Why I stopped going.
After 300 home and 200 away games the Manny fiasco was enough and the excuse to stop supporting this club
I had a front row seat West Upper 70 seats away from south bank and I wasn't willing to pay £650 for a season ticket with a club that for those prices were just happy for top ten.
With a taste of Europe via inter toto cup I wanted Europe every season so I quietly just left the club and took up train spotting.
Or the long term meds messed me up

Re: Why I stopped going.
Thanks for all the replies.
I atleast expected to be called entitled and f off to Spurs if you want trophies.
Like I said the meds could have messed me up because I can't even watch a full game on tv anymore as I find myself getting bored.
Even when there's a goal players stick their tongues out and do silly celebrations before the game has been won.
Thanks again for your input

Have been to the rented shit bowl twice doubt I'll return, watched the Chelsea game recently on the box and was genuinely saddened with what it has now become atmosphere wise .
the white working class really have taken some shit over the centuries...taking football away from us just typical

Ah, the old 'what the threads about' spin. Sorry, I didn't realise we had to stick strictly on topic these days and couldn't discuss anything else. Noted for other threads, cheers. Didn't mean to upset you, I just find it strange that someone would make a VOW to NEVER go again. All very serious.

But nobody gives a fuck if you don't go again do they, just seems like you are taking yourself and it all too seriously. At the end of the day the main reason to go is a day out and to see people etc, no?

I’m sure I’ll return at some point, just not as a ST holder.
I'm quite sure the vast majority don't see football as a priority mate. I understand ditching your ST as that's a commitment, but always found just turning it off like a tap and to completely stop going after so many years is a bit strange, like you're trying too hard.
Anyway, my first game at the bowel next month

Fair point mate
As you say, I'm sure there are plenty of others who feel the same as you.
Perhaps as I grew older, I just became a bit more jaded with it all with the catalyst being the stadium move.

A couple of points:
First for me and I suspect for many it is more than "just" a game of football. Don't ask me to explain exactly what it is. In many respects, it is quite irrational why I go but go I do. I always have since 1956 at least. Of course. during that time there have been times when the frequency has been greater or lesser. As a kid every week (including reserve games) and some away games. As a young man that frequency lessened as I was playing myself and what with training a couple of times a week I would take in games as and when. Paying on the night was easy enough. As ticketing increased my attendance lessened still further but I would always manage a game or two each season home or away. As Ghost says life priorities also dictate what we can and can't manage. I have for the last 13 years since just before fully retiring and going to over to mid-week golf (subsequently no golf) had a season ticket so it is back to regular attendance - though not away games (my good lady's health prevents my prolonged absence from home). I guess I will continue with this until physically can't make it. But maybe not even then, I have a picture of carrying my then-young grandson on my shoulders at the last game at the Boleyn. The other week I said to my now 15-year-old grandson who is six foot plus and thirteen stone that I couldn't manage that now! He said don't worry Grandad I'll carry you to games, I might just have to take up his offer.

Realised that that old cսnt Gold was lying through his veneers when giving the BBC interview claiming that no-one would be further from the pitch at the LS than they currently were at the old girl.
Rightly or wrongly, decision made. 10th May 2016 was the last game I (along with the majority of the blokes I attended with, bar a couple who jacked it in a couple of years after the move) went to.
Do I miss it? Yeah, occasionally.
However it's the 'occasionally' that makes me glad I didn't renew my ST.

Re: Why I stopped going.
Sounds like you're desperate for that to be the case. Wonder why that is, deflection, maybe?
Why would I need to worry about the Baht rate when both my pension and annuity are paid in pounds Sterling into a UK bank account?
*Hands joyo a box of straws*.
Enough there for even you to grasp at and not run out. Fill your boots. You can probably also fill the boots of that tramp with whom you share your squat in a dilapidated and abandoned Upminster lock-up.

Re: Why I stopped going.
Oxbore why don't you just admit you don't go because you live in a mud hut in the poverty stricken village near the Cambodian border, but when your back here in Blighty you basically can't afford to go because the exchange rate for the Baht is so shit!

Re: Why I stopped going.
Based down in Sussex but used to go quite a bit with the old man until he passed 24 odd years ago. Continued to drive up several times a season but usually evening games as I played at weekends. When the hips gave out 12 or so years ago I went to a few more weekend games until Upton Park closed down but used the train more after my car got broken into in one of the side streets near the ground. If I remember correctly more no parking zones were in place by then anyway. Went to the London Stadium once with some mates although we stupidly drove up and were lucky to find parking. Was early on in the move but to be honest it wasn't the same and I haven't been since. Just can't be arsed with the travelling to be honest, admire those who go to every game and credit to those who always go home and away.

Work & my career. Simple as that.
Think I finally stopped going in about 1981 when I gave my season ticket to my younger brother. He was a Man U fan so let it lapse after that.
My job moved to out by Edgware and I followed it a little later, buying a house and living in Radlett.
Work quickly became a 7-days-a-week task and I needed to seem keen to gain promotion, so, 7-days-a-week it was. The huge wads of (overtime) cash helped, too.
And all because...a bunch of cunts in the City wanted to phone the New York Stock Exchange every afternoon and trade pork bellies & Florida orange juice.
Michael. That is one of the most boring stories ever told and nobody fucking cares.
Why do you lack that self awareness? What's wrong with you? Is there a name for this problem?
Jesus fuck.
