sullivan will never turn £85m down for someone 27 in the summer. Liverpool want Bowen to replace Salah they will get big money from Saudis for, Bowen 28 this year Sullivan won't turn down £100m either. Kudus probably worth £150m at 23 noone will pay so staying. Moyes was a central defender has no excuses for our abysmal defence, he chose the defenders and midfielders."

"From a Toon blog:- As I said in the post-match write-up, I felt that the decision to award Newcastle a penalty, while gratefully accepted, was probably a bit harsh on West Ham. Gordon just stuck his foot between Kalvin Phillips' foot and the ball giving him no option but to kick him - it was clever by Gordon, careless by Phillips but also probably unavoidable. Had it gone against us we'd have been livid, and seeing a similar one not given in the game between Bournemouth and Everton, it just shows how lucky we were."

"Looking for a crumb of comfort, how good was Kudus yesterday? For 70 mins until he tired as he was defending as much as attacking, he was so quick and strong. Got to keep him when Moyes departs this summer ( yesterday was pivotal or a tipping point Im thinking as we wont make europe next season without qualification going down to 12th place ) . We will lose Paqueta ( we need the money for rebuild ) but have to keep this lad surely? I will also be closely watching Osman at Brighton next season as he develops. If he becomes anything like as successful as his compatriot Kudus, the decision to pass on bringing him in ( recommendation of Steidten and new scout / recruitment team ) will further blot the dismal transfer dealings of both Moyes and Sullivan. The latter supposedly advised by Silkman that the veryinexperienced youngster was not good value. And Moyes insistence on getting Phillips also a factor."

"I don't think VAR can check an incident outside the area unless it's for dangerous play they can only check for penalties. Gordon planted his foot in front of Phillips to try to impede him and stop us breaking, probably expected to trip him. Probably thought he'd get a yellow not a penalty. Thee was not attempt to play the ball."

"....also Burn's challenge on Kudus was a foul and it wasn't even checked. You can clearly see Kudus was moving towards the ball to control it and take it on, whilst Burn is just barging into him at speed and makes no attempt to move towards or play the ball at that speed it's reckless and a foul that prevented a goal scoring opportunity, not shoulder to shoulder."

"Anyone who's played the game at any level knows that wasn't penalty, not even in Sunday League. Wasn't clear or obviously a penalty and wasn't a clear and obvious mistake by the ref. What we have now with VAR is busy bodies trying to be clever and trying to justify their job by looking for an excuse to use VAR and give their opinion. They wouldn't dare get involved if that's for the away team and definitely not at Old Trafford, Afield etc... against the big clubs. There was a similar incident with Bowen at A field this season and it wasn't even checked."

"I don't think it was a penalty and I know it wasn't the reason we lost. They missed two absolute sitters prior to Phillips coming on we just stopped playing. We did the same against Sheff Utd at home this season at 2 - 0 up but they didn't have the weapons to hurry us.. Bowen said after that game we decided to settle for what we had. When they missed the two sitters I thought we've got away with it twice now lwaen and start playing again. But he didn't he decided to bring Phillips on and you could see what was about to happen... We swapped playing to our strengths to playing to our weaknesses, every attack they looked like they were going to score, even after going down to ten they had the better chances."

"If that is Kudus doing what Gordon did at the other end, and the ref didn't give it, there would be another thread started about corrupt officiating. We have had more than our fair share of dodgy decisions the last couple of seasons, stop blaming refs for us being shit."
