No surprise that you are pondering them, you necrophiliac poof.Whoosh. That one went right over your head.It certainly did. Another piece of 'humour' understood only by perves and gayers, I guess.
Or people that are familiar with one of the best British comedies of all time

Re: Geoff Capes
A household name back then. Wouldn't be now though. Shows like superstars and worlds strongest man wouldn't get any interest today and would be on some random cable channel that nobody watches.
RIP big man.

Re: Geoff Capes
RIP Bluto.
as many have mentioned , absolute legend from childhood.
His name always reminds me of worlds strongest man and superstars.
Superstars... Friday home from school, Brian Jacks on the parallel bars.
Even the commentators were legends..David Vine and Ron Pickering.
now we have Sammy Matterface and Jimbo Proudfoot

Re: Geoff Capes
Sad news, remember him as a kid, didn't he win the worlds strongest man as well? remember that image of him pulling a lorry.
As mentioned, his other passion was Budgies, think it was Blue Peter they did a thing on him at his home with an aviary full of them, he used to breed and show them.
RIP big Fella

Re: Geoff Capes
Somebody used the phrase 'gentle giant' but apparently he really was.
My father-in-law was a central part of the GB athletics medical team in the 70s and 80s when Capes, Daley Thompson, Fatima Whitbread and Tessa Sanderson etc were all competing. As you'd expect, some were nicer than others, (all having that pro-athlete total focus with themselves), but Capes was one that apparently was just a nice and normal bloke away from competition.
Fair to say that he was one of the favourites amongst the whole of the team, both the other athletes and the wider organisation.

Ah shame.
A shiniing light in the throwing events as were generally pretty useless. Saw him a lot when I was a kid as my Dad loved athletics and we lived very close to Crystal Palace (Remember seeing motor races there too).
He seemed a genuinely lovely human being too.

This thread, which was going so well, is now in jeopardy as some total wankers have shown up.
