Sullivan has consistently demonstrated he carries weight on the board beyond his minority share - why? I’m not going to speculate but I would suggest trying to freeze him out is a high-risk strategy liable to lead to a stalemate just when we need decisive action. He needs to believe he’s a great visionary ready to act decisively and be given the credit for doing so. After all, if all he wants is an ego massage, Sullivan can have it if he agrees to spend and get rid for someone like Potter or the German Slav.

sullivan acts with a certainty that the gold family shares will always vote en bloc with him, which seems odd to me. have it on good authority that outside of business they weren't exactly mates so i can't imagine his daughter or her ST holding husband have any reason to swear fealty unless there's something legal written into them

I think he'd probably already made up his mind that he was going after Chelsea long before we got relegated. We were relegated in May 2003, and he completed his takeover of Chelsea in June - just a month later. These things take months to negotiate, so he'd have made up his mind long beforehand. We were already struggling, of course, so maybe that played a part. Who knows? He probably weighed up a few clubs. The same team that told me he sniffed around us also said his advisers looked briefly at Q.P.R and Fulham. Imagine that lot becoming a global force?!

Sounds like Abramovic just wanted a big London club. But Chelsea seemed to be his first choice.

Speaking of ownership, the other thing I picked up last summer was that, allegedly, Abramovic briefly looked at West Ham before he bought Chelsea.

Again, no idea how serious it was - others have said Chelsea was always his target. But, if true, there was a sliding doors moment. That would have been a rollercoaster.

Yeah, Sullivan owns 38.8% of shares in the club. Making him the biggest shareholder, rather than the outright owner.

Kretinsky and his business partner, Pavel Horsky, own 27% between them.

The Gold family own 25.1% via what is now a trust.

That weird Yank, Tripp Smith, owns around 8%.

Other investors own 1.1%.

Basically, our ownership structure is more complex than most. Making a takeover a little more difficult, but not impossible. If you nabbed Kretinsky's and the Gold family shares, you'd probably have effective control of the club.

Some legal insiders told me a while back that the Saudi's sniffed around West Ham before buying Newcastle. Prestige and landmarks are always a big thing with them, and they liked the idea of owning a London-based side playing in the "Olympic" stadium. But it never got off the ground - not sure how far it got, tbh.

Sullivan only owns about 39% iirc. So he isn't the owner, just the biggest shareholder.

Sullivan can be outvoted but it needs most of the board to go against him now that he cannot rely on the Gold family since David Gold's death.

As an example, I heard from a friend of a friend with supposed boardroom connections, that Sullivan had to agree to take a backward step for the appointment of Steidten. It was supposedly done on the basis that Sullivan had done a great job but, the club needed to be less reliant on him now that he was 75.

Everything he does is centred around his optics (or money). I suspect if the fans and his media chums started to ask the difficult questions, he'd find a reason to want out. 

Alledged investigations like the one Wils posted below, if it comes to fruition, could well do the trick too.

If the club was up for sale at a reasonable price, there would be no shortage of interested parties.

Folk such as Sullivan tend to have developed a REALLY thick skin over years of wrangling deals in very hostile environments. Chants and even coins thrown will barely register. People I have known similar to this only really take notice when the income stream from their business dries up.

They are well aware that supporters of football clubs, however vocal and fierce their anger will keep sending them their money until hell freezes over.

I wouldn't be surprised either. Just one of the reasons there should be (IMO) a sustained campaign to rid ourselves of this little stain on our club.

Driving him to sell up is the best thing that can happen for our club.

Couldn't agree more. Some have tried throwing coins at him but he never got the message.

We should be making noise letting him know at every game. Perhaps like that legendary semi final where the fans kept up "Billy bond's claret and blue army" we should have an anti-Sullivan chant sung with the same intensity at every game until he goes.
