I don’t think having not done anything as good as the Wire since is a criticism as arguably the Wire is one of the best television series ever created so its hard to top or even match it. Elba has done plenty of good stuff including Luther. West was very good in The Affair and many other things but saying nothing is as good as the Wire is not a slight on their careers. You could say that Damian Lewis has not been in anything as good as Band of Brothers but again that isn’t a criticism as not a lot out there is as good as Band of Brothers. That doesn’t mean what Damian Lewis has done since is a load of rubbish.

"Nothing as good as The Wire, fancy that, maybe they will take your critique on board. I thought Luther was brilliant, bordering disturbing, first couple of series anyway."

The Deuce was brilliant but the Me Too movement has all but ruined that kind of drama now. James Franco being implicated just exacerbated it all. Everything is sanitized now. Too scared to offend. I've lost my mojo as a writer lately as I feel so restricted about almost everything.

One of the best bits of tv you’ll ever see. The writers that did that also did the deuce. That was really good as well.
