Re: Wimbledon 2024
More competition from more countries these days & don’t think tennis is as popular with kids as it was in those days. Think DeMinaur is 9th in the world but haven’t a genuine contender since Hewitt & Rafter 20 years ago

"Fauxstralian - What's happened to men's tennis in Australia? Laver, Emerson, Rosewell, Newcombe, Hewitt, Rafter etc won loads of grand slams between them??"

"Nick Kyrgios in an England team hoodie with a Phil Foden haircut Alcaraz 2 months past his 21st birthday with 2 Wimbledon’s, & a French & US Open Some of the others need to step up or he will be racking them up"

Re: Wimbledon 2024
I know she's getting on a bit but doesn't the Duchess of Kent normally attend and present the trophy to the women's final?

Re: Wimbledon 2024
I see the Princess of Wales will attend the mens final but there was no Royal attendance for the womens final Meanwhile the Prince of Wales will be in Berlin Surely both should have been in Australia watching the WALES rugby team? Alcaraz v Djokovic ... reckon it might be Alcaraz in 4 or 5

Re: Wimbledon 2024
Well done to Krejcikova ; In an open field she becomes the eighth different winner in the last eight years .
Re: Wimbledon 2024
"Fauxstralian 9:40 Fri Jul 12 Correct about the Sampras era, I think only one of his finals went to five sets which is dominant even in comparison to Borg who had three of his five wins going to five sets. It's characters though and it's the same with most sports, they are all so professional and robotic these days it's not quite as fun as Connors and McEnroe slagging each other off from both sides of the net! Pleased for Krejcikova today though, nice tribute to Jana Novotna."

Re: Wimbledon 2024
"These individual sports come down to the appeal to the public and the quality of a few individuals creating rivalries It’s the end of a golden era of Federer, Nadal & Djokovic and you are looking at the likes of Alcaraz & Sinner (& hopefully others) to step up. The generation of 25yo’s have been a disappointment hence the big 3 dominating into their mid 30’s There are always ebbs & flows but you want at least 2 or 3 at the same level. My recollection of the Sampras era was that it was a one man show at Wimbledon… think he won 7 out of 8"

Re: Wimbledon 2024
"A bit like golf, there seems to be a lack of interest in this shit these days, the fact that it's more interest in seeing who is there watching says it all. Haven't seen a single stroke yet, so to speak, but if it's an Alcarez Jock final I might have a look Sunday before the game."

Re: Wimbledon 2024
The standard of tennis has gone down ridiculously in recent years . Cannot name a woman player now . Even in the Federer Nadal djorkavic and Murray era .it Lacked the depth of the Borg McEnroe lendl Connors Becker edberg agassi and and Sampras era .

"At 37 & with his knee that’s such a stroke of luck for Djokovic to have a break til Friday Probably Fritz in his semi Terrible for DeMinaur , reckons he felt his hip crack in the last few points of his last match Will be out for 3 to 6 weeks but playing would have turned that into months"
