MK Dons bought out by Kuwait-based consortium

Post bobbymoore »

"Great news for the city and my home town. Club and shopping district all bought. The club have no debt and can start the tough ask of rishing up the leagues. Hopefully they can become an established championship team within the next 3-5 years. I know the club gets the hate, but the reality is that if Pete Winkleman didn't buy the club, Wimbledon would have gone bust. MK Army!!!! https://www.mkdons.com/news/2024/august/09/change-of-ownership/"

"Alfs 4:59 Tue Aug 13 I think you have to consider that Wimbledon had only been in the Football League for 10 years when they won the FA cup. Most adults in the area would have already been supporters of Chelsea or Fulham and passed that support on to their kids. I remember discussing the Milton Keynes move on here 20 years ago. A lot of Essex blokes going on about Wimbledon's lack of local support, when they should themselves have been supporting clubs like Southend or Dagenham & Redbridge instead of West Ham."

I've often thought the old Wimbledon should have merged with Millwall while they still hadPL status. They had what each other needed.

"I lived in Southfields when Wimbledon did the amazing and beat Liverpool in the FA cup final. Me and my flat mate headed into Wimbledon town centre that night expecting utter raucousness. It was dead. Hardly anyone around, like a Tuesday night in mid winter. Based on that experience I can't blame the owners moving the club. They didn't seem to have any local support. I do love the after story of how the new Wimbledon came about. That would make a good movie."

"If football was sufficiently popular in Milton Keynes, then the ""organic"" local team, Milton Keynes City, would've become a proper club, and all the shenanigans over Wimbledon would never have happened. Instead, said shenanigans helped finish off MK City"

I used to bunk in to Plough Lane when I was a kid. Along the river Wandle and under a gap in the fence. There was an old Dons fan called Cardew Robinson ( a Comedian) who once said he'd seen more people at an orgy than at the Dons

"Don't care about the football club but am glad afc Wimbledon made something of a comeback, starting over again at the very bottom and regaining football league status. As for the town, it gets a lot of criticism from people who have spent no time there. I lived there for about 6 years a while back and it is more than decent, all in all, a good place to live."

I don't mind MK because I hated Wimbledon and was glad when they were gone. But I think they should ditch the Dons name and remove any link to the scummy crazy gang. Maybe MK Concrete Cows.

"MK Dons/Wimbledon were smaller that a little acorn when I first got into football, so they will always be smaller that a little acorn and never, ever a mighty oak, no matter how much is invested in them or how successful they become."

"Have to be up front here, I fucking detest Pete Winkelman and everything about MK Dons and their shameless fans. That cսnt stole a club from south London moved it almost 100 miles away while the corrupt FA turned a blind eye and ruined the lives of many Wimbledon supporter, all for what. Winkelman could've done what AFC Wimbledon did and .kept his head held high, as he's achieved fuck all with them other than keep them bobbing between division three and four I hope they get fucked off out of that two bob ground, it gets turned into another soulless trading estate that the area is full of and they end up playing on a cabbage patch in Oldbrooke"

"Do fuck off you excitable pillock, no one on here gives a fuck about a joke club and a shithole town like Milton 'fucking' Keynes, so why you telling us?? Go down to your high street Wetherspoons and discuss it with the local inbreds down there, fella. Oooohh, I'm a West Ham fan, but I weally love my local club still. Pathetic."
