No, the obvious choice was to buy new players In Jan (and yes I’d take Mctominay over any of the shit we have in the middle right now) with a focus on qualifying for Europe. Moyes did well for us overall but like so many managers seemed to run out of ideas in the league in the last 2 seasons. 

He would likely be better than Loppy though Id agree with that but its a low bar and a moot point because he would wanted a different set of players recruited and likely doubled down on his tactics. It was simply that his Moyesball, low block tactics were acceotable while we were flying high for 18 - 20 months in the league but once the results slipped and we started then shupping goals for fun ( as we still are admittedly) it was time to move on.

I always like to be open minded to a well reasoned case but Im struggling to work out the rationale of it being the Jan window that caused us to collapse after Xmas last season?

There were plenty, myself included, that wanted a change well before that. If you take it as a given that we’re not finishing in the top two then we only really want to be entertained and have a go at a decent finishing position.

We’ve won a European trophy every 20 years (admittedly it is always the worst one) and silverware is a great accolade if you can’t win the league but the fact that Lopetegui has neither improved nor worsened our fortunes doesn’t make it a wrong decision to make a change - at the very least, it’s a better match to watch these days, we’re no worse and the fact remains that nobody wanted this particular man to relive Moyes but I’m still glad we made that change even for him.

Given that results are exactly the same but it’s a bit more exciting seeing us lose under this guy than seeing us lose under the last guy, I have no idea why you get so upset about this.

When exactly did Sullivan ‘give us what we wanted’?

Most of us wanted Moyes sacked and he kept refusing to do it, so we had to endure the painful football for a long time after we had grown sick of it. 

I don’t think a single person ever said they had Lopetegui top of their list when Moyes’ contract finally ran out, yet we all had our first choice managers in mind. Mine was Amorim.

Sullivan picked the only name in the public running who literally nobody said they wanted.

So whilst you delight in telling us it’s our fault, my response is that no it isn’t, you have your own agenda and at no point has Sullivan given us what we wanted.
