I didn't say our signings were good, just that they JWP was a worse one.. We have a free and a loan this season. JWP cost £25 million and stopped us signing Fofana.. He's at Forest and can't get much game time. We have him on a long contract.. Definitely a worse signing for me than the other two, maybe if we hadn't wasted the money on him we would have had the money to but a midfielder to improve the team.

Even if you think that about JWP, do you honestly think the likes of Soler and Rodriguez are going to be better and improve us?
If you are going to overplay how 'shit' a player like ward prowse is then I guess you are just as likely to say how good the likes of Rodriguez and Soler are..
Also, comparing Ward Prowse to Fofana is a waste of time. One is a West Ham player whom we have allowed to leave on loan. The other, never has nor will play for us.
Sticking to the opinion I first made, our transfer activity in the window just gone on our CM areas has made us weaker, not stronger.

I watched him play for us he was fucking shit and took every set piece so of course he had assists and created chances.
He's played 7 games this season for us and Forest, no assists, no goals and 2 shots.
We could have signed Fofana last season who is the type we still need now, but bought JWP instead, of course it was a massive mistake.

Re: WHUFC vs Man. Utd. (Home) | 27.10.24 | Official Match Thread
JWP is better than what has come in to supposedly be his replacement.
Last season he had the most goals and assists behind Bowen and Kudus only.
More touches, passes, chances created and assists than any other player.
Was second for ball carries, progressive passes and passes in the final third.
Not a bad signing at all and in fact a key player.
Yes looked average at times and relied alot on his set pieces. But now we lose Bowen as an option in the box for corners and free kicks where he was good at being in the right place at the right time.
He would get into our starting 11 easy based on the shit the current options are producing.

Re: WHUFC vs Man. Utd. (Home) | 27.10.24 | Official Match Thread
Sorry this is a bit late but had a hot date with a text about a study on self-regulation.
Anyway, my Three-Penny's Worth
The Score - it's about time luck went our way and it's great how when both sides really needed the points, they bottled it and we got all tree (and the Point-Headed One got the tin tack).
The Performance - disjointed and glacially slow when on the ball in the first half, being a watching Hammer was like having root-canal surgery. Both booked (unjustly I felt) players were hooked (correctly) at half time and we stepped up three gears with the introduction of Jimmy (arf!), Tobido the more direct Soucek. At last, having Emerson and AWB working the flanks made sense in terms of real goal threat and pressure (rather than leaving us exposed as either of Paqueta, Antonio or Soler failed to do anything with the ball) as our possession time reached levels unheard of in the Moyes era. At least Ings gets into the right position as a striker, Summerville finds the back of the net and Bowen is able to do what he is all about on the right.
The Manager - his failure to start with Summerville was addressed at half time. That's OK, but way too late as he was very lucky not to be five down by then. If he wants to play the high press wing-back game, he's got the personnel so he'd better learn to use them. Using Soler instead of Summerville is just outright ineptitude.
Lessons Learnt - Apart from the obvious about Summerville, one word about Bowen - he needs to be taken off corner-taking duty as it isn't working. Our one real attempt from numerous corners in the first half came from Soler's kick being headed narrowly wide by Paqueta. The latter has a job to do and I think it's Paqueta that should be taking the right-side corners, not Bowen. Also, Paqueta is better than Soucek playing deep in this kind of setup. Fabianski starts.
Next Game - Forest will not make the same mistakes as Man U; if we start like this again, they will win at a canter. But we have shown we can turn it on without Kudus and can be a real force provided we're not relying on Antonio for intensity or Soler for anything much at all.

Did not see the win coming after the first 45 minute display. Shocking.
Much much better second half although our CM is looking poor at the moment.
Did not even notice that Soler was on the pitch. Rodriguez also looks bang averange. Alavarez and Paqueta wasteful in possession. Letting Ward Prowse go on loan looking a very poor call indeed.
Wan Bissaka was terrific and Fabianski had a solid game.
Thanks for the dodgy pen call. If we could have another 30 of them that would be great.

Refreshing to see someone like Summerville with blistering pace, lifted the crowd massively. Would love to see Bowen, Kudus and Summerville together with Kudus in the 10 or up top. Great to see AWB, Bowen and Summerville tearing them to pieces down the wings. We are a good striker away from a really good attack but centre of midfield and defence is still a big concern. Great to see a controversial pen go our way after so many bad decisions in these games against us. From Vidic not getting sent off last man years back to Nolan last min at OT equaliser offside, Feghouli sending off, Pogba looping the ball off the pitch and back on, plenty more I am sure. It's a bad decision but Surrey based Man Utd fans saying it's the worst in premier league history, do me a favour...

Interesting comment. I am struggling to see how the win against Mancs can be described as phyrric? Possibly if we were safe in top half and got a load of injuries before a major final. But we needed that win badly and so I am struggling to see how it was a win that wasn't worth winning?
Or are you referring to the fact that it may keep Lope in the job longer? I know you're not a fan.

C&P GuardianWan-Bissaka torments United replacementAaron Wan-Bissaka looked as if he had a point to prove against Manchester United. The right-back has had an intriguing role for West Ham this season. Julen Lopetegui has spotted hidden creative tendencies in the defender and given him freedom to attack. Wan-Bissaka has inverted and he was irrepressible against United. Noussair Mazraoui, his replacement at United, could not contain the former Crystal Palace player. Wan-Bissaka kept running clear and delivering crosses, and he should have had an assist when his ball reached Emerson Palmieri, who scuffed wide. If there is a concern, though, it is that Wan-Bissaka’s positioning does make West Ham open. Alejandro Garnacho had a lot of space and did not make enough of it. United were ridiculously frustrating in front of goal. A better team would have punished West Ham during the first half. They got the win, though, and at the end Wan-Bissaka was making a vital lunging tackle to deny Garnacho.

Thought the Chelsea game was more a case the same set up as successfully adopted in the second half. Then it failed because we lacked any kind of intensity, just like the first half today.
Basically we can set up any old way but will get taken to the cleaners by top sides unless we go for it 100%

Watched MOTD2 this morning
Seems first half we used the defensive set up that we used in the debacle vs Chelsea
2 defenders , full backs in the other half tucked in & Alvarez chasing around Fernandes
Without domination in midfield that team is a suicide note from the manager
2nd half Alvarez dropped back between the centre halves stepping forward where possible. AWB & Emerson more like wing backs
Much much better but WHY that 1st half set up which should have conceded at least 3 and was so vulnerable to a straight ball through the middle or a release to an unmarked Garnacho?

First half was idiotic, chaotic and shambolic. For me, regardless of the win, that first half alone does not do anything to build my confidence in Lope.
As we see, second half much better. Looked more assured, more balanced and played well. Albeit we were helped by a hapless Man Utd team that look similar to ours in their confusion and apparent lack of desire for their managers methods.
Negatives:
Lope still not sure what our best side is.
CB's and FB's are still too disconnected
No pace or legs in midfield
We are too easy to play through
Positives:
3 points
Beat Utd
Good to see Lope celebrating
Could be the win that ignites us
Summerville played superbly when brought on and should start next game

Couple of similar observations to others having watched the highlights again.
Antonio is too old to be any more than an impact sub. Cannot be starting games Imo. Also believe he is best deployed wide his best position before Moyes decided he was a centre forward.
Soler a number 10, a creative etc. While I have yet to see anything he offers, would like to see him tried in the Paqueta role and Paqueta as a no 6 deeper where he had his best spell at Lyon.
The high line and wing backs ( Emerson and AWB in particular were like attacking midfielders or additional wingers most of the game ) is not going to work yet with the midfield personnel Lop has at his disposal. Its very high risk and will continue to see us offer up gilt edged chances to most teams in the Premiership. Recruitment is the only way that get fixed unless the tactics / sysyem Lop adipts is changed. But I cannot see him doing that. So I fully expect us to continue shipping 2 on average per game.
But for now lets just enjoy beating the entitled Mancs with the added benefit of knowing we didnt really deserve to based on our performance over 90 mins

Fair play to the boys for sticking at it to get a result, but we were aided by United's seeming inability to hit the target, even a couple of times an open unguarded goal.
It's about time our luck changed - on another day it would've been easy to lose this game 4-1 or 5-1...
The penalty was a toss of a coin really, but having said that it was well despatched by Jarrod, and we could have had another right at the end but for some nimble keeping by Onana.
We absolutely needed those points - our position down there was starting to ring alarm bells all over the show.

Yep, it's all very well having the old West Ham back, but as you say that ain't going to work in that bowl. Not much to look forward to really is there, winning the FA Cup is borderline impossible.
I thought Soucek looked like Zidane compared to carthorses Rodney and the tart. Just seem some highlights where Rodney is hacking at clearances like he's over Hackney Marshes.
Ok here thanks Mons, fella.

Who or what the fuck is Soler?? He has the look that playing football is a distraction to him from looking after his hair and trimming his beard. Send him back to Paris, where the bender fits in more. ZERO chance Irving or Orford could do any worse.
